IIT Guwahati Launches India's Largest Drone Pilot Training Organisation
Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati in collaboration with EduRade, a brand owned by RC HobbyTech Solutions Pvt. Ltd., and incubated at IIT Guwahati Research Park, launched India's largest Remote Pilot Training Organisation (RPTO), spanning 18 acres and boasting the capability to fly 9 medium-class drones simultaneously. The primary objective of this RPTO is to promote the advancement of drone technology in India. Additionally, it aligns with the vision of the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, to establish India as a global drone hub by 2030, thereby contributing to the 'Namo Drone Didi' initiative.
The launch of IIT Guwahati RPTO symbolises the Institute's dedication to transforming drone training, aiming to equip individuals with essential expertise.
In a bold move aimed at revolutionising the educational landscape, the Madhya Pradesh government announced a groundbreaking initiative – the introduction of a 'bag-less school' policy. This policy would be implemented once a week from the upcoming academic session of 2024-25, marks a significant departure from traditional educational norms and underscores the government's commitment to student welfare and holistic development.
Central to this initiative is the establishment of clear weight limits for students' school bags, as outlined in a notice issued by the state government. The weight limits vary according to students' respective classes, ranging from 1.6 to 2.2 kg for classes 1 and 2, to 2.5 to 4.5 kg for classes 9 and 10.

IIT-Madras Gets CEO of Centre of Excellence in Sports Science and Analytics
In a move towards fostering "innovation in sports technology," the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) appointed Ramesh Kumar, former ESPN vice president as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Centre of Excellence in Sports Science and Analytics (CESSA).
The CESSA at IIT Madras aims to be a global platform dedicated to advancing sports technology, delivering products and solutions to enhance athlete performance, and promoting general fitness and health, as per a press release issued by the institute.
Ramesh Kumar, an alumnus of IIT Madras, brings over three decades of industry experience, including close to 24 years in the sports industry. He has played a key role in driving digital leadership, innovation, and growth for ESPNcricinfo.
Dharmendra Pradhan Inaugurates India's First Skill India Centre in Sambalpur, Odisha

The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIM Kozhikode) in association with ed-tech learning platform Emeritus announced the launch of the Chief Marketing and Growth Officer programme. IIT Madras Hosts 'National CSR Summit'
The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) organised the IIT Madras National CSR Summit - 'Building India 2047 – Technology for Better Tomorrow' on the campus with a focus on 'Technology-Driven Social Impact'.
The flagship CSR Summit brought together stalwarts from corporate India to address prevailing societal challenges and enable collaboration through scalable and sustainable technological solutions towards 'Viksit Bharat @2047.'
The event saw participation from industry, PSUs, corporate firms and business leaders from across the country. The inaugural IIT Madras CSR Awards (2023) were presented during the summit, which was graced by Chief Guest Dr Palanivel Thiagarajan, Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services, Government of Tamil Nadu, alongside faculty, researchers, and students of the Institute.
Uttar Pradesh Receives Grants of Rs. 740 crore for Higher Education
Uttar Pradesh received the largest grant in the nation, approximately Rs. 740 crore, under different categories through the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan. This funding is earmarked to bolster research quality in the state's universities, foster innovation, and refurbish dilapidated structures within older educational institutions.
The allocated grant aims to improve the quality of higher educational institutions in Uttar Pradesh, ensuring they adhere to prescribed parameters and standards. Through the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan Yojana, funding has been allocated for establishing new government model colleges in underserved regions to meet identified minimum Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) requirements.
The objective of the scheme is to offer financial assistance to higher education institutions across states, fostering equitable development. By 2026, the target is to raise the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) to 35 per cent.
IP University Vice Chancellor Mahesh Verma Assumes Additional Role at DPSRU
Lieutenant Governor V. K. Saxena appointed Mahesh Verma, the Vice-Chancellor of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, to assume the additional responsibility of overseeing Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University (DPSRU).
The announcement was made regarding Saxena's directive to dismiss DPSRU Vice-Chancellor Ramesh Goyal in relation to an alleged faculty recruitment scam at the university between 2017 and 2019.
