AAHAR 2023: Asia's Biggest International Food and Hospitality Fair in Delhi

  • Aahar 2023 organized with the support of the Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Agriculture and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), and other bodies, focus on unveiling the potential of the hospitality sector and exhibiting technologies, products and services to domestic and international buyers.
  • Aahar is India's largest four-day culinary show where hoteliers and restauranteurs, caterers and distributors come to source the best in culinary, hospitality and equipment and also guage the market trends.
  • Aahar 2023 was held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

Ministry of Jal Shakti Recommends 75 Water Heritage Sites

  • The Ministry of Jal Shakti had constituted a Committee to identify 75 Water Heritage Structure (WHS) in reference to 75 years of India's Independence.
  • The Committee recommended 75 water heritage structures, which include 5 Water Heritage structures from Gujarat and 4 Water Heritage structures from Andhra Pradesh respectively.
  • The maximum number of Water Heritage Structures were selected from Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu with 7 each. They were followed by Madhya Pradesh 6, Gujarat and Karnataks with 5 each.
  • In this connection, the "Jal-Itihas" sub-portal under the India-WRIS portal, showcasing the 75 WHS, was launched at the 1st All India State Ministers Conference on Water at Bhopal.
  • Jal Itihaas showcases some selected water heritage structures more than 100 years old.
  • India-WRIS portal is a web-enabled Water Resources Information System popularly known as India-WRIS.
  • It was initiated through a Memorandum of Understanding between the Central Water Commission (CWC), the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation (now Ministry of Jal Shakti) and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

Thousands Gather to Watch Unique Huranga Festival in UP's Mathura (12)

  • Thousands of pilgrims watched 'Huranga" being played in Dau Ji temple in Baldeo town, Mathura.
  • Celebrated after Holi, Huranga festival is marked with strange rituals—men trying to drench women with water colours, and the women reciprocating by tearing off the wet clothes of the men and then whipping them with it.
  • Huranga is traditionally played between "bhabhis" and "devars" (sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law).

Yaoshang Festival Concludes in Manipur (11)

  • The five-day-long Yaoshang festival, Manipur's version of Holi, concluded.
  • The festival is celebrated every year on the full moon of Lamta (February-March) of the Meitei lunar calendar. Yaoshang begins just after sunset followed by Yaosang Mei thaba, also known as Burning of the Straw Hut. Children visit neighbours to ask for monetary donations, called nakatheng.
  • Yaoshang, unlike Holi, is celebrated with a traditional twist in Manipur. During these five days Manipur comes alive with sporting events during the day and traditional "thabal chongba" dance in the night.
  • The thabal chongba is a traditional dance of the Meitei, where boys and girls gathered in an open ground and dance in a circle. But these days thabal chongba is performed throughout the month of Lamta.
