Bangladesh Commissions its First Submarine Base 'BNS Sheikh Hasina'

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the first submarine base of Bangladesh 'BNS Sheikh Hasina' at Pekua in Cox's Bazar. Hailing the newly inaugurated naval base as an 'ultra modern submarine base', Prime Minister called the event a proud chapter in the history of Bangladesh navy.
Prime Minister Hasina said that her government has been working on 'Forces Goal 2030' to transform its military force into a modern organisation suitable for the times.
The Government of Bangladesh had signed an agreement with China in September 2019 for the construction of the submarine base.

Paras Defence Bags Order from CSIR

The Aerospace and defence company Paras Defence secured an order around Rs. 64 crore for Avionics Suite for Saras MK-2 Aircraft from Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR)- National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL).
Saras is the first Indian multi-purpose civilian aircraft in the light transport aircraft category as designed by the CSIR-NAL.
Avionics Suite of Saras MK - 2 Aircraft is the complete glass cockpit of the aircraft, including all the equipment related to control, monitoring, communication, navigation, weather and anti-collision systems along with auto-pilot system.
Paras Defence and Space Technologies offers high precision products and turnkey solutions to the defense and space sector, operating in three main verticals - defence and space optics, defence electronics solutions, and heavy engineering.

Second Anti-submarine Warfare Craft Launched in Kolkata

The second anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft (ASW SWC) named INS Androth was launched at Garden Reach Ship Builders in Kolkata.
It is used to protect the coastal low draft region wherever they are deployed. The first one Arnala was launched last year.
The primary role of the ASW SWC is to conduct anti-submarine operations in coastal waters, Low Intensity Maritime Operations (LIMO) and mine laying operations. These ships are also capable of full-scale sub surface surveillance of coastal waters and various surface platforms and coordinated ASW operations with aircraft.

Carborundum Universal Partners DRDO for 'Ceramic Radome' Technology

Carborundum Universal Limited (CUMI), a private sector pioneer in material sciences, signed a "Licensing Agreement for Transfer of Technology" with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for manufacturing ceramic radomes used in aerospace and missile systems.
Ceramic radome is regarded as an essential, state-of-the-art technology for ballistic and tactical missiles and high-performance aircraft. Missiles undergo extremely high surface temperatures while travelling through the atmosphere, and while re-entering it from space. To withstand those temperatures, radomes located at the tip of a missile are made of ceramic.
The ceramic radomes have been developed indigenously by Research Centre Imarat (RCI), one of the premier DRDO labs in the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Missile Complex, which has developed India's missile arsenal. RCI spearheads R&D in a diverse range of avionics systems for missile and aerospace applications.

India, Maldives Hold Fourth Defence Cooperation Dialogue in Male

India and the Maldives conducted the 4th Defence Cooperation Dialogue (DCD) in Male and reviewed the entire gamut of bilateral defence engagements, while agreeing to increase the complexity of existing exercises.
The dialogue was co-chaired by Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane and his Maldivian counterpart, Chief of Defence Force, Maldives National Defence Forces Major General Abdulla Shamaal.
This DCD is the highest institutionalised interactive mechanism between the two countries. Its significance in chartering the future course of relations between both the Armed Forces was highlighted by the importance given to the talks by the two nations.

Indian Army is Set to Host the Second Edition of the Africa-India Field Training Exercise (AFINDE...

Pune will host two strategically important events to boost defence ties between India and African nations – the India-Africa Army Chiefs Conclave on March 28-29 and the 10-day Africa-India Field Training Exercise (AFINDEX 2023) from March 21 to 30.
Army Chiefs or their representatives from 21 African countries will attend the event and 24 African militaries are being represented by their contingents or teams of observers. The second edition of AFINDEX will enable the participating contingents to hone their tactical skills, drills and procedures in joint operations for peacekeeping under United Nations mandate. The exercise will also create synergy and better understanding with armies of African nations and promote Indian defence industries.
AFINDEX 2023 will commence with an opening ceremony at the Foreign Training Node in Aundh, Pune.
The exercise is divided into four phases in which trainers would be initially trained. This would be followed by a humanitarian mine action and a peace-keeping operations phase. Finally, a validation exercise will be conducted on March 29 to assess the results of the training conducted and will be witnessed by the Chiefs of African armies.

After BSF, Agniveers to Get 10% reservation in CISF Jobs

The Union Home Ministry announced 10 per cent reservation for former Agniveers in vacancies in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), a week after taking a similar initiative for jobs for them in the BSF.
The ministry also notified relaxation in the upper age limit depending on whether they are part of the first batch or subsequent batches of Agniveers.
The announcement was made through a notification after amending the rules made under the Central Industrial Security Force Act, 1968, (50 of 1968).
The upper age limit shall be relaxable up to five years for candidates of the first batch of former Agniveers and up to three years for candidates of other batches.
Ex-Agniveers will also be exempted from physical efficiency test.

Naval Forces from China, Russia, Iran Conduct Joint Drills in Gulf of Oman

Naval forces from China, Iran and Russia all countries at varying degrees of odds with the United States staged joint drills in the Gulf of Oman.
Other countries also took part in the Security Bond-2023 exercise.
These exercises helped deepen practical cooperation between the participating countries' navies.
The exercises came amid heightened tensions between the U.S. and China over a range of issues, including China's refusal to criticise Moscow over its invasion of Ukraine and continuing support for the Russian economy.

Coast Guard Holds Drill with 5 Nations

The Indian Coast Guard conducted a three-day (March 14-16) exercise with five nations under the aegis of the Colombo Security Conclave at Kolkata.
Sri Lanka, the Maldives and Mauritius, along with observer countries, Bangladesh and Seychelles, participated in the drill.
The Colombo Security Conclave was formed in 2011. It aims to make maritime security, marine pollution response and maritime search and rescue priorities for the region.
