Tamil Nadu Police Receives President's Colour from Venkaiah Naidu

  • In an event at Rajarathinam Stadium in Chennai, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin received the renowned "President's Colours" for the Tamil Nadu Police from Vice-President of India M. Venkaiah Naidu. One of the very few law enforcement agencies in the nation to be awarded the coveted "President's Colours" is the Tamil Nadu Police. To commemorate the achievement, Mr. Stalin declared that each police officer in the service would get a medal.
  • Tamil Nadu is the only State in the country to have an exclusive Idol Wing, a unit dedicated to investigating into cases of theft or loss of cultural artefacts such as idols, paintings and other treasures of the nation's heritage.
  • The President's Colours is a recognition of services rendered by police personnel during the past 160 years. The Police Department was established in 1856 in Chennai, then known as Madras and in 1859 a police Act for the city was enacted.

Narendra Singh Tomar Gives Agriculture Infrastructure Fund Awards

  • Union Agriculture Minister for the Government of India, Narendra Singh Tomar gave out Agriculture Infrastructure Fund Awards in New Delhi. As a specific Central Government programme, the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund was introduced two years ago as part of the expansive Aatmanirbhar Bharat Package. For investments in the development of post-harvest management infrastructure and community farming assets, it offers a medium-long term credit facility.
  • As per reports, out of 23,000 plus applications received on the integrated portal of Agri Infra Fund, 13,700 applicants have been sanctioned over Rs. 10,000 crore. The sanctioned projects cover warehouses, assaying units, primary processing units, custom hiring centres, sorting and grading units, and cold-store and cold-chain projects.

DSF Institutes First of its Kind Dinesh Shahra Lifetime Award for Excellence in Music

  • Dinesh Shahra Foundation (DSF) took a major stride in its efforts to promote soulful Indian music among the masses.
  • The Foundation instituted a first-of-its-kind 'Dinesh Shahra Lifetime Award' for Excellence in Music. The initiative is supported by the Indian Arts & Cultural Society.
  • The Announcement of this novel recognition was made by Dinesh Shahra, Trustee -DSF, during a cultural event titled "Mausiqui' in Mumbai. Several stalwarts from the field of music, such as Padmashree Satish Vyas, Ustad Kamal Sabri, Shri Kuldeep Singh, Shri Jaswinder, Smt Anuradha Pal, Shahbaaz Khan and other dignitaries were present at the occasion.

Canadian Scholar Receives ICCR's 'Distinguished Indologist for 2021' Award

  • A Canadian scholar was awarded the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) Distinguished Indologist for 2021.
  • Jeffrey Armstrong was presented the award in a ceremony by Manish, India's consul-general in Vancouver.
  • The citation for the award stated that it was conferred upon Armstrong "in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the study/teaching/research in India's philosophy, thought, history, art, culture, Indian languages, literature, civilisation, society, etc".
  • Mr. Armstrong became the seventh recipient of this award, and joins the earlier recipients from Germany, China, Japan, UK, South Korea and USA.
  • The annual award was instituted in 2015 during the First World Indology Conference hosted by the then President of India bringing prominent Indologists from world over to a single platform with Indian scholars to deliberate upon the scope of promoting Indian studies abroad. The award is conferred upon a foreign scholar for his/her outstanding contribution in study, teaching and research in any of the fields of Indian Studies.
  • ICCR was founded in 1950 by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, independent India's first Education Minister.

Rashtriya Khanij Puraskar 2022

  • The Rashtriya Khanij Puruskar was introduced by the Union Ministry of Mines. It is a national award to promote and facilitate mining all over the country. The Rashtriya Khanij Puraskar 2022 was introduced to encourage the states that take the initiative in the exploration, auction, and operationalization of mineral blocks.
  • There are three categories of minerals to which the Rashtriya Khanij Puraskar will be awarded. The awards for the year 2018-2020 and 2020-2021 were given during the 6th National Conclave on Mines & Minerals. A total of Rs. 18 crore was awarded as prize money to different states.
  • Gujarat received the 1st prize in Rashtriya Khanij Puraskar for the auction of Minor Minerals from Hon'ble Home Minister Shri Amit Shah.

Winston Churchill Leadership Award to Ukraine's President

  • British Prime Minister Boris Johnson presented Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy with the Sir Winston Churchill Leadership Award, drawing comparisons between the two leaders in times of crises.
  • Zelenskyy accepted the award by video link during a ceremony at Johnson's London office that was attended by members of the Churchill family, Ukrainian Ambassador Vadym Prystaiko and Ukrainians who have received training from British soldiers.
  • The Churchill leadership award was first presented in 2006. Past recipients include Prince Charles, former British Prime Ministers Margaret Thatcher and John Major, and former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.
