CJI DY Chandrachud Launches FASTER 2.0 Portal for Swift Implementation of Court Orders

Keeping up with the technology adoption to streamline the justice delivery system, the Chief Justice of India (CJI) D. Y. Chandrachud launched the 'FASTER 2.0' portal.
The new portal is designed to promptly inform jail authorities, trial courts, and High Courts about court orders for the release of prisoners. The new digital facility looks to plug the delay in the present system, which currently is much time taking as this is based on physical orders copies that are to be officially received via 'formal' government channels before the jail authorities.
The 'FASTER 2.0' portal is now live and facilitates instant communication to the concerned authorities, enhancing the efficiency of the justice system. In addition to the 'FASTER 2.0' initiative, CJI Chandrachud also unveiled a Hindi version of the e-SCR portal. This portal allows access to Supreme Court judgments in Hindi, making legal information more accessible and inclusive.

Kerala Senior Government Pleader P. G. Manu Resigns

A senior government prosecutor of the Kerala high court tendered his resignation after being directed to do so by the office of the Attorney General following charges of rape against him.
The action was taken against P. G. Manu, the government pleader, after the Chottanikkara police in Ernakulam district booked him on charges of raping a 25-year-old woman.
The accused was booked under sections 376 (rape), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the IT act.

CJI Chandrachud Welcomes Judges from Overseas To Supreme Court

Judges from different countries joined the Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice of India D. Y. Chandrachud.
Judges from Ivory Coast, South Sudan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Cameroon, Botswana and Ghana, were present at the top court and attended court proceedings.
The judges from the offices of justice overseas were in the national capital and attended the first regional conference on Access to Legal Aid.
The National Legal Services Authority, India (NALSA), together with the International Legal Foundation (ILF), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), hosted the first regional conference on Access to Legal Aid in Delhi.
The conference brought together Chief Justices, Ministers of Justice, legal aid officers, policymakers, and civil society experts from 70 Africa-Asia-Pacific countries of the Global South and discussed the challenges and opportunities in ensuring access to quality legal aid services for the poor and vulnerable.

Plea in Kerala HC Seeks Equitable Representation of Backward Community in Appointment of High Cou...

A plea was moved in the Kerala High Court by a Scientist retired from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), seeking equitable representation of backward classes such as Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Latin Catholics, etc. in the appointment of High Court Judges in the State.
Dr. M.K. Mukundan, who himself belongs to a backward community alleged that the principles of Social Justice as envisaged in Articles 38, 46, and 335 of the Constitution were not being adhered to in the appointment of Judges to the High Court of Kerala.

Senior advocate Shyam Divan took over as the President of LAWASIA from Melissa K. Pang in a ceremony held as part of the 36th LAWASIA conference.
Shyam Divan practices as a senior advocate at the Supreme Court of India. His areas of practice cover constitutional law, and most branches of civil litigation including banking, securities law, arbitration, administrative law, and environmental law.

The 36th LAWASIA Conference Held in Bengaluru

The 36th edition of the LAWASIA conference was held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Bengaluru.
The event featured speakers from around forty jurisdictions in the Asia-Pacific region who deliberated on the theme 'Everything, Everywhere, All at Once: Lawyering in the Digital Age'.
President of LAWASIA Melissa K. Pang and President of the Bar Association of India Prashant Kumar, along with Chief Minister of Karnataka Siddaramaiah, rendered welcome speeches as part of the inaugural session.

Bar Council of Delhi Introduces online Verification of Lawyers' Certificate of Practice

The Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) implemented a digital verification form aimed at enhancing the efficiency of verifying lawyers' certificates of practice through online channels.
According to a recent notification from the BCD, advocates registered from January 1, 1990, onwards must complete the digital verification form, known as FORM-A, as mandated. The notice further specifies that advocates who enrolled before January 1, 1990, are exempt from filling out Form-A and are instead required to complete a declaration form, as Form-A does not apply to them.

Centre Appoints Somasekhar Sundaresan as Bombay High Court Judge 10 Months after Collegium Reiter...

The Union government cleared the appointment of advocate Somasekhar Sundaresan as an additional judge of the Bombay High Court, more than 10 months after the Supreme Court reiterated its recommendation on his name.
The Centre had earlier returned his name on the ground that he has aired his views on social media on several matters, including those pending before courts.
