GAIL Signs Concession Agreement to Set up CBG Plant in Bengaluru
GAIL (India) Limited signed a tripartite Concession Agreement with the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) and Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML) to develop a Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) plant at the KCDC area in Haralakunte Village, Bengaluru South Taluk.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. Under the agreement, GBA will provide 18 acres of land on a permissive-use basis, while BSWML will supply 300 tonnes per day of segregated municipal solid waste (MSW) for processing.
The plant is expected to produce around 12.6 tonnes of Compressed Bio Gas and 22 tonnes of Fermented Organic Manure (FOM) daily. The project aims to promote sustainable agriculture and support the development of a circular economy in the region.

LIC Launches Jan Suraksha and Bima Lakshmi Insurance Plans
The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) launched two new insurance plans—Jan Suraksha Plan (880) and Bima Lakshmi Plan (881). These are the first policies introduced by LIC under the new GST regime, reflecting its efforts to expand financial protection across diverse income and gender groups. While Jan Suraksha caters to the lower-income segment, Bima Lakshmi is an exclusive offering for women, providing a blend of protection, savings, and health benefits.
The LIC Jan Suraksha Plan (880) is a life micro-insurance endowment plan. It offers a lump sum at maturity and life cover during the policy term.
The plan includes guaranteed additions at the rate of 4% of the annualised premium each year, helping build savings over time.
The LIC Bima Lakshmi Plan is a non-linked life insurance policy with guaranteed benefits and money-back options.
It also includes critical illness coverage, making it a holistic plan for women.

India, Brazil Agree to Deepen trade Agreement with MERCOSUR Countries
India and Brazil reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening trade ties through a deeper MERCOSUR-India Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA), according to a release by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry.
The announcement came after a meeting between Brazil's Vice President and Minister of Development, Industry, Trade and Services, Geraldo Alckmin, and Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal.
The two leaders welcomed the mutual interest of India and MERCOSUR Member States in expanding the existing PTA to promote trade and investment. Recalling the Framework Agreement signed in 2003, they agreed that the expansion should be substantial, aiming for a significant share of bilateral trade to benefit from tariff preferences.
The full member countries of MERCOSUR are Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay, while Bolivia became a full member in July 2015. Venezuela was a member but was suspended in 2016.

India Resume International Postal Services to the United States of America
The Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, Government of India, announced the resumption of all categories of international postal services to the United States of America (USA) with effect from October 15, 2025.
Postal services to the USA were earlier suspended through Office Memorandum dated 22 August 2025, following Executive Order 14324 issued by the U.S. Administration, which suspended the de minimis treatment for all postal shipments. The suspension was necessitated by new regulatory requirements introduced by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for the collection and remittance of import duties.

Hindustan Shipyard Granted Mini Ratna Status
Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), one of India's oldest shipbuilding entities, was conferred Mini Ratna status by the Government of India. This recognition marks a significant turnaround for the shipyard and strengthens its role in India's maritime and defence manufacturing ecosystem.
Founded in 1941, HSL was once a cornerstone of India's shipbuilding capability, producing vessels for both commercial and naval use.
However, from the 1980s onward, it faced severe operational and financial setbacks due to outdated technology, project delays, and poor competitiveness.
Despite being transferred to the Ministry of Defence in 2010, its revival took shape only after 2015.

Indian Railways Launches Door-to-Door Freight Services to Cut Logistics Costs, Bridge Last-mile Gaps
With an eye on modernising its freight transportation system, the Indian Railways launched a door-to-door parcel service between Mumbai and Kolkata and assured Transit Container Train Service between Delhi-Kolkata, alongside the inauguration of the Sonik Integrated Logistics Hub in Unnao, near Lucknow.
Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw said industries can now send a specific number of containers instead of being required fill an entire rake to their destination.
Door-to-door services are essential for the country. This will enhance rail efficiency and reduce logistics costs. Several experiments were conducted, and based on these findings, three solutions have been launched. Now, even goods like tractors will be transported by rail.
This marks a strategic shift in the Railways' approach from being a traditional freight operator for bulk commodities to becoming a logistics service provider. The Railways aims to deliver first and last-mile connectivity across industrial and consumer sectors.
India Secures First Global Order to Build LNG-powered Container Ships Worth $300 Million
France-based CMA CGM, the world's third-biggest container carrier, sees India as an "alternative" for building small, liquefied natural gas-powered box ships, chairman and chief executive Rodolphe Saade said, after signed a letter of intent with Cochin Shipyard for constructing six such ships for about $300 million. This is the first container ship order ever to be placed by a global mainline ship operator in India and an inflection point for the industry.

FICCI Announces Anant Goenka as President-elect for 2025-26
Industry chamber FICCI in October 2025 announced RPG Group vice chairman Anant Goenka as president-elect for 2025-26.
Mr. Goenka is currently the senior vice president of the chamber.
He will succeed Harsha Vardhan Agarwal at the conclusion of its annual general meeting, which is slated for the end of next month here.
RPG Group is a $5 billion conglomerate with interests in the tyre, infrastructure, pharma, IT and speciality sectors, the chamber said in a statement.
Goenka was earlier the MD and CEO of CEAT. He has also worked with Unilever and KEC International.
Mr. Anant has an MBA from Kellogg School of Management and a BS Economics from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
India and Saudi Arabia Strengthen Cooperation in Chemicals and Petrochemicals Sector
A bilateral meeting held between Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India and Ministry of Industry and Minerals, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Indian side was led by Ms. Nivedita Shukla Verma, Secretary Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals. The Saudi delegation was led by H.E Eng. Khalil bin Ibrahim bin Salamah, Vice Minister of Industry and Minerals.
Saudi Arabia is India's fourth largest trade partner, and India is Saudi Arabia's second largest trade partner. Bilateral trade between the two countries reached USD 41.88 billion in 2024–25, with chemicals and petrochemicals contributing 10%, which is nearly USD 4.5 billion.
