Unemployment Allowance for Graduates in Karnataka

  • Congress announced 'Yuva Nidhi' to provide an unemployment allowance of Rs. 3000 every month for unemployed, graduated youths for two years in Karnataka.
  • At the 'Yuva Kranti Samavesha' in Belgaum, INC promised to provide 'Yuva Nidhi' through which unemployed youth would get Rs 3000 every month for every unemployed youth with a graduate degree and Rs. 1500 every month for every unemployed youth holding a diploma.
  • Following up on its first three guarantees of -- 'Gruha Jyoti' for 200 units of free electricity per month for all households, 'Gruha Laxmi' for Rs. 2000 per month for every woman head of household, and 'Anna Bhagya' for 10 kg rice for every member of the family -- the INC announced 'Yuva Nidhi' for the welfare of the unemployed youth of the state.

Fifth Poshan Pakhwada Celebrations Begin

  • The Ministry of Women and Child Development is celebrating the fifth Poshan Pakhwada from March 20 to April 3, 2023 with various activities nationwide. The Pakhwada aims to raise awareness about the importance of nutrition and promote healthy eating habits through Jan Andolan and Jan Bhagidari.
  • Poshan Abhiyaan, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March 2018, has been instrumental in ensuring people's participation and bringing the discourse on nutrition to the forefront. Poshan Abhiyan was launched with the aim to improve nutritional outcomes in a holistic manner. Behavioral change at individual and community level is an important component to achieve the desired goals of a Kuposhan-mukt Bharat.
  • Every year, Poshan Pakhwada is celebrated in the month of March for 15 days. Similarly, the month of September is celebrated as Rashtriya Poshan Maah, across the country. The Poshan Maah and Pakhwada celebrated so far have witnessed wide participation and enthusiasm from all States/UTs, frontline functionaries, converging Ministries as well as public at large. Close to 2.96 crore activities were held across the country in the last Poshan Pakhwada 2022.
  • The theme of this year's Poshan Pakhwada 2023 is 'Nutrition for All: Together Towards a Healthy India'.

The C-20 India Inception Meeting Held in Nagpur

  • In Maharashtra, Nagpur hosted the Civil20 India (C-20) Inception meeting from March 20 to 21. C-20 is one of the empowered groups, working under the ambit of G-20 Secretariat, which provides a platform for Civil Society Organisations around the world to voice the people's aspirations to the world leaders in G20. Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi, Spiritual leader Mata Amritanandmayi were present in the inaugural ceremony of the meeting organized in Nagpur.
  • Around 250 delegates and 30 speakers participated in the two-day inception meeting. The delegates also visited the wildlife in Pench Tiger Reserve of Nagpur along with other tourist places.

'Sagar Parikrama Phase IV' Concludes in Karnataka

  • The fourth phase of the Sagar Parikrama program concluded on March 19. The program covered three coastal districts of Karnataka – Uttara Kannada, Udupi, and Dakshina Kannada. Purushottam Rupala, the Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, along with state ministers and stakeholders, were present at the event. During the program, progressive fishermen were recognized for their achievements related to various schemes, such as Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), Kisan Credit Card (KCC) and State Scheme.
  • Sagar Parikrama Phase-I started on March 5, 2022 from Mandvi, Gujarat to Okha-Dwarka, and concluded at Porbandar on March 6 covering 3 locations. The programme was a huge success, with more than 5,000 people physically attending the event.
  • Sagar Parikrama Phase-II was held on September 23-25 2022 and covered seven locations.
  • Sagar Parikrama Phase-III was held on February 19-21 2023 and covered coastal districts of Gujarat and Maharashtra.
  • Sagar Parikrama is an initiative to organize a sea voyage across all coastal states and union territories to support fishermen, fish farmers, and other stakeholders. It aims to address their concerns and facilitate their economic development by implementing various fisheries schemes and programs like PMMSY.

Rajasthan Govt. Announces Creation of 19 New Districts, 3 New Divisions

  • Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced his government's decision to form 19 new districts and three new divisions in the state, earmarking Rs. 2,000 crore for development of infrastructure for them.
  • This is the first time since 2008 that new districts are being carved out, taking the number of districts to 50 in the state.
  • The announcement was made in the Rajasthan assembly, which also passed the 2023-24 Budget with a voice vote.
  • The three new divisions will be in Banswara, Pali and Sikar.
  • The new districts are Anoopgarh, which was part of Ganganagar; Balotra (Barmer); Beawar (Ajmer); Kekri (Ajmer); Deeg (Bharatpur); Deedwana-Kuchaman (Nagaur); Dudu (Jaipur); Gangapur City (Sawai Madhopur); Jaipur North; Jaipur South; Jodhpur East; Jodhpur West; Kotputli-Behror (Jaipur-Alwar); Khertal (Alwar); Neem kaThana (Sikar); Phalodi (Jodhpur); Salumber (Udaipur); Sanchore (Jalore); and Shahpura (Bhilwara).

