Ajay Bhatnagar Appointed Special Director in CBI

  • Senior IPS officer Ajay Bhatnagar was appointed as Special Director in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), according to a Personnel Ministry order.
  • Bhatnagar, a 1989 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Jharkhand cadre, was Additional Director in the federal probe agency.
  • He has been appointed to the post till the date of his superannuation on November 20, 2024.
  • Anurag, Joint Director in the CBI, will now be Additional Director in the agency.

Army Adjudged Best Organisation in Defence Ministry for Procurement on GeM

  • The Indian Army was adjudged as the best organisation in the Ministry of Defence (MoD) for procurement on Government e-Marketplace (GeM) for the financial year 2022-23.
  • Vice Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General M. V. Suchindra Kumar received the prestigious award on behalf of the Army.
  • Approximately 16,000 buyers (in the context of the Army) are registered on GeM, the officials said, adding that on an average, 60,000-80,000 transactions take place every month. The maximum of up to two lakh transactions took place in March in 2022-23.

President Confers Distinguished Service Awards on Serving, Retired Personnel

  • President Droupadi Murmu conferred Distinguished Service Awards, including 52 Ati Vishisht Seva Medals, on 84 serving and retired personnel of the armed forces and the Indian Coast Guard.
  • The awards were presented during a defence investiture ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
  • Lt Gen ADS Aujla, former commander of the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps responsible for guarding the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kashmir Valley, was awarded the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal (UYSM).
  • The President awarded 52 Ati Vishisht Seva Medals (AVSMs), one Bar to AVSM, three UYSMs and 28 Param Vishisht Seva Medals (PVSMs) to the personnel for distinguished service of exceptional order.

IAF Conducts Exercise Ranvijay with Focus on Integrated Operations

  • The Indian Air Force carried out Exercise Ranvijay in which day and night operations by combat aircraft including Su-30s were carried out as part of integrated wargames to hone the skills of fighter pilots.
  • Exercise Ranvijay was conducted in UB Hills and Central Air Command Area of Responsibility from 16-23 June wherein full spectrum operations by all combat assets by day and night were carried out. The focus was on integrated operations while optimally exploiting electronic warfare capabilities of Indian Air Force.
  • The exercise was carried out from different air bases of the command headquartered in Prayagraj.

ASEAN Planning First Joint Military Drill Amid Regional Tensions with China

  • The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is planning its first joint military drill amid regional strain with China.
  • According to the Indonesian military, the drill will be conducted in Indonesia's South Natuna Sea.
  • During the 20th ASEAN Chief of Defence Forces Meeting in Bali, organized on June 7, ten ASEAN military chiefs had agreed to conduct routine joint training and coordinated patrols in waters of the South China Sea. There will be the army, naval and special forces involved from September 18 to September 25, despite scepticism from member state Cambodia.
  • The ASEAN exercise named Solidarity, will be held as China is asserting its claim to areas of the South China Sea that are also claimed by the ASEAN member states; Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei and the Philippines. This year (2023), Indonesia holds the rotating chair of the regional bloc.

CRPF Signs Pact with Rashtriya Raksha University, Gujarat

  • The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) signed an agreement with Gujarat based Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) for a specialised education, research, training and innovation ecosystem for the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). CRPF DG Sujoy Lal Thaosen and Vice Chancellor Professor Bimal N. Patel were present during the signing of agreement during which the latter assured the CRPF of all possible cooperation and laid particular emphasis on Suraksha Karmayogi mission of the University.
  • Patel highlighted that more than 12,000 persons from India and 48 foreign nations have benefitted under more than 150 training programmes offered by the University. Under the MoU, CRPF personnel will be able to benefit from diploma and degree programs, get accreditation and recognition of training leading towards diploma and degree, exchange of resource persons, conduct research at RRU or CRPF facilities, among others.

India-United States Defence Acceleration Ecosystem (INDUS X) Launched

  • The India-United States Defence Acceleration Ecosystem (INDUS X) was officially launched at an event held in Washington DC. The initiative aims to foster collaboration and innovation between Indian and US defence start-ups, promoting technological advancements in the sector.
  • Co-organised by Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) under the Ministry of Defence and the US Department of Defence (DoD), the two-day INDUS X event brought together government representatives, defence industry leaders, think tanks, investors, and start-ups from both countries.
  • The event featured a joint showcasing of innovative technologies by 15 Indian start-ups and 10 US start-ups, spanning multiple domains such as maritime, AI, autonomous systems, and space.
