India Mark the Start of 100th Birth Anniversary Festivities of Bharat Ratna Awardee, Bhupen Hazarika

  • India began celebrating the 100th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna awardee Bhupen Hazarika, the legendary singer, poet, and composer from Assam. Known for his powerful voice and timeless songs on humanity, equality, and cultural unity, Hazarika's work continues to inspire generations. The centenary celebrations aim to honour his immense contributions to music, cinema, and social change, while keeping his legacy alive for future generations.
  • Bhupen Hazarika was born on September 8, 1926, in Assam. He became one of India's most iconic cultural figures through his soulful songs, powerful lyrics, and socially relevant compositions.
  • Hazarika was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to music and culture. He passed away in 2011 at the age of 85.

India's Unemployment Rate Lowest among G20 Nations

  • India's unemployment rate stands at just 2 per cent, the lowest among G20 countries, Union Minister for Labour & Employment Mansukh Mandaviya said, citing the World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs Report 2025.
  • The Minister highlighted that the National Career Service (NCS) portal is now evolving as a one-stop solution for all employment-related services.

Niti Aayog Strategy to Double Pulses Production by 2047

  • In a major step toward agricultural self-reliance, Niti Aayog has released a comprehensive strategy to make India self-sufficient in pulses by 2030 and double its production by 2047.
  • The report outlines a roadmap that integrates technological, ecological, and socio-economic interventions, aiming to transform the pulses sector into a pillar of India's food and nutritional security.
  • Currently producing 26.06 million tonnes (MT) of pulses (as of 2022), India is projected to increase production to 34.45 MT by 2030 and further to 51.57 MT by 2047, marking a potential surplus scenario in the coming decades.

Angikaar 2025 Campaign Launched to Boost PMAY-U 2.0

  • Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal, launched Angikaar 2025, a dedicated outreach and awareness campaign under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0).
  • The initiative was unveiled at a ceremony in New Delhi, aiming to bridge the last-mile gap in urban housing delivery and boost awareness and community participation in housing schemes.

India's First Port-Based Green Hydrogen Pilot Project Launched at VOC Port

  • Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated India's first port-based Green Hydrogen Pilot Project at V.O. Chidambaranar (VOC) Port in Tamil Nadu on Friday, marking a milestone in the country's clean energy transition.
  • The facility, set up at a cost of Rs. 3.87 crore, has a capacity of 10 Nm³ per hour and will generate green hydrogen to power streetlights and an electric vehicle charging station in the port colony. With this, VOC Port has become the first port in the country to produce green hydrogen.

  • The prime Ministers of India and Singapore agreed to adopt a forward-looking and substantive roadmap aimed at setting the vision and direction for the next phase of bilateral relations — and deepen cooperation in eight key areas: economy, skills development, digitalisation, sustainability, connectivity, healthcare and medicine, people-to-people and cultural exchanges; and, defence and security.

Piyush Goyal Assumes Charge as Mines Secretary

  • In a key administrative appointment, Piyush Goyal, a 1994-batch IAS officer of the Nagaland cadre, has officially assumed charge as the Secretary of the Ministry of Mines as of September 2025. His appointment follows the transfer of Shri V.L. Kantha Rao, who is now serving as Secretary in the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation.

PM Modi Launched Rajya Jeevika Nidhi Saakh Sahkari Sangh Limited

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the Bihar Rajya Jeevika Nidhi Saakh Sahkari Sangh Limited, a landmark initiative aimed at providing affordable, digitally enabled credit access to rural women across Bihar. With an initial capital transfer of Rs. 105 crore, this new cooperative represents a major boost to the state's self-help group ecosystem under the Jeevika program.
  • The Jeevika Nidhi is a state-level cooperative society established to offer financial assistance at low-interest rates to members of cluster-level federations registered under the Jeevika initiative. It provides a much-needed alternative to microfinance institutions that often charge high interest rates ranging between 18% to 24%.
  • The initiative is jointly funded by the Bihar government and the Centre.

Nepal, Bhutan Citizens Not Required To Carry Passport, Visa to Enter India

  • The citizens of Nepal and Bhutan as well as Indians entering India by land or air from the two neighbouring countries will not be required to furnish a passport or visa, as earlier.
  • The members of the naval, military or air forces of India entering or exiting India on duty and the family members of any such person, when accompanying such a person on a government transport, will also not be required to carry a passport or visa, according to an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) following the enforcement of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025.

India Names Deepak Mittal as Next Ambassador to UAE

  • The Ministry of External Affairs appointed Deepak Mittal as India's next Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates. A 1998-batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service, Mittal has held key positions, including two stints in the Prime Minister's Office under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also served as India's Ambassador to Qatar between 2020 and 2022. Mittal played a pivotal role in establishing India's first formal diplomatic contact with the Taliban and in defending Indian nationals at international forums. He will succeed Sunjay Sudhir, the current Ambassador to the UAE, who is set to retire in September.
