  • Odisha achieved a remarkable climb in the Union Ministry of Education's Performance Grading Index 2.0 (PGI2.0) for 2023-24, securing the fifth position nationally.

Puducherry Becomes First State to Integrate TB Screening in Family Adoption Programme

  • Puducherry made a pioneering move in the fight against tuberculosis (TB) by becoming the first Union Territory in India to integrate TB screening as part of the Family Adoption Programme. This innovative approach is being carried out through collaboration between medical colleges, students, and the local health department.
  • The Family Adoption Programme is a National Medical Commission-mandated initiative where medical students adopt 3 to 5 families as part of their community outreach and follow up with them over a period of three years.

India-Sri Lanka Educational Ties Grow Stronger with Launch of Hindi Language Course at KDU

  • In a step toward strengthening India-Sri Lanka cultural and educational relations, the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) in Colombo launched a Hindi Language Learning Programme. This initiative is in collaboration with the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC), the cultural wing of the High Commission of India in Sri Lanka.
  • The programme was formally inaugurated by Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha and KDU Vice Chancellor Rear Admiral HGU Dammika Kumara. The event was attended by senior military officials, university faculty, and students, underlining the significance of this collaboration.
  • The new Hindi course at KDU will be offered as an undergraduate elective and is open to both military and civilian students. It will focus on developing basic language skills, with special attention to speaking, reading, writing, and understanding cultural context.

Department of School Education & Literacy Convenes National Conference on Curricular and Assessme...

  • The Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSE&L), Ministry of Education, Government of India, convened the National Conference on Curricular and Assessment Equivalence of Boards and Improving Learning Outcomes, at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, New Delhi.
  • This high-level gathering brought together more than 250 senior officials from the Ministry of Education, State Education Departments, State Education Boards, SCERTs, and representatives from Autonomous Bodies including CBSE, KVS and NVS.
  • Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, DoSE&L, chaired the event and underscored the importance of creating mechanisms for ensuring consistency in assessments and academic outcomes across diverse education systems while preserving flexibility for local needs.
  • A major highlight of the conference was the formal launch of the PARAKH Rashtriya Sarvekshan Dissemination Portal, which provides open access to National and State-level data on student performance. This tool is expected to serve as a key resource for States/UTs to design targeted improvement plans to enhance learning outcomes and bridge skill gaps.

Vedic Maths to be Added to NCERT Textbooks for Classes 6 to 8 in Uttar Pradesh

  • In a new step towards revamping school education, the Uttar Pradesh government announced that Vedic Mathematics will be introduced in NCERT textbooks for Classes 6 to 8 starting the 2025-26 academic session. This new addition will apply to all government-run schools in the state.
  • Vedic maths, known for its quick and simple calculation techniques, will now be formally part of the school curriculum. It's being introduced as a way to sharpen students' numerical skills, reduce fear of maths, and bring Indian knowledge systems back into the mainstream -- just as the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) envisioned.

IIM Jammu 5th among 21 IIMs to Secure Two International Accreditations

  • The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu became one of the few Indian B-schools to earn two prestigious global accreditations in the same academic year. The institute secured a five-year institutional accreditation from the Business Graduates Association (BGA) and a three-year programme accreditation from the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) for its flagship MBA programme.
  • This double recognition places IIM Jammu among the top five IIMs out of 21 to hold both BGA and EFMD accreditations, a rare feat for a second-generation institution.
