IIT Madras Ties up with Denmark for Next-gen Fuels, Energy Systems Research

  • Towards expanding research projects in areas of climate change mitigation and enabling green transition, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras announced a collaboration with Industry and Academia in Denmark.
  • Four projects were disclosed in the presence of the Crown Prince of Denmark, Lars Aagaard, Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities, Government of Denmark, and Freddy Svane, Ambassador of Denmark to India, among other stakeholders.
  • Three out of these four projects were announced to enable energy transition towards a low-carbon future as envisioned by IIT Madras Energy Consortium.
  • The fourth project was signed in the realm of Water to promote cooperation in engineering education and scientific research between Danfoss, Denmark and IIT Madras. Both institutions will undertake joint work on drinking water for coastal regions using renewable energy.

UPES School of Business Launches India's First MBA in Metaverse

  • UPES School of Business, a Dehradun-based private university, announced the launch of a first-of-its-kind MBA programme in Metaverse and Web 3.0 that offers aspirants a comprehensive understanding of the Metaverse, blockchain, and Web 3.0 ecosystems.
  • The two-year programme has a curriculum designed with three main principles in mind: theoretical knowledge of the Metaverse, immersive experiences through Meta labs, and practical experience with companies working in the Metaverse arena.
  • UPES School of Business has already experimented with classroom teaching in the Metaverse. The program aims to teach students how to work in the Metaverse through branding, marketing, and analytics.
  • With the launch of this new MBA programme, UPES School of Business endeavors to prepare future business managers and leaders well-versed in Web 3.0, such as product managers and chief Metaverse officers.

India, Australia Sign Framework for Mutual Recognition of Qualifications

  • India and Australia signed a Framework Mechanism for Mutual Recognition of Qualifications that will help ease the mobility of students and professionals between the two countries.
  • While the two countries will recognise the degrees, professional registrations of engineering, medicine and law pass outs will remain outside the framework's ambit.
  • The agreement was signed following a bilateral meeting between Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and his Australian counterpart Jason Clare, who is on a five-day visit to India.
  • At least 11 institutional-level memorandums were also exchanged between India and Australia's university sectors, which will promote research and academic collaborations between the two countries in several key sectors.

G. S. Bajpai is NLU Delhi's New VC

  • The National Law University (NLU), Delhi appointed Professor G. S. Bajpai as the new Vice Chancellor.
  • He was the former VC of Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Punjab and also served as the registrar of NLU Delhi.
  • Professor Bajpai has also been the professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice (Law), chair professor at KL Arora Chair in Criminal Law, chairperson of the Centre for Criminology and Victimology at NLU Delhi.

IIM Rohtak Welcomes Students of Mizoram for Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Programme

  • Indian Institute of Management (IIM Rohtak) welcomed students from Mizoram in New Delhi. The students reached the capital to participate in Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme.
  • IIM Rohtak, the Institute is the nodal institute for Haryana state for this initiative. A team of 24 students and 4 faculty members from Mizoram reached New Delhi to stay in Haryana Yuva Sangam under the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme for 6 days.
  • Governor of Haryana, Bandaru Dattatreya encouraged the students to consider this Yuva Sangam as an opportunity to learn and discover the diverse culture, history, and spirit of Haryana state.
  • Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme of Govt. of India aims to enhance interaction & promote mutual understanding between people of different states/UTs through the concept of state/UT pairing. IIM Rohtak will carry out activities to promote a sustained and structured exchange in the areas of culture, traditions, tourism &a cuisine, and sharing of best practices with the students from Mizoram.

Centre Unveils 'VAIBHAV Fellowship' for NRI Researchers

  • The government unveiled a fellowship to bring Indian-origin researchers to higher educational institutions in the country for a maximum period of two months per year. Unveiling 'VAIBHAV Fellowship', Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh said that it aims to improve the research ecosystem of India's higher educational institutions by facilitating academic and research collaborations with the best institutions in the world through mobility of researchers from overseas institutions to India.
  • The duration of the fellowship is three years with the government offering the researchers an amount of up to Rs. 37 lakh for the entire period.
  • Researchers from institutions featuring in the top 500 QS World University Rankings are eligible for the fellowship.

Australia's Wollongong and Deakin Universities to Set up Campuses in Gujarat's GIFT City

  • Union Minister for Education, Dharmendra Pradhan announced that two Australian universities will be setting up their campuses in India. The two universities are — Wollongong and Deakin, and the campuses will be set up in GIFT city, Gujarat.
  • The two varsities will sign an agreement regarding the same next week, during Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's visit to India.
  • Pradhan made the announcement during an event at Sri Venkateswara College, Delhi University. Australian Minister of Education Jason Clare, former cricketer Adam Gilchrist and a delegation from the country were present at the event. Clare is on a four-day visit to India on the invitation of the Education Minister.

Winners of IFFCO IIMCAA Awards

  • The Indian Institute of Mass Communication Alumni Association (IIMCAA) conducted its 11th annual alumni meet Connections 2023, at its New Delhi headquarters. At the event, the winners of the 7th IFFCO IIMCAA Awards were announced. The Director General of the IIMC, Prof. Sanjay Dwivedi, presented awards to the winners.
  • The IFFCO IMCA Award winners: Odisha's litterateur Dr. Gayatri Bala Panda received the Alumni of the Year award. Pankaj Chandra Goswami, Amit Katoch, Sushil Singh, and ATE P. Lee received the Public Service Award. Utkarsh Singh of Bihar won the Journalist of the Year Award and received Rs. 1.50 lakh in cash. Rohit Vishwakarma of Delhi won a reward of Rs. 1 lakh for his work in agricultural journalism.
  • Andrew Amsan of Delhi won the "Reporter of the Year" award in publishing, and Nibir Deka of Assam won in broadcasting. Both received a prize of INR 50,000.
  • Jyoti Jangra of Delhi was awarded Producer of the Year, A.R. Hemant of Karnataka was awarded PR Person of the Year, and Mohit Pasricha of Delhi was awarded Ad Person of the Year.
  • The "Lifetime Achievement Award" was given to Prof. Gita Bamezai, Anita Kaul Basu, Prakash Patra, Samudra Gupta Kashyap, and Anurag Vajpeyi.

Bhutan Aims to End Malaria by 2025

  • As per reports, Bhutan, which had earlier failed to meet targets for the elimination of malaria in 2018 and 2020, now aims to eliminate the disease by 2025.
  • Bhutan's Health Minister said that cross-border issues in the south especially during the COVID-19 pandemic have hampered the country's progress to eliminate malaria.
  • According to the Health Minister, malaria elimination is achieved when the country does not report any indigenous or community cases. It means that the country could report imported malaria cases even if the country achieves elimination status.

IIT Mandi Invites Uttar Pradesh Govt. Schools and Teachers for PRAYAS 2.0

  • For PRAYAS 2.0, the Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi's Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) extended an invitation to Uttar Pradesh government school students and teachers. The summer camp will be organised from June 5 to July 4, 2023.
  • By engaging young students in mentor-based programmes, the Institute aims to inspire them to become science and technology leaders and innovators.
  • In addition to studying Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI), the students will be implementing these concepts and applying them in real-life situations and coming up with innovative ideas that could change the world.
  • In 2022, the Institute in collaboration with Himachal Pradesh Kaushal Vikas Nigam, Shimla, successfully hosted its first School Camp on Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (PRAYAS 1.0) from July 1, 2022 to July 22, 2022 and hosted 100 participants.
