Indian students Win 5 Medals at International Physics Olympiad

Students from India bagged three gold and two silver medals at the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO), 2023, which was held in Tokyo, Japan from July 10 to 17, 2023.
The Indian team is comprised of five boys, who all achieved either gold or silver medal. Aditya from Pitampura, (Delhi), Dhruv Shah from Pune and Mehul Borad from Kachiguda (Telangana) bagged gold medals each. Raghav Goyal from Chandigarh and Rhythm Kedia from Raipur (Chhattisgarh) earned silver medals each.
This year's (2023) Indian team was led by two leaders from India — Prof. Arun V. Kulkarni (Professor, BITS Pilani, Goa), Dr. Shirish Pathare (HBCSE, TIFR). There were also two Scientific Observers — Prof. Anwesh Mazumdar (HBCSE, Mumbai), Dr. Leena Joshi (St Xaviers' College, Mumbai).

IIT Roorkee's Research Awards

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee announced the names of professors who won the Research Awards. The institute annually presents Research Awards to honour the work of researchers in their respective fields.
The IIT Roorkee Research Awards 2022 were accessible to all citizens of India and have been offered ever since the institution's founding. In 1847, it was founded as College Civil Engineering, Roorkee. In 1949, it was established as a university, and in 2001, it became an IIT.
The Khosla National Award (Sciences) was given to Kanishka Biswas, a professor in the brand-new chemistry department at Bangalore's Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research.
Professor R. P. Saini of IIT Roorkee's department of hydro and renewable energy received the HRED Hydro and Renewable Energy Award from the institute.
D. P. Kanungo was declared the AS Arya Disaster Prevention Award winner. Professor Kanungo is the Chief Scientist & Group Leader of the Geo-Hazard Risk Reduction Group of CSIR-CBRI, Roorkee.
Deepankar Choudhury, Professor IIT Bombay, won the Gopal Ranjan Technology Award. He is the only Geotechnical Engineer in the country who is an elected Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI), the oldest Science Academy of India.
Satish Chandra was awarded the SR Mehra Memorial Award. He is a Professor in Civil Engineering Department at IIT Roorkee.

Dharmendra Pradhan and Lawrence Wong Felicitate Winners of the Third Edition of Singapore-India H...

Union Minister of Education and Skill Development Dharmendra Pradhan and Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong felicitated the winners of the third edition of Singapore-India Hackathon in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
The hacathon was jointly organised by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) of Ministry of Education, India and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore).
The top student prize was conferred to students of Nanyang Technological University, Amity University, and Dwarkadas College of Engineering who developed a tool to help regulators detect potential suspects of insider trading.
The top winner in the start-up category, Haqdarshak won for enabling 2.8 million Indians to unlock close to SGD 700 million in government welfare services. Held under the G20 Presidency in IIT Gandhinagar, Gujarat, the hackathon's finale brought together the best start-ups and students from India and Singapore. It was attended by over 600 students, start-ups, investors, policymakers, corporates, and academics.
This year's (2023) Singapore-India Hackathon, apart from academic institutions like NTU Singapore and IIT Gandhinagar, brought together leading corporates and the public sector from both nations to mentor the aspiring entrepreneurs.

Dharmendra Pradhan Launches AI for India 2.0

Union Minister of Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan launched AI for India 2.0, a free online training programme on Artificial Intelligence, on World Youth Skills' Day. A joint initiative of Skill India and GUVI, this NCVET and IIT Madras accredited online programme will equip youth with frontier skills.
GUVI, an IIT Madras incubated start-up is a tech platform that enables tech learning in vernacular languages. This program has been curated in 9 Indian languages.

IIT-Delhi Set to Open a Campus in Abu Dhabi

The Indian Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, is set to open a campus in Abu Dhabi with an MoU signed between the Ministry of Education and the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
This will be the second international campus for an IIT. Earlier, IIT-Madras had signed an MoU to set up a campus in Zanzibar.

