Kovind-led Panel to Seek Parties' Views on 'One Nation, One Election'

  • Led by former President Ramnath Kovind, the panel on "One Nation, One Election" decided to invite political parties and the Law Commission to solicit their views on synchronised polls across India.
  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal, former Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, former Finance Commission Chairman NK Singh, former Lok Sabha Secretary General Subhash C. Kashyap and former Chief Vigilance Commissioner Sanjay Kothari attended the meeting. Senior advocate Harish Salve joined the meeting virtually while Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, leader of the single largest party in the Opposition, was not present at the meeting. After being named, Chowdhury had declined to serve on the committee.

India, Pakistan Attend Meeting in Vienna on Indus Water Dispute

  • India took part in a two-day meeting in Vienna that was part of the proceedings aimed at resolving a dispute between New Delhi and Islamabad on the Kishenganga and Ratle hydroelectric projects in Jammu and Kashmir.
  • The meeting in the Austrian capital city was convened by a neutral expert.
  • Senior advocate Harish Salve was present at the meeting as India's lead counsel in the matter.
  • The meeting was convened by the neutral expert appointed on India's request under the aegis of the Indus Waters Treaty and was attended by representatives of India and Pakistan.

Rajasthan Tops the List in Solar Water Pump Installations

  • Rajasthan topped the list in solar water pump installations, a state agriculture department official has claimed.
  • More than 62,000 farmers have directly benefited from the scheme introduced by the Ashok Gehlot government four-and-a-half years ago.
  • According to the government initiative, farmers in Rajasthan are encouraged to install solar pumps for irrigation, instead of relying on electricity connections and diesel powered plants.

Fourth G20 Infrastructure Working Group Meeting Starts in Madhya Pradesh

  • Under India's G-20 presidency, a two-day, fourth meeting of the G-20 Infrastructure Working Group began at Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh.
  • This is the last meeting of the Infrastructure Working Group under the Indian G20 Presidency. It has brought together more than 54 delegates from the G20 member countries, guest countries, and international organizations invited by India. The forum is deliberating on the key issues in continuation of the discussions held during the previous three IWG meetings. The meeting is being hosted and chaired by the Ministry of Finance, Government of India along with Australia and Brazil as co-chairs.

President Inaugurates First Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show

  • President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the first Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show in India Expo Centre and Mart in Greater Noida. The trade show is being held from September 21 to 25. Governor of state Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister of UP Yogi Adityanath and Industrial Minister Nand Gopal Nandi were also be present on the inaugural function.
  • Over 2000 exhibitors will showcase their products across a wide spectrum of sectors, including automobiles, handicrafts, healthcare, food processing, pharmaceuticals, dairy, electronics, and e-commerce.
  • State government departments and institutions, along with Mumbai Dabbawala, will conduct informative sessions on various business activities. Additionally, 108 new start-ups are also participating in the show.

India Wins Bid to Host 17th International Congress on Chemistry of Cement

  • India has won the bid to host the prestigious International Congress on the Chemistry of Cement (ICCC) at New Delhi in 2027.
  • India's leading research and academic institutes, National Council for Cement and Building Materials (NCCBM) along with IIT Delhi successfully presented the India's bid before the Steering Committee members of the Conference during the 16th ICCC at Bangkok, Thailand. Besides India, other bidders were from Switzerland and UAE. The Indian bid was presented by L. P. Singh, Director General, NCCBM, S. K. Chaturvedi, Joint Director, NCCBM and Shashank Bishnoi, Professor (Civil Engg.), IIT Delhi.
  • The International Congress on the Chemistry of Cement is the largest and most prestigious event of its kind which reviews the progress of research in the area of Cement and Concrete. The congresses have been held generally at intervals of four to six years since 1918, providing a strong and fruitful link between the academic world and the cement industry. The 9th Congress was organized at New Delhi in 1992 by NCCBM and the present 16th ICCC was held at Bangkok, Thailand from 18-22 September 2023.

President Droupadi Murmu Inaugurates Conference of National Human Rights Institutions of Asia Pac...

  • The President of India, Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the two-day conference of National Human Rights Institutions of the Asia Pacific region at Plenary Hall of Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The conference was being organized by the National Human Rights Commission, India, in collaboration with the Asia Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions. This included the Annual General Meeting (AGM) followed by the Biennial Conference, which celebrated the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights (UDHR) and 30 years of National Human Rights Institutions and the Paris Principles, with a sub-theme on the environment and climate change.
