TIME List of World's Greatest Places of 2023

  • Odisha's Mayurbhanj district and the Union Territory of Ladakh found a place in TIME Magazine's '50 extraordinary destinations to explore' as it unveiled its list of the 'World's Greatest Places of 2023'. It noted that while the travel industry is back in full swing in 2023, there are some notable shifts in how and where we travel. To compile this list of the World's Greatest Places, the magazine solicited nominations of places from its international network of correspondents and contributors, with an eye toward those offering new and exciting experiences.
  • India's Mayurbhanj and Ladakh, were selected for their rare tigers and ancient temples, and adventures and eats, respectively.

Delhi's IGI Airport Best Airport in South Asia

  • Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport was awarded as the best airport in India and South Asia, whereas Singapore's Changi airport was the world's best airport, according to the 2023 World Airport Awards by international air transport rating organisation Skytrax. Doha's Hamad airport, which had bagged the Airport of the Year award for two consecutive years (2021 and 2022), secured the world's second spot this time.
  • Delhi, at the 36th rank, is the only airport from India to have secured a position in the top 50 best airports in the world this year (2023). Meanwhile, Hyderabad Airport won the award as the Best Regional Airport in India and South Asia, and for the Best Airport Staff in India & South Asia. Hyderabad was ranked 65th among the world airports.

Central Railway Achieves 100 % Electrification of Broad Gauge Network

  • The Central Railway achieved 100 per cent electrification of its broad gauge network of 3,825 km, which was resulting in an annual reduction of 5.204 lakh tonnes of carbon footprints.
  • The CSMT-headquartered zonal railway said that the 52-km Ausa Road-Latur Road stretch in Solapur division was the last non-electrified section and its electrification was completed. This move helps in reducing carbon footprints of 5.204 lakh tonnes every year as well as savings of 1670 crore rupees. It will reduce fuel bills and help earn carbon credit.

India Bags Golden and Silver Star At the International 'Golden City Gate Tourism Awards 2023

  • The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, bagged Golden & Silver Star at the International 'Golden City Gate Tourism Awards 2023' in 'TV/Cinema Commercials International and Country International' Category at ITB, Berlin 2023.
  • The awards were received by Arvind Singh, Secretary (Tourism) Government of India at ITB, Berlin.
  • The Golden City Gate Tourism Multi-media Awards are given annually in various categories related to the Tourism and Hospitality sectors. The 'Golden City Gate' is a creative multi-media international competition for countries, cities, regions and hotels. The entries received for the awards are judged by an international jury comprising film and tourism experts. The annual award ceremony takes place at ITB Berlin, the world's leading tourism trade show.
  • The promotional films / television commercials, which received the awards were produced by the Ministry as part of its Post Covid Promotional Global Campaign on India reopening. Ministry of Tourism developed the new Incredible India brand films for welcoming of foreign tourists to the country after the pandemic. These brand films were widely circulated within the domestic and international travel industry for wider usage in for promotional and marketing purposes.

Delhi International Airport among Cleanest in Asia-Pacific

  • Indira Gandhi International Airport New Delhi was ranked among the cleanest airports in Asia-Pacific as a part of Airport Council International (ACI)'s annual service quality award. ACI is a trade association of global airports.
  • The airport service quality award is based on passenger surveys carried out to rate customer satisfaction on the day of travel.
  • The surveys cover over 30 performance indicators across key elements of a passenger's airport experience such as ease of finding your way, check-in, shopping, and dining offerings.
  • While Delhi was ranked among the top airports for cleanliness, none of the Indian airports made it to the winners list in the other new categories.
