Indian Writer Amitav Ghosh Awarded Prestigious Erasmus Prize 2024

  • The Praemium Erasmianum Foundation awarded the Erasmus Prize 2024 to the Indian writer Amitav Ghosh. He received this prestigious honour for his passionate contribution to the theme 'imagining the unthinkable', in which he explores the unprecedented global crisis of climate change through his literary works.
  • Born in Kolkata in 1956, Ghosh has produced a vast body of work, including historical novels and journalistic essays that carry the reader across continents and oceans. His works are grounded in thorough archival research and transcend boundaries and time periods with literary eloquence.
  • The Erasmus Prize is an annual prize awarded by the board of the Praemium Erasmianum Foundation to individuals or institutions that have made exceptional contributions to culture, society, or social science in Europe and the rest of the world.

Riken Yamamoto Wins 2024 Pritzker Architecture Prize

  • Riken Yamamoto, a Japanese architect from Yokohama, was named the winner of the 2024 Pritzker Architecture Prize, widely regarded as the highest honour in the field of architecture.
  • Yamamoto's work emphasises the importance of community and shared spaces. He believes in creating architectural spaces that foster harmony and societal relationships while respecting individual freedom.
  • The Pritzker Architecture Prize is an annual award founded in 1979 by Jay A. Pritzker and his wife, Cindy. It honours a living architect, whose built work demonstrates talent, vision, and commitment, contributing significantly to humanity and the built environment.

President's Standard and Colours Presentation to Indian Air Force Units

  • In March 2024, the Hon'ble President of India, the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces, Smt Droupadi Murmu, awarded the prestigious President's Standard to 45 Squadron and 221 Squadron, and the President's Colours to 11 Base Repair Depot (BRD) and 509 Signal Unit (SU) of the Indian Air Force (IAF). 
  • The award of the President's Standard and Colours is the highest honour that can be bestowed upon any military unit. This is the first time in the history of the IAF that four units have been awarded the President's Standard and Colours together in a single ceremony.

Oppenheimer Wins Big at Oscars 2024

  • Oppenheimer won big at the Oscars 2024 today. Christopher Nolan's film dominated Hollywood's biggest night by bagging seven awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Score, Best Cinematography, and Best Film Editing. Meanwhile, Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr won the Academy Award for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor categories for their roles in the film. Yatin Bhaskar Duggal Wins First Prize in National Youth Parliament Festival 2024

  • Yatin Bhaskar Duggal from Haryana won the first prize in the National Youth Parliament Festival, 2024, while Vaishna Pitchai from Tamil Nadu won the second prize and Kanishka Sharma from Rajasthan the third prize.
