Governor Gives Assent to Stricter Anti-conversion Law in Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Gurmit Singh gave his assent to the Freedom of Religion (Amendment) Bill, 2022, making unlawful conversions a cognizable and non-bailable offence punishable with a prison term of up to 10 years.
The bill was passed by the state assembly in November 2022 and the governor gave his assent to the legislation.
With the governor's sanction to the bill it became an act paving the way for stricter punishment to offenders in such cases, they said.
Apart from a maximum imprisonment of up to ten years, persons indulging in forceful and unlawful conversion in Uttarakhand will now be slapped with a fine of at least Rs. 50,000.
"No person shall convert, either directly or otherwise, any other person from one religion to another by use or practice of misrepresentation, force, undue influence, coercion, allurement or by any fraudulent means. No person shall abet, convince or conspire such conversion," the Act said.

Piyush Goyal Tables Jan Vishwas Bill in Lok Sabha for Ease of Doing Business

Commerce and industry Minister Piyush Goyal introduced Jan Vishwas Bill in Lok Sabha, which seeks to decriminalise minor offences by amending 183 provisions in 42 Acts with a view to promote ease of business.
The Bill was later referred to a 31-member joint committee of Parliament for scrutiny. It proposes to amend 183 provisions across 42 Acts administered by 19 ministries. Introducing the Bill, Goyal said that there are many laws in the country, under which punishment provisions are there for minor offences and for that people have to approach courts.

J&K LG Manoj Sinha Announces 3 New Schemes for J&K

Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha announced three New Schemes- Holistic Development of Agriculture & Allied Sectors, Aspirational Towns, and Aspirational Panchayat for J&K Union Territory. These Projects were approved by the Administrative Council, chaired by the Lt Governor.
Speaking on the occasion Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha said, J&K is determined to move forward to touch new heights of success. He said, the projects which have now been approved by the administrative council, have an outlay of Rs. 5013 crore.
Over the next five years, these projects would transform the agriculture economy of J&K putting it on a new trajectory of growth with doubling the output of the sectors and making them sustainable and commercially viable. Lt. Governor said, this will herald a new phase of farmer prosperity and rural livelihood security in J&K.

Assam Government Launches Orunodoi 2.0 Scheme

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the second version of 'Orunodoi', the flagship scheme of the state government aimed at providing financial security to financially disadvantaged families.
Orunodoi' or Arunodoi Scheme is a new scheme of the Government of Assam launched on October 2, 2020. Under 'Orunodoi', monetary benefits have been envisaged for more than 24 lakh poor household in the state. The existing beneficiaries of the Deen Dayal Divyangan Pension Yojana and Indira Miri Widow Pension Scheme have been subsumed under Orunodoi 2.0. Divyangans and transgenders would also be included. Under the 'Orunodoi 2.0' scheme the amount was enhanced from 830/- to Rs. 1250/ Women.

J&K Approves Rehabilitation Policy for Children in Street Situation

The Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Council which met under the chairmanship of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, accorded its approval to the Rehabilitation Policy for Children in Street Situation (CiSS) to safeguard them from different hazards.
As per the canons of the Juvenile Justice Act, Children in Street Situation fall in the category of children in need of care and protection. The Act empowers the government to frame a policy for the rehabilitation of such children in distress.
Earlier the Social Welfare Department through MD, ICPS (now Mission Vatsalya) carried out an exercise for identification of such CiSS and so far 687 such children have been identified.
