SC Collegium Recommends Names for Chief Justices of Five High Courts
The Supreme Court Collegium recommended the names of Chief Justices for the High Courts of Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana, Gauhati, Jharkhand and Allahabad.
The three-member Collegium presided by Chief Justice of India D. Y. Chandrachud noted that the office of the CJ of Rajasthan HC had fallen vacant following elevation of its former CJ Augustine George Masih to the SC, and recommended that Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava, the senior-most judge from the High Court of Chhattisgarh, be appointed in his place. Justice Srivastava is currently functioning as the Acting CJ of Rajasthan HC.

Justice Chandrashekhar is Acting Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court
The Union Government announced the appointment of Justice Chandrashekhar as the Acting Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court. The notification was issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice.
This appointment followed the retirement of Chief Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra, who served as the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court until December 28, 2023.
Justice Chandrashekhar served as the standing Counsel for All India Council for Technical Education and the State of Jharkhand in the Supreme Court.
The Jharkhand High Court is one of the newest high courts in India. It was established in 2000. The seat of the court is at Ranchi, the administrative capital of the state.
The court has a sanctioned judge strength of 25.
Vinod Kumar Gupta was the first Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court from December 2000 to March 2003.

Justice Sanjiv Khanna of Supreme Court Nominated as Executive Chairperson of NALSA
President of India Droupadi Murmu nominated Justice Sanjiv Khanna of the Supreme Court as Executive Chairperson of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).
The Chief Justice of India is the NALSA's Patron-in-Chief, according to the Legal Services Authority Act of 1987. The President of India, in collaboration with the Chief Justice of India, appoints an active or retired Supreme Court judge as Executive Chairman.
As per convention, the post of Executive Chairman of NALSA is occupied by the second senior-most judge of the Supreme Court. It was previously held by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, who demitted office on December 25.

Legal Advice Given by Solicitor General to Central Government Exempt from RTI Act
The Delhi High Court held that the legal advice given by the Solicitor General of India to the Government of India and other government departments is exempt from disclosure as per Section 8(1)(e) of the Right to Information Act of 2005 (RTI Act).
Justice Subramonium Prasad observed that as per the rules of engagement of a law officer for Union of India -- Law Officer (Conditions of Service) Rules, 1987 – and the judgements of the Supreme Court, the relationship between the Solicitor General of India and the Government of India is that of a fiduciary and a beneficiary.
The Court came to this conclusion as it set aside an order passed by the Central Information Commissioner (CIC) in the case filed by one Subhash Chandra Agrawal.

Advocate Brijesh Trivedi is President of Gujarat High Court Advocates' Association
Advocate Brijesh Trivedi was elected the President of the Gujarat High Court Advocates' Association (GHCAA).
Trivedi was voted as the President with 1,060 votes defeating his nearest rival and former GHCAA President Pravinsinh Jadeja who secured 580 votes.
Advocate Virat Popat was elected the Vice President. Advocate Hardik Brahmbhatt retained the post of General Secretary bagging 835 votes. This is the third time that he was elected the General Secretary.
Advocates Bhavik Pandya and Darshan Dave were elected Joint Secretary and Treasurer, respectively.
