  • Denis Law, the iconic Scottish footballer renowned for his prolific goal-scoring and charismatic presence, passed away at the age of 84. Affectionately dubbed "The King" and "The Lawman," Law's illustrious career left an indelible mark on both Manchester United and the Scotland national team.
  • He began his professional career with Huddersfield Town in 1956, where his talent quickly became evident. In 1960, he moved to Manchester City for a British record transfer fee of £55,000, showcasing his goal-scoring prowess. Eminent playback Singer P. Jayachandran Passes Away

  • Renowned playback singer P. Jayachandran, affectionately called 'Bhava Gayakan' for his soulful renditions that beautifully expressed emotions such as love, longing, and devotion died. He was 80.
  • The singer recorded over 16,000 songs in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi in a career spanning over five decades.
  • He had won the national award for the best male playback singer in 1986. In 2020, he was conferred with the J C Daniel Award in recognition for his contributions to Malayalam cinema. He had also won state film awards in Kerala five times and two times in Tamil Nadu.

Pandey Appointed Revenue Secretary

  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the appointment of Tuhin Kanta Pandey as the Secretary, Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance.
  • Pandey is currently serving as the Secretary, Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM). 
  • Simultaneously, Arunish Chawla, presently the Secretary, Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, was appointed as the Secretary, DIPAM, succeeding Pandey.

Veteran journalist, Filmmaker, Poet Pritish Nandy Dies

  • Veteran journalist, poet, film producer and former Rajya Sabha MP Pritish Nandy died in Mumbai at the age of 73.
  • Born in Bihar's Bhagalpur in 1951, Nandy pioneered The Illustrated Weekly of India, revitalising its form and content, and hosted the hugely popular The Pritish Nandy Show on Doordarshan, with his 1985 interview of singer Kishore Kumar known for being one of the rare few that opened up the artist.
  • Nandy was also known for his poetry, winning the Padma Shri for his contribution to literature in 1977. Nandy wrote around 40 books of poetry in English and translated poems from Bengali, Urdu and Punjabi into English.
