Education Minister Launches IGNOU MBA Study Materials in Odia

  • The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) released MBA study materials in Odia language. The Union Minister of Education, Darmendra Pradhan launched the study materials in regional language in an event.
  • Odisha government's Suryabanshi Suraj, Minister of Higher Education, Odia Language, Literature and Culture, Sports and Youth Services, and Sampad Chandra Swain, minister of State for Skill Development, Technical Education and Industries, were also present during the launch event.

Odisha Fixes Class 1 Enrolment Age in Schools at 6-plus Years from 2025-26 Academic Session

  • The Odisha government fixed the age of enrolment to Class-1 at 6-plus years as on September 1 from the 2025-26 academic session.
  • From the new academic year, all primary schools will open an additional pre-school class called 'Sishu Vatika'.
  • Children in the age group of 5-6 years can take admission in the pre-school.
  • The revision in the state curriculum framework will be initiated in a phased manner from the 2025-26 session, with the National Curriculum Framework Foundational Stage (NCF FS), being adopted in the first phase.

ICSI Elects Dhananjay Shukla as President for 2025

  • The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) appointed Dhananjay Shukla as the president and Pawan G. Chandak as the vice president for this year (2025).
  • Shukla is a commerce and law graduate. He is a fellow of ICSI and is a practising company secretary in Gurugram. As mentioned in the press release, Shukla has also expertise in the areas of corporate law, securities law and taxation.
  • Dhananjay has also served as the vice president of the ICSI for the year 2024. With an experience of more than 20 years, he has helped various start-up ventures to be set up in India by foreign promoters.

IIM-Bangalore Introduces its First Hindi MOOC Course on ESG and Sustainability in Business

  • IIM Bangalore introduced its first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), titled 'From Theory to Practice: Implementing ESG and Sustainability in Business,' hosted on Swayam, a Government of India initiative designed to provide free, high-quality education across diverse subjects. The course will be imparted in Hindi language.
  • This 12-week programme begins on January 24 and is for MBA and BBA students, working professionals, and executives who want to deepen their understanding of sustainable growth and holistic value creation.
  • Swayam courses include video lectures, e-texts, self-assessments, and discussion forums. While the course is free for all, students can enrol for the examination by paying a nominal fee and obtaining a certificate.

Maharashtra Govt. Launches ATAL Portal for Professional CET Cell Courses & Career Guidance

  • Maharashtra's Higher and Technical Education Department introduced CET – ATAL (Assessment, Tests and Learning) to help candidates seeking admission to various professional courses in the state. The portal will provide mock tests and psychometric tests to students to help them opt for the right career and prepare for success in the entrance tests.
  • There is no age bar for appearing or registering for the tests. Anyone who intends for self-improvement ambitions is eligible to apply. As per the official website, the selection process includes a committee that can either accept or reject the application of the student.

Duolingo English Test Introduces DETermined Scholarship for Indian Women

  • The Duolingo English Test (DET) launched the DETermined scholarship for Indian women in STEM. The initiative is introduced in collaboration with the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) as the knowledge partner.
  • It is designed to support Indian women by offering a one-time grant of USD 30,000 to cover tuition fees for a master's degree in STEM at a US university that accepts the DET for admissions for the academic year 2026–2027.

CBSE Organises Drug and Substance Abuse Awareness Workshop

  • The Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE, in collaboration with DAV Public School, Uppal's Southend, Sector-49, Gurugram, held an impactful workshop on Drug and Substance Abuse Awareness.
  • The workshop brought together over 150 principals from CBSE schools across Delhi NCR, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Rajasthan. This workshop provided a vital platform to address the rising concern about substance abuse among youth, fostering awareness and collective action.
  • The workshop was inaugurated by Ajay Kumar (IAS), Deputy Commissioner of Gurugram.

GSEB Gujarat Adopts Board Exam Format for Classes 9 and 11

  • The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSEB) revised the Class 9 and Class 11 exam patterns. The revised format mirrors the GSEB Class 10 and Class 12 board 2025 exams. The question paper structure will now comprise 70 per cent descriptive and 30 per cent objective questions.
  • The change in the GSEB 2025 Class 9 and Class 11 paper pattern seeks to standardise exam patterns across classes and ensure a smoother transition for students progressing to Class 10 and 12 board exams.
