Virgin Atlantic Flies World's 1st 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel Flight from London to US

A Virgin Atlantic's Boeing 787s made the world's first 100 per cent Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) flight from London's Heathrow to New York's John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport.
UK's Transport Secretary travelled on the flight alongside Virgin Atlantic's Chief Executive Shai Weiss and Virgin's founder, Sir Richard Branson, making the carrier the first commercial airline to fly across the pond without the use of any fossil-based jet fuel.
According to the UK government, the flight marked a major milestone towards making air travel more environment-friendly as the world moves towards its goal of net zero by 2050.
The historic trip was powered by fuel made from waste fats that cannot enter the food chain. Repurposing waste products into jet fuel to cut emissions provides the most immediate solution to help decarbonise skies.

India's Largest Tiger Reserve to be Set Up in Damoh

In a landmark development, Damoh district in Madhya Pradesh is poised to become the home of the country's largest tiger reserve, marking a significant stride in wildlife conservation efforts. The central government approved the merger of Noradehi Sanctuary with the Durgavati Sanctuary in Damoh, creating an expansive tiger reserve spanning an impressive 2,300 square kilometres.
The central government's issuance of a notification approving the merger reflects a commitment to preserving and protecting India's rich biodiversity. The amalgamation of these two sanctuaries underscores the nation's dedication to creating substantial habitats for its tiger population.
Situated around the Jabera area of Damoh district, the new tiger reserve is strategically located to enhance conservation efforts. The geographical concentration around Jabera is expected to provide an optimal environment for the flourishing of the tiger population.

Scientists Uncover Hidden Water Mass in the Heart of Atlantic

A previously hidden water mass was identified in the middle of the Atlantic, offering a new perspective on ocean dynamics. The newly discovered Atlantic Equatorial Water forms along the equator as ocean currents merge distinct water bodies from the north and south.
The researchers spotted waters mixing along the equator in the Pacific and Indian oceans.

Iceberg A23a on the Move after 30 Years

One of the world's biggest iceberg is on the move after more than 30 years being stuck to the ocean floor.
The iceberg, called A23a, split from the Antarctic coastline in 1986. But it swiftly grounded in the Weddell Sea, becoming, essentially, an ice island.
At almost 4,000 sq km (1,500 sq miles) in area, it's more than twice the size of Greater London.
The past year has seen it drifting at speed, and the berg is now about to spill beyond Antarctic waters.

UAE Inaugurates World's Largest Single-site Solar Power Plant ahead of COP28

The United Arab Emirates inaugurated the world's largest single-site solar power plant ahead of the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28). The 2-gigawatt Al Dhafra Solar Photovoltaic Independent Power Project (IPP) is located 35 kilometers from Abu Dhabi city and will generate enough electricity to power almost 200,000 homes. The plant is expected to displace 2.4 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
The project was inaugurated by Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi in the presence of Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior.
