Eastern Naval Command Chief Reviews Passing Out Parade, Awards 'Wings' to Pilots

Vice Admiral Biswajit Dasgupta, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C), Eastern Naval Command (ENC) reviewed the Passing out Parade for the 100th Helicopter Conversion Course and awarded the coveted 'Golden Wings' to the newly inducted pilots, at INS Rajali at Arakkonam in Tamil Nadu. The seminal event marked the successful completion of training for 16 pilots from the 100th Course conducted at Helicopter Training School (HTS), INAS 561. This included 4 pilots who underwent the first ever Basic Helicopter Conversion Course (BHCC) (Stage 1 training) conducted by the Indian Navy, which earlier was conducted entirely by the IAF.

Indian Army Gets New DGs of Intelligence, Information Warfare and Strategic Planning

In a major reshuffle at the senior level, the Indian Army got its new Directorate heads which includes the new Directorate General (DG) of Military Intelligence (MI). They all took charge in the Army Headquarters, New Delhi.
Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) R. S. Raman assumed the charge of DG MI along with Lt Gen Raju Baijal and Lt Gen Rajeev Puri who joined as the new DGs Strategic Planning and Information Warfare, respectively.
Lt Gen Rakesh Kapoor took charge as the new DCoAS (IS&W) at New Delhi-based Army Headquarters. He was the Commander in Chief of the Jodhpur-based XII Corps. Lt Gen Mohit Malhotra, who was the Additional DG of Public Information, took charge as the XII Corps Commander.

India, France, UAE Conclude Maiden Joint Maritime Exercise in the Gulf of Oman

The first India-France-UAE Maritime Partnership Exercise concluded in the Gulf of Oman. The exercise involved the Indian Navy frigate INS Tarkash, the French Navy ship Surcouf along with Rafale fighter jets, and UAE Navy maritime patrol aircraft.
The two-day exercise involved a wide range of naval operations, including surface warfare, helicopter cross-deck landing operations, advanced air defense exercises, and boarding operations. The exercise also included cross-embarkation of personnel to exchange best practices.
As per the defence ministry, the first India-France-UAE Maritime Partnership Exercise aimed to improve trilateral cooperation between the three navies and develop joint strategies for addressing traditional and non-traditional threats in the maritime environment.

Germany Prepares to Host "Air Defender 2023" NATO's Biggest Ever Air Exercise

Germany is preparing to host the biggest air deployment exercise in NATO's history, a show of force intended to impress allies and potential adversaries such as Russia. The Air Defender 23 exercise to be held from June 12-24, 2023 will see 10,000 participants and 250 aircraft from 25 nations respond to a simulated attack on a NATO member country. The United States alone is sending 2,000 U.S. Air National Guard personnel and about 100 aircraft to take part in the training maneuvers.
Germany's military has warned the huge air force drill will have an impact on people using civil airlines in Europe. While the exercise was planned for several years, Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 has jolted NATO into preparing in earnest for the possibility of an attack on its territory. Sweden, which is hoping to join the alliance, and Japan are also taking part in the exercise.
The exercise will be held across Germany, with some of the training taking place at Ramstein Air Base, which is one of NATO's largest air bases. The exercise will focus on a variety of air defense and air interoperability topics, including: Airspace surveillance and control, Air interdiction, Air combat maneuvering, Air refuelling, Command and control, and Logistics.
Air Defender 2023 is a significant event, and it is a sign of NATO's commitment to the defense of its members. The exercise will help to ensure that NATO is ready to meet any challenge to its security.

DRDO Successfully Flight-tests New Generation Ballistic Missile Agni Prime

A new-generation ballistic missile 'Agni Prime' was successfully flight tested by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha.
During the flight test, all objectives were successfully demonstrated.
This was the first pre-induction night launch conducted by the users after three successful developmental trials of the Agni Prime missile, validating the accuracy and reliability of the system.
A number of Range Instrumentation like Radar, Telemetry and Electro-Optical Tracking Systems were deployed at different locations, including two downrange ships at the terminal point to capture flight data covering the entire trajectory of the vehicle.

Thyssenkrupp, India's Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Sign Submarine MoU

Germany's Thyssenkrupp (TKAG.DE) and India's Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders (MAZG.NS) signed an agreement to participate in a submarine tender by the Indian Navy that has a value of around $5.2 billion.
As part of the planned cooperation, Thyssenkrupp would take care of engineering and design, while Mazagon would be in charge of construction and the delivery of six submarines the Indian Navy has tendered.
Signing of the MoU took place in Mumbai in the presence of German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius, who a day earlier signalled that Thyssenkrupp was likely to bid for the project.
Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems has been seen as a preferred manufacturer for the project. The Kiel-based company is one of two submarine makers globally offering air-independent propulsion, a technology that helps non-nuclear submarines stay underwater longer.
