Veteran Tamil Actor-Comedian Bindu Ghosh Passes Away

  • The Tamil film industry lost one of its most beloved comedians, Bindu Ghosh, who passed away at the age of 76 in Chennai. The veteran actress, known for her exceptional comic timing and vibrant on-screen presence, had been battling a prolonged illness.
  • Born as Vimala, Bindu Ghosh started her journey in the Tamil film industry at a very young age. She made her debut as a child artist in the 1960 classic Kalathur Kannamma, where she acted alongside a six-year-old Kamal Haasan, who was also making his debut in the film industry.
  • Her transition to adult roles came much later, with her first credited performance in 1982's Kozhi Koovuthu, a film directed by Gangai Amaran in his debut. This marked the beginning of a remarkable career that spanned over four decades.

Indian Athlete Vispy Kharadi Sets Guinness World Record for Hercules Pillar Hold

  • Indian athlete Vispy Kharadi etched his name in the Guinness World Records by achieving the longest Hercules pillar hold. The record-breaking feat took place in Surat, Gujarat, where Kharadi demonstrated his exceptional strength by holding the massive pillars for an astonishing 2 minutes and 10.75 seconds.
  • The pillars, inspired by Greek architecture, stood at 123 inches in height and had a diameter of 20.5 inches. Weighing 166.7 kg and 168.9 kg, they pushed the limits of human endurance and raw power. The Guinness World Records officially recognised and documented his incredible achievement.

Former India Cricketer Syed Abid Ali Passes Away

  • Former India cricketer Syed Abid Ali passed away in the United States at the age of 83.
  • He was renowned for hitting the winning runs in the famous 1971 Oval Test. Abid Ali represented in 29 Tests and five ODIs from 1967 to 1975. Labelled as a 'lion-hearted cricketer' by Sunil Gavaskar he was a bowling all-rounder, who took 47 Test wickets but played a crucial role in the middle-order with the bat, whether in first-class cricket or in the handful of the ODIs he played.

  • Balakrishna Prasad dedicated his life to the world of Carnatic, folk, and classical music. He served as an Asthana Vidwan at TTD from 1978 to 2006, a position that brought him national recognition. His extraordinary ability to compose and perform devotional music made him a revered figure among devotees of Lord Venkateswara.
