Union Home Minister Inaugurates National Mega Conclave on FPO

  • Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah inaugurated the 'National Mega Conclave on FPO' in the cooperative sector and released the action plan for the formation of 1,100 new Farmers Producers' Organisations by PACS in the national capital.
  • Amit Shah apprised the gathering that Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to set up a separate Ministry of Cooperation with a different vision.
  • Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation called upon all the FPOs of the country to continue working in the same manner and keep integrating PACS alongside.

Narendra Tomar is BJP Madhya Pradesh Poll Convenor

  • The BJP appointed Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar the convenor of Madhya Pradesh elections.
  • The appointment was approved by BJP chief JP Nadda and is effective immediately.
  • Tomar, a veteran Madhya Pradesh BJP leader, would face an uphill task of guiding poll machinery amid a long anti-incumbency against CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan who has been CM four times since 2005.

OBC Leader Rajbhar Back in NDA

  • Former NDA ally Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party returned to the NDA fold ahead of the July 18 meeting of the National Democratic Alliance. O. P. Rajbhar, a senior OBC leader, met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and announced the return to NDA.
  • Rajbhar, who contested the 2022 UP elections in alliance with the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party, had quit Yogi Adityanath-led Cabinet in the BJP's first term in UP.
  • The development came as a booster for the BJP which is working to expand NDA ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha elections especially in UP, Maharashtra and Bihar which account for 80, 48 and 40 parliamentary seats, respectively.

Naveen Patnaik Announces Projects Eyeing Western Odisha Development Ahead of Polls

  • Mr. Patnaik declared to build 2,000 meeting halls as part of the Mukhyamantri Sabha Gruha Scheme in western Odisha which is known to be a stronghold of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
  • The Assembly halls, which are part of the state's 5T initiative would significantly enhance the social and cultural life of western Odisha region. He inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for several projects Rd. 33.58 crore.
  • "The role of western Odisha is critical in the overall development of the State. The region is developing in agriculture, industry, mining, education, and art and culture. Efforts are underway to promote tourism in the region, including the ongoing transformation work of Maa Samaleswari, Harishankar, and Nrusingnath temples. Steps have been initiated for development other temples and infrastructure in the region," said Odisha CM.

India to Host ASEAN Countries Conference on Traditional Medicines (16)

  • India will serve as the host for the ASEAN Countries Conference on Traditional Medicines on July 20, 2023 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. A total of 75 participants will convene at this one-day conference which will include international delegates from eight ASEAN countries, with an additional two international delegates participating virtually. The purpose of the conference is to facilitate brainstorming sessions and idea sharing on the topic of Traditional Medicines.
  • With support from the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian Mission to ASEAN, and the ASEAN Secretariat, the Ministry of Ayush is prepared to host the Conference.
  • The objective of this conference is to enhance collaboration between India and ASEAN countries by sharing best practices and establishing a roadmap for future cooperation in the field of Traditional Medicines. It will also provide a platform to exchange information on the recent developments in the regulatory framework for promoting Traditional Medicine in ASEAN member states.

Harshvardhan Bansal New President of NAREDCO Delhi Chapter

  • The National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) announced establishment of its Delhi chapter. Harshvardhan Bansal, Director of Unity Group, was appointed as the president of the NAREDCO Delhi Chapter. NAREDCO is a leading national organization that represents the real estate sector, it works under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
  • National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) has also appointed P. K. Gupta, the current CMD of NBCC, as the Chairman, while Vineet Kanwar, the Group Executive Director of DLF, was designated as the Vice Chairman. Additionally, Gaurav Jain, the CEO of India Infracorp Bahrain, was selected as the President Elect. The objective of NAREDCO Delhi chapter is to establish a favourable atmosphere in the real estate sector.
  • At present, NAREDCO has established state chapters in Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Rajasthan. Following the prosperous launch of the Delhi chapter, NAREDCO is actively engaged in the process of establishing a chapter in Uttarakhand.

India Mobile Congress 2023 to be Held in October

  • The ministry of information technology and communications announced that the seventh edition of the India Mobile Congress (IMC), co-hosted by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) will be held from October 27 to 29, 2023 at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.
  • The event will be themed around 'Global Digital Innovation' and will showcase 6G, advancements in 5G networks, the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in telecommunications, edge computing, and developments related to India Stack.
  • IMC 2023 would also highlight related technology domains such as broadcast technology, satellite communication, manufacture of semiconductors. IMC 2023 will introduce several B2G and B2B forums and industry round tables, events to facilitate student engagement, and global buyer forums.

India Gets its 36th and Tamil Nadu its First Flying Training School

  • India's aviation education landscape witnessed a significant boost with the approval of the first Flying Training Organisation (FTO) in Tamil Nadu by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). EKVI Air Training Organization Pvt Ltd was granted permission to operate from Salem Airport.
  • This is the 36th Flying Training Organization in the country that DGCA has approved.

Vizhinjam Railway Tunnel, Third Longest Tunnel in Country, to Adopt Austrian Tunnelling Method

  • The third longest railway tunnel in the country connecting the under-construction Vizhinjam International Seaport being developed by the Adani Port with the railway mainline at Balaramapuram near Thiruvananthapuram will use the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM) for undertaking the tunnelling works. The work will take 36 months for the completion of tunnelling work alone plus three months of initial installation work and another 3 months for track lining and commissioning, taking a total of 42 months for the entire work.

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Inaugurates DGNSS ''Sagar Sampark'

  • In an initiative aimed at boosting the digitalisation in the maritime sector, the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated an indigenous Differential Global Navigation Satellite System (DGNSS) called Sagar Sampark. It is an enhancement system that "corrects the errors and inaccuracies in the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and provides more accurate positioning information.
  • The launch of Sagar Sampark at six locations will assist the Director General of Lighthouses and Lightships (DGLL) to provide radio aids to ships for marine navigation.
  • The ministry said that the made-in-India navigation system will provide accurate information to the ships for safe navigation and will reduce the risk of collisions, groundings, and accidents in the port and harbour areas. This will lead to the safe and efficient movement of vessels.

Kui Language Inclusion in 8th Schedule Gets Approval of Odisha Government

  • The Odisha state cabinet approved a proposal to recommend the inclusion of the Kui language in the eighth schedule of the Constitution of India. Inclusion of Kui in the eighth schedule will help in the preservation, promotion and propagation of the language and culture.
  • Besides, publication, creation of content and recognition will get momentum. It will create an eco-system to facilitate research and studies anchored around the preservation, promotion and propagation of the Kui language. The cabinet maintained that more than seven lakh Kui-speaking indigenous people will benefit from the decision. Besides, it will also have no financial implications.
  • Kui is a South-Eastern Dravidian language spoken by the Khonds (also spelt Kondha and Kandha) community.
  • It is primarily spoken in the state of Odisha. It is traditionally written using the Odia script.
  • It is closely related to other languages in the Dravidian family such as Gondi and Kuvi.
  • It was also referred to as the Kuinga language during the historical period.

BJP Names Greater Cooch Behar Proponent as its Rajya Sabha Candidate from Bengal

  • The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) named Ananta Rai, who heads a faction of the Greater Cooch Behar Peoples' Association (GCPA), as its Rajya Sabha candidate from West Bengal.
  • The BJP made the announcement amid broad speculations that it could send Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty or former BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly to the Upper House.
  • Anant Maharaj will be the BJP's first West Bengal candidate in Rajya Sabha.
