International Day of Banks

International Day of Banks is observed every year on December 4. The day draws attention to the key functions which the banking system performs for the sustainable development of the countries and the globe as a whole.
On December 19, 2019, the UN General Assembly adopted resolution 74/245, which designated December 4 as the International Day of Banks in recognition of the significant potential of multilateral development banks and other international development banks in financing sustainable development and providing know-how; and also in recognition of the vital role of the banking systems in Member States in contributing to the improvement of the standard of living.
The theme for International Day of Banks 2024 is 'Empowering Sustainable Development through Finance.' This theme focuses on the role of financial institutions in supporting the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It aims to eradicate poverty, tackle climate change and reduce inequality.

Indian Navy Day

Indian Navy Day, observed annually on December 4, commemorates the valour and commitment of India's naval forces. The day commemorates the success of Operation Trident, a naval operation during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War that highlighted the might and precision of the Indian Navy.
In 2024, the Navy Day celebrations took place in Puri, Odisha, with President Droupadi Murmu as the chief guest. Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, the Chief of Naval Staff, hosted the event. The ceremony featured a grand display of the Indian Navy's technological advancements and operational capabilities, reaffirming its critical role in safeguarding India's maritime borders.
Each year, the Navy selects a theme to highlight its priorities. The 2024 theme is 'Strength and Power through Innovation and Indigenisation.'

International Day of Persons with Disabilities

International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed annually on December 3.
Established in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities aims to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development. Over the years, it has evolved into a global observance that emphasises the importance of inclusivity, equality, and accessibility.
The theme for International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2024 is 'Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future.'

World Computer Literacy Day

World Computer Literacy Day is observed annually on December 2 to promote digital literacy and bridge the gap in access to technology. Initiated in 2001 by the National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT), an Indian organisation, this day emphasises the importance of computers in modern life and encourages digital learning, especially for women and children.
World Computer Literacy Day was launched in 2001 by the National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT) to celebrate its 20th anniversary. The Company was founded in 1981 by Rajendra Singh Pawar and Vijay K. Thadani.

International Day for the Abolition of Slavery

The International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, observed annually on December 2, serves as a global call to action to combat modern forms of slavery. This day emphasises the eradication of human trafficking, forced labour, and other contemporary forms of exploitation while promoting the fundamental rights and dignity of individuals.
The United Nations General Assembly established this day to mark the adoption of the Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others on December 2, 1949. This landmark resolution aimed to address human trafficking and exploitation globally.

National Pollution Control Day

Every year, India observes National Pollution Control Day on December 2 to remember those who lost their lives in the Bhopal Gas Tragedy. This day is observed to make people aware of pollution-related issues and how it affects our daily lives.
The Bhopal Gas Tragedy was a chemical leak from a pesticide plant in Madhya Pradesh's capital, Bhopal. The horrific incident occurred on December 2, 1984, which turned the city into a gas chamber and killed around 15,000 to 20,000 people immediately after the toxic methyl isocyanate (MIC) gas leaked and spread in the atmosphere.
The theme for National Pollution Day 2024 is 'Clean Air, Green Earth: A Step Towards Sustainable Living.'

Border Security Force Raising Day

The 60th Raising Day of the Border Security Force was celebrated on December 1 at the BSF Meghalaya Frontier Headquarters where a grand 'Barakhana' was organised bringing together personnel from all units under the Frontier.
The event was marked by great enthusiasm and fervour.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the Border Security Force on their Raising Day. He lauded the BSF for standing as a critical line of defence, embodying courage, dedication and exceptional service.

World AIDS Day

World AIDS Day is a globally commemorated healthcare event observed every year on the 1st of December for the past 33 years (since 1988). On this day, various awareness campaigns and activities that promote the disease awareness are conducted by several organisations across the world, unite to show solidarity for people living with HIV (human immunodeficiency virus), reminisced those who have died from an AIDS-related disease, and rally against the spread of the virus.
The theme for World AIDS Day 2024 is 'Take the Rights Path.' This theme emphasizes the importance of upholding human rights to combat the HIV/AIDS epidemic effectively.

International Jaguar Day

International Jaguar Day, observed on November 29 every year globally, brings attention to the myriad conservation efforts led by governments, organisations and individuals.
In 2018, International Jaguar Day was conceived by Panthera, the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF). The date, November 29, was chosen to coincide with the birthday of Liso, a jaguar rehabilitated by the Belize Zoo, in Central America, after falling victim to a trap. Liso became a symbol of hope and resilience, inspiring the creation of this international day.

Aviation Safety Awareness Week 2024

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) commemorates Aviation Safety Awareness Week (November 25 to 29) annually during the last week of November to reinforce the industry's commitment to ensuring safety in all aspects of aviation.
This initiative emphasises fostering a culture of safety across airports and Air Navigation Services (ANS) in India, aligning with the global mission of making aviation safer and more efficient.

International Day of Solidarity with Palestine People

The United Nations observes the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on or around November 29 each year (in 2024 on November 29).
On November 29, 1947, the UN General Assembly adopted the resolution on the partition of Palestine (resolution 181 (II)). On December 2, 1977, it was recorded that the assembly called for the annual observance of November 29 as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People (A/RES/32/40 B).