PM Modi Inaugurates Global Millets Conference

  • PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the Global Millets (Shree Anna) Conference at Subramaniam Hall, NASC Complex, IARI Campus, PUSA New Delhi.
  • The agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ministry signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the World Food Programme (WFP) of the United Nations during the Global Millets (Shree Anna) Conference, according to the statement released by Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. The MoU between WFP and the Government of India for cooperation was signed for 2023-2027.
  • Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, lauded the work of WFP in promoting food self-sufficiency and supporting governmental and global efforts to ensure long-term solutions to the challenge of hunger.
  • At the conference, Tomar also thanked the ministers for being a part of the global conference organized by India with the aim of promoting Shree Anna, under the International Year of Millets (IYM).
  • Union Agriculture Minister Tomar held bilateral meetings with the ministers of Guyana, Suriname, Zambia, Mauritius and Sri Lanka.

International Ayurvet Conclave Inaugurated at Haridwar

  • International Ayurvet conclave on the theme 'Veterinary and Ayurveda', was inaugurated at Rishikul campus of Ayurvedic University at Haridwar. The event concluded on March 19.
  • Addressing the seminar, Union Minister of State for Animal husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries Sanjiv Baliyan said that Ayurveda is being used for treatment of animals from times immemorial. He also mentioned that government has taken initiative to validate use of Ayurveda in the treatment of animals. He said that attempt will be made to include this subject in the syllabus of various universities.

PM Modi Announces Seven MITRA Mega Textile Parks

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that 'PM MITRA mega textile parks' will be set up in Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, and asserted that they will attract massive investments and create lakhs of jobs.
  • PM MITRA mega textile parks will boost the textiles sector in line with 5F (Farm to Fibre to Factory to Fashion to Foreign) vision.

International SME Convention, 2023 Held in New Delhi

  • The 3rd annual edition of the International SME Convention 2023 was organised in New Delhi. The main focus areas of the convention were India's major four Sunrise Sectors, which are Cleantech and Green Energy, Manufacturing, Services Sector and Agro Food Processing and Agri Implements sector. More than fifteen hundred participants attended the convention. Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Narayan Rane inaugurated the three-day SME Convention.
  • The convention was jointly organised by the Ministry of MSME and Ministry of External Affairs, along with the Government of Madhya Pradesh as a key state partner and the Government of Uttar Pradesh as an associate state partner.

Ayush Ministry, MoRD sign MoU for Skilling of Rural Youth and Empowering Women

  • Ministry of Rural Development signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Ministry of Ayush for skilling of rural youth and empowering women. It is a historic step to make Lakhpati Didis, women with annual earnings of one lakh rupees and more, from the Self-Help Groups. Rural Development Minister Giriraj Singh said that his Ministry is working on a proactive mode to achieve the target of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to have 10 crore SHG members by 2024. As per him, there were 2.35 crore SHG members in May 2014.

India and World Bank Sign Loan Agreement for Green NH Corridors Project

  • India and the World Bank signed a loan agreement for the construction of the Green National Highway Corridors Project in four States. The states are Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. The agreement was signed for the construction of 781 kilometres in these states, with loan assistance of 500 million dollars.
  • The objective of the green highway corridor is to demonstrate safe and green highways keeping in view climate resilience and use of green technologies by incorporating the provisions of conservation of natural resources.

Modi, Hasina Jointly Inaugurate India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline via video-conferencing.
  • This is the first cross border energy pipeline between India and Bangladesh, built at an estimated cost of Rs. 377 crore, of which the Bangladesh portion of the pipeline built at a cost of approximately Rs. 285 crore, was borne by the Indian government under grant assistance.
  • The Pipeline has a capacity to transport 1 Million Metric Ton Per Annum (MMTPA) of High-Speed Diesel (HSD). It will supply high speed diesel initially to seven districts in northern Bangladesh.

India Hosts Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Tourism Ministers' Meeting

  • India hosted the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Tourism Ministers' Meeting (TMM) March 17 and 18, 2023 in Kashi (Varanasi), which was designated as the first cultural capital of the SCO. India is the current chair of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
  • India assumed the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organisation) Chairship for 2023.
  • During TMM, Tourism Joint Action Plan on the Development of Cooperation in Tourism among SCO member countries was adopted. The TMM was preceded by 2nd Tourism Expert Working Group Meeting from March 14 to 15, 2023, which discussed and finalised Tourism Joint Action before being adopted at the SCO Tourism Ministers' meet on March 17, 2023.
  • The eight member countries of SCO represent around 42% of the world population and 25% of the global GDP.
