Ministry of Tourism Recognises Pembarthi and Chandlapur as Best Tourism Villages in Telangana

  • In Telangana, Pembarthi in Jangoan district and Chandlapur of Siddipet district were chosen by the Ministry of Tourism as the best tourism villages in Telangana for the year. Union Tourism Minister G. Kishan Reddy announced this.
  • Pembarthi is known for brass and bronze products and home decorations, figurines of gods and goddesses, and other handicrafts, which are exported to countries like the U.S., Germany, Belgium, and Japan. About 25 thousand people visit the village annually. Chandlapur village is renowned for the famous Ranganayaka Swamy temple, 'Gollabama' sarees, and other crafts of the region. The Minister further said the Central government actively promoted Telangana arts and crafts, especially during the conclusion of the G-20 summit, where foreign delegates were presented with the Pochampally sarees and scarves.

Biswanath Ghat in Assam the Best Tourism Village of India

  • The Biswanath Ghat of Sonitpur district in Assam was selected as the best tourism village of India 2023 by the Ministry of Tourism.
  • This recognition came after an extensive selection process that involved reviewing 791 applications from 31 different states and union territories across the country.
  • Biswanath Ghat, situated to the south of Biswanath Chariali Town, is famously referred to as 'Gupta Kashi.' This name is derived from the ancient Biswanath temple in the town and draws a parallel with Kashi during the illustrious Gupta Empire era. This picturesque ghat is adorned with a collection of temples dedicated to various deities. Notably, a Shiva temple graces the confluence of the Bridhaganga (Burigonga) River with the Brahmaputra.
  • Assam, known for its diverse landscape and rich cultural heritage, offers a wide range of attractions to tourists. From picturesque hills to serene wetlands and lush reserve forests, the state provides visitors with a truly immersive travel experience.

IndiGo Announces Codeshare with British Airways

  • India's largest domestic airline and budget air carrier IndiGo announced a codeshare partnership with British Airways. With the announcement, IndiGo further enhanced its partnership with international airlines across the globe. This is the second codeshare partnership by IndiGo with a United Kingdom based airline. The air carrier already has codeshare partnerships with Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, American Airlines, Air France-KLM, Australian carrier Qantas and Virgin Atlantic.
  • Codeshare is a partnership between two airlines that allows an airline to place its two-letter identification code on the flight schedules of another airline. This means that flights can be marketed by one airline and operated by another.

Aviation Ministry Permits Akasa Air to Launch International Flights

  • Akasa Air received approval from the civil aviation ministry for starting international flights and is looking to fly to destinations in South Asia, Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
  • The airline, which is currently grappling with pilot shortage issues, has a fleet of 20 aircraft and plans to start flying to overseas destinations by year-end (2023).
  • Akasa Air is an Indian low-cost airline headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It was founded by Vinay Dube and Aditya Ghosh in 2021.
  • The airline began commercial operation with its first flight service from Mumbai to Ahmedabad on August 7, 2022.

Goa Govt. Launches Taxi Service App to Facilitate Easy Travel for Tourists

  • The Goa government launched a taxi service app through which people can book a cab online to travel anywhere within the coastal state. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant launched the 'Goa Taxi App' in the presence of state Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte, Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) chairman Ganesh Gaonkar and director of tourism Suneel Anchipaka.
