Navy Institutes 2 Trophies in Memory of General Rawat

  • To mark the 65th birth anniversary of Gen Bipin Rawat, the first Chief of Defence Staff of the Indian Armed Forces, the Navy instituted two trophies in his memory.
  • The first is the General Bipin Rawat Rolling Trophy for the woman Agniveer trainee standing first in overall order of merit. The trophy is scheduled to be presented by the Chief of the Naval Staff during the passing-out parade of the first batch of the Navy Agniveers on March 28 at the sailors' training centre, INS Chilka.
  • The second is the General Bipin Rawat Rolling Trophy for the 'Most Spirited Officer' undergoing the Naval Higher Command Course at Naval War College, Goa.

Tamil Writer Sivasankari Selected for Saraswati Samman for 2022

  • Tamil writer Sivasankari was selected for Saraswati Samman for the year 2022 for her book Survya Vamsam. It is a book of memoirs in Tamil language and was published in 2019. Saraswati Samman instituted by the K.K. Birla Foundation in 1991 is recognized as the most prestigious and the highest literary award in the country. It carries an award money of Rs. 15 lakh, a citation and a plaque.
  • Sivasankari's literary career spans over five decades. She is the author of 36 novels, 48 novellas, 150 short stories, 15 travelogues, seven collections of essays and three biographies, including one on former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
  • The Saraswati Samman is given every year for an outstanding literary work written in any Indian language by an Indian citizen in the last 10 years preceding the specified Samman year. The recipient is chosen by the Chayan Parishad under the chairmanship of former Supreme Court judge Arjan Kumar Sikri that comprises outstanding scholars and writers of the country.

Journalist Dhanya Rajendran to Receive Chameli Devi Jain Award for 2022

  • Dhanya Rajendran of The News Minute was declared the winner of the Chameli Devi Jain Award for an Outstanding Woman Media person for 2022, the Media Foundation announced.
  • Bengaluru-based Rajendran is the co-founder and editor-in-chief of digital news platform The News Minute.
  • A three-member jury comprising Nirmal Pathak, Editor, PTI Bhasha, columnist Nidhi Razdan, and Harish Damodaran, National Rural Affairs and Agriculture Editor, The Indian Express, agreed that Rajendran's work "showed a blend of meticulous reportage and data reflecting not only individual merit, but the pursuit of committed journalism".

RBI Governor Das Gets the 'Governor of the Year' Award for 2023

  • Reserve Bank Governor Shaktikanta Das awarded the 'Governor of the Year' award for 2023 by the international publication Central Banking for captaining the financial markets through the turbulent periods of the pandemic and the crippling impact of the Ukraine war.
  • Former governor Raghuram Rajan was the first to be conferred the title back in 2015 from the country.
  • The Central Banking Publications is a financial publisher specialising in public policy and financial markets, with an emphasis on central banks, and international financial institutions.

INS Dronacharya to Get President's Colour, Highest Military Unit Honour

  • INS Dronacharya, the Gunnery School of the Indian Navy in Kochi, Kerala, was awarded the prestigious President's Colour by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu.
  • The President's Colour or the Nishan is considered the highest honour that the Supreme Commander, President of India, bestows on a unit for its exceptional service to the Nation.
  • INS Dronacharya is entrusted with the training of officers and sailors of the Navy, Coast Guard and friendly foreign maritime forces on all aspects of gunnery and missile warfare.
  • INS Dronacharya was designated as the Centre for Excellence in Gunnery and Missile Warfare in 2004.
  • The unit is affiliated with the Indian Army School of Artillery in the spirit of jointmanship.

Gyan Chaturvedi Selected for Vyas Samman 2022 for 'Pagalkhana'

  • Noted Hindi writer Gyan Chaturvedi's 2018 satirical novel, 'Pagalkhana', was selected for the 32nd Vyas Samman, 2022.
  • Instituted by the KK Birla Foundation in 1991, the annual Vyas Samman is given to an outstanding Hindi literary work by an Indian citizen published during the last 10 years. It carries an award money of Rs. 4 lakh.
  • After considering the works published during 2012-2021, a selection committee headed by eminent litterateur Prof Ramji Tiwari picked Dr Chaturvedi's Pagalkhana (mental asylum) for the Vyas Samman.
  • Having started his writing career in 1970s, Chaturvedi received India's fourth highest civilian award Padma Shri in 2015. He also won the Madhya Pradesh government's Sharad Joshi Samman for outstanding achievement in the field of satire and essay, besides the Delhi Academy Award and the Indu Sharma International Katha Samman.
