Ayodhya Sets Guinness Record by Lighting 22 Lakh Diyas

  • More than 22 lakh 'diyas' illuminated the banks of the Saryu River in Ayodhya during the seventh edition of the Deepotsav, setting a new world record for lighting a large number of lamps simultaneously at one place.
  • The 22+ lakh 'diyas' (earthen lanterns), 6.47 lakh more than the previous year, were lit by 25,000 volunteers at the 51 ghats of Ram Ki Paidi along the river. The representatives of the Guinness Book of World Records, using drones to count the lamps, officially recognised Ayodhya's achievement, echoing the city with triumphant chants of 'Jai Shri Ram'.
  • Upon receiving the certificate from the Guinness Book of World Records, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath extended warm greetings to the entire Ayodhya and its residents.

54th International Film Festival of India to be Held from 20th to 28th November in Goa

  • Union Minister Shri Anurag Thakur announced that 54th International Film Festival will be held from 20th to 28th November, 2023, in Goa.
  • British film "Catching Dust" will open the 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on November 20, while American film "The Featherweight" will be the closing title.
  • Hollywood actor Michael Douglas will be awarded with the Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award at the eight-day-long annual festival organised by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting.

Tamil actor Junior Balaiah dies of suffocation at Chennai home; he was 70

  •  Junior Balaiah died on Thursday in Chennai. He was 70. The late actor was known for films such as Sundarakandam.
  • Tamil actor Junior Balaiah died at his residence in Chennai. Junior Balaiah had acted in over a hundred films including Karakatakkaran, Gopura Vasalile and Sundarakandam. In the 2010s, Balaiah made rare appearances in Tamil films and won acclaim for his portrayal of a headmaster in Saattai (2012). He died on Thursday morning due to asphyxiation. He was 70. Congress Welcomes National Monuments Authority Move to Protect Ashoka Site in Bihar

  • The Congress welcomed the National Monuments Authority (NMA) move for the protection of an Ashokan site located at Kumhrar, a suburb of Patna, Bihar.
  • National Monuments Authority (NMA) released the draft heritage bylaws for the centrally protected monument in Bihar, the supposed site of the Palace of Asoka, for conservation and periphery development.
  • According to the draft law, excavations at Kumhrar conducted by K. P. Jayaswal Research Institute revealed cultural sequence of the site from Mauryan period to 600 CE. Eight more stumps of pillars of the Mauryan pillared hall, in addition to those exposed in a previous excavation, were discovered by the researchers.
  • Artefacts found at the site including potsherds and coins suggest existence of a hospital (arogya vihar), the NMA draft law said and added that the findings corroborated the fifth century Chinese monk Fa-Hien's account which mentioned existence of a hospital at Pataliputra (modern-day Patna).
  • NMA, set up in 2010 for protection of endangered cultural heritage, has so far laid in both Houses of Parliament a total of eight heritage bylaws covering 34 centrally protected monuments.

Arjun Munda Inaugurates National Tribal Festival in Ahmedabad

  • Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Arjun Munda and Chief Minister of Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the Aadi Mahotsav at Ahmedabad and paid a reverent tribute to Bhagwan Birsa Munda. The 10-day mega event is being organized by the TRIFED (Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India, Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs), at the Ahmedabad Haat, Vastrapur, Ahmedabad. The theme of the festival is 'Celebration of Tribal Entrepreneurship, Crafts, Culture and Commerce'.
  • The Aadi Mahotsav features the exhibition-cum-sale of tribal handicrafts, art, paintings, fabric, jewellery, cuisine and much more through 100 stalls. More than 200 tribal artisans and artists from across the country are participating in the festival.
  • The Aadi Mahotsav will conclude on the 3rd of November.