Tezpur University, IITM Pune Join Hands to Study Carbon Exchange in Kaziranga National Park

Tezpur University and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune joined hands in a significant research collaboration. They signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to assess the net ecosystem exchange of carbon dioxide in the renowned Kaziranga National Park.
The MoU was signed in a virtual ceremony in the presence of Union Minister of Earth Sciences, Kiren Rijiju, and the department secretary, M. Ravichandran. This collaboration marks a significant step towards understanding the carbon dynamics of the ecosystem in Kaziranga.
This collaboration between Tezpur University and IITM Pune brings together the expertise of two esteemed institutions to address crucial environmental challenges.

Meghalaya Govt. Forms Education Commission to Revamp Education Sector

The Meghalaya government took a significant step towards improving the education sector by appointing a four-member state education commission.
Led by Sherwin May Sungoh, the head of the education department at North Eastern Hill University, the commission aims to recommend reforms and policy changes to promote quality education across schools, colleges, and higher and technical education institutions in the state.
The commission will also receive support from 12 co-opted members, ensuring a comprehensive and diverse perspective in its recommendations. The term of the commission will be two years, providing ample time to assess the education landscape and propose impactful reforms.

IIT Roorkee Launches Certification Programme in Human Resource Management and Analytics

The Continuing Education Centre, CEC, IIT Roorkee, one of the top technological establishments globally, has made significant contributions to advancing various technological areas. In collaboration with Imarticus Learning, India's leading professional education company, CEC, IIT Roorkee announced the launch of its certification programme in Human Resource Management and Analytics.
This innovative programme aims to revolutionise HR management practices by leveraging data-driven decision-making techniques.
With a focus on optimising HR processes and enhancing organisational performance, this programme equips participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in the field of human resource management. In addition, DoMS plays an active role in curriculum development, course delivery, and practical training for students.
The programme spans six months and offers 100 hours of live training, including both theoretical concepts and hands-on practice.

Odisha Govt. to offer Rs. 50k Aid to Underprivileged SC, ST students

The Odisha government took a significant step towards promoting higher education among underprivileged ST and SC students. Starting this year (2023), the government will provide one-time financial assistance of Rs. 50,000 to ST and SC students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds pursuing general degree courses in any government institution in the state.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik made this announcement during a meeting of the Tribes Advisory Council.

IIT Jodhpur, Zoological Survey of India Join Hands

The Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur and the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) will be working together to collect, study and share the data related to faunal specimens for science.
The collaboration will support conducting of joint fieldwork expeditions, identifying fauna of the Thar eco-region, and developing models for climate change based on ecosystem phenomics. The association will also help in undertaking specific joint research projects and capacity-building workshops in the areas of Systematic Zoology and Conservation to ensure the greater long-term conservation of animal genetic resources in the Thar region.
ZSI is the largest repository of Fauna in the entire South and Southeast Asia region. ZSI is the premier institution on animal taxonomy in India under the Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change of the Government of India.

India Wins 34th International Biology Olympiad

In a remarkable achievement, India emerged as the overall winner at the 34th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) held in Al Ain, UAE. The Indian student team clinched an unprecedented all-gold performance, securing the top position on the medals tally for the first time.
Throughout the competition, the participants underwent a comprehensive series of six tests. The initial two tests, conducted on computers, focused on theoretical knowledge. These tests covered a wide range of subjects such as anatomy, animal and plant physiology, cell science, microbiology, molecular biology, genetics, ecology, behavior, and biosystems. The remaining four examinations involved practical experiments, specifically in the fields of biochemistry, plant molecular biology, bioinformatics, and ecology, along with an ethical component.
The Indian team's outstanding performance at the IBO 2023 reflected their exceptional knowledge, skills, and hard work. With a total of four gold medals, India stood at the pinnacle of success. This resounding triumph marks the first time that India has achieved an all-gold performance at the IBO.
India and Singapore emerged as the leading nations, securing an impressive total of four gold medals each. China, Chinese Taipei, and the future Olympic delegation claimed the second position with three gold medals. Notably, the UAE celebrated its inaugural triumph in the International Biology Olympiad, as Reem Rashid Alnaqbi, an Emirati student, earned a well-deserved bronze medal.
