US Issued the Highest Number of Student Visas to Indians in 2022

As per the US Embassy in India, the United States issued a record of 82,000 student visas to Indians in 2022, the highest than any country.
This shows that the United States remains for most Indian families the most sought-after country for higher education.
Indian students comprise nearly 20 per cent of all international students studying in the United States, with the Open Doors report in 2021 showing there were 1,67,582 students from India in the 2020-2021 academic year.

WB Govt. UNICEF Rope in SHGs to Stop Child Marriage, Teenage Pregnancy

The West Bengal government in collaboration with UNICEF would form child-friendly 'sanghas' (clusters), comprising members of self-help groups (SHG), to curb child marriage and teenage pregnancy in the state, which is the highest in the country.
To stop these twin menaces, the state government and UNICEF planned, as a pilot project, to form 110 child-friendly 'sanghas' in the next six months in 87 blocks in all 23 districts of the state.
This initiative is aimed at addressing the issues that affect the lives of SHG members and their family members," Vibhu Goel, State Mission Director and CEO of West Bengal State Rural Livelihood Mission (SRLM), said at the end of a validation workshop.

IIT Madras, University of Sydney Join Hands to Address International Energy Challenges

The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT Madras) teamed up with the University of Sydney for a research partnership to help address the energy challenges the world is facing. As a part of this partnership, both the institutes would invest AU $50,000 a year in joint funding for up to four research projects.
In this partnership, researchers from both the institutions would work as a team to develop research and advance technology in fields related to energy. Researchers of both institutes from science and engineering fields are encouraged to come ahead and help in areas such as energy storage and conversion, solar desalination and cold storage, photo and electrochemical energy, gas turbines, micro-grids and renewable energy systems.

NCERT Approaches UGC for 'Deemed University' Status

With the government's proposal of making the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) an "institute of national importance" on the back burner, the NCERT is now vying for another tag — deemed to be university.
NCERT, an autonomous academic body advising the Centre on matters of school education, is learned to have applied to the University Grants Commission (UGC) for the "deemed university" status under the de novo category.

NIESBUD, IIE and ISB Signs MoU to Offer Entrepreneurial Programmes to India's Youth

The National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD) and the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) individually with the Indian School of Business (ISB), which is a top-ranking global business school, to offer world-class management education through entrepreneurial programs targeted towards youth and job seeking entrepreneurs.
The partnership will enable the development and implementation of two programs, one is Business Foundation & Entrepreneurial Skills and the other is Behavioural Skills Programme by ISB faculty and other Industry experts.

Confidence Index: Hyderabad Students Top; Delhi Kids Come 2nd

When it comes to confidence, students from Hyderabad took the lead, scoring 87 on a scale of 100. Those from Delhi followed close behind, at 80. Among non-metros, those from Surat came out top (83), while the overall score of India stood at 75. At a regional level, students from the western part of India were more confident, at 81, while those from the South and East hovered near the national average.
These are the findings of a first-of-its-kind Student Confidence Index calculated by LEAD, an edtech platform, in collaboration with the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS). The index aims to measure the confidence score of students across the nation.
The study was conducted across six metros and non-metros, and surveyed 2,807 students.
The Confidence Index was measured against five attributes: conceptual understanding; critical thinking; communication; collaboration; and exposure to opportunities and platforms. All of these play an important role in confidence-building measures for students.

NMC Allows Ukraine Returned Indian Students to Complete Education in other Countries

The National Medical Commission, NMC, issued a notice stating that it would agree to consider the academic mobility programme which is being offered by Ukraine that would allow war-torn Ukraine Indian students to complete their education by allowing them to be relocated to universities in other countries.
Under the academic mobility programme offered by Ukraine, these students would be able to complete their education and the degree would be awarded by the parent Ukrainian university only.

Warangal, Thrissur and Nilambur joined the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities (GNLC) in recognition of their outstanding efforts to make lifelong learning a reality for all at the local level.
Warangal in Telangana, Thrissur and Nilambur in Kerala are among the 77 cities from 44 countries which joined this network of the world body.
UNESCO GNLC is an international network consisting of cities that successfully promote lifelong learning across their communities.
It includes 294 cities from all around the world that share inspiration, know-how and best practice among each other.

Economist Bibek Debroy Appointed Chancellor of Pune's Deccan College

Economist and author Bibek Debroy was appointed as the Chancellor of Pune's Deccan College Post Graduate and Research Institute.
Debroy, who is presently the chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM), would succeed well-known archaeologist A. P. Jamkhedkar.
Debroy's career took off from Kolkata's Presidency College and spanned across the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade and United Nations Development Program on legal reforms at the Ministry of Finance.
He has been associated with the National Council of Applied Economic Research and Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Contemporary Studies and Centre for Policy Research.

First 'Made in India' Cervical Cancer Vaccine

The Central government launched India first vaccine against cervical cancer--Quadrivalent Human Papillomavirus vaccine (qHPV), developed by the Serum Institute of India (SII) and the Department of Biotechnology (DBT). According to the Serum Institute, the vaccine is likely to cost 200-400 per dose.
As per Adar Poonawalla, CEO, Serum Institute, production would start by November and December and final decision on rates will be discussed with the government.
Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of Science and Technology launched India's first indigenously developed vaccine, "CERVAVAC" for the prevention of cervical cancer.

To upskilling recent graduates and working professionals, Imarticus Learning, India's front-running professional education firm, along with IIT Roorkee launched the 4th batch of the Advanced Certification Programme in Cybersecurity.

DCGI Gives Nod to India's First Intranasal Covid Vaccine for Restricted Emergency Use

Bharat Biotech's intranasal Covid vaccine received official approval from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) for restricted emergency use in those aged above 18 years.
This is India's first nasal vaccine for Covid-19.
The Hyderabad-based firm completed clinical trials of the nasal vaccine with about 4,000 volunteers and there are no side effects or adverse reactions reported so far.

Rajasthan Govt. Introduces Personalised and Adaptive Learning (PAL) Programme to Restore Learning...

The Rajasthan government successfully completed a pilot for Mission Buniyaad - an ambitious PAL programme aiming to recoup learning level loss due to Covid-19 for 1 million adolescent girls and 2 million students in Rajasthan.
The Education Minister of Rajasthan, Bulaki Das Kalla, and Minister of State, Education, Zahida Khan, announced the state-wide scale-up of Mission Buniyaad.
The EdTech pilot was conducted among 35,000 girl students in six districts - Udaipur, Bhilwara, Sikar, Karauli, Dhaulpur, and Sirohi, with an average learning outcome improvement of 16 percent between baseline and endline.
