Rajasthan Govt. Issues Order for Conducting Caste Survey in State

  • The Rajasthan government issued an order to conduct a caste survey in the state. With this order Rajasthan became the second state to conduct cast survey. According to the order issued by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, the state government will conduct the survey with its own resources. The survey will collect information on the social, economic, and educational status of all citizens of Rajasthan. The survey is expected to provide valuable data on the caste composition of the state's population, as well as the social, economic, and educational disparities between different castes. The data collected from the survey can be used to design and implement policies and programs that benefit all castes and communities in Rajasthan.

Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan on 4-day Visit to India

  • Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan began a four-day visit to India with an aim to bolster bilateral relations.
  • The presidential visit from Tanzania to India is taking place after a span of more than eight years.
  • Hassan is scheduled to hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • The Tanzanian president will also participate in a business and investment forum in Delhi on October 10.

Ahead Of Polls, Rajasthan Gets 3 More Districts, Total Count Reaches 53

  • Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced the formation of three new districts in poll-bound Rajasthan, taking their total number to 53.
  • The announcement came before the Model Code of Conduct takes effect in the state. The Model Code comes into force when the dates for assembly elections, due later this year, are formally announced.
  • The Rajasthan government had earlier notified the formation of 17 new districts following Cabinet approval to take their total number to 50.
  • The 17 new districts formally came into being in August 2023. Now, with the announcement to create three districts, Malpura, Sujangarh and Kuchaman City, the number of districts in Rajasthan will further rise to 53.

India, Saudi Arabia Sign MoU on Grid Connection and Green Hydrogen

  • India and Saudi Arabia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for grid interconnections, green/clean hydrogen, and the supply chain for the same. The MoU was signed by the Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy, R. K. Singh, and the Minister of Energy, Government of Saudi Arabia, Abdulaziz bin Salman Al-Saud on the sidelines of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Climate Week in Riyadh.
  • This MoU aims to establish a general framework for cooperation between the two countries in the field of electrical interconnection; exchange of electricity during peak times and emergencies; co-development of projects; co-production of green/clean hydrogen and renewable energy; and also establishing secure, reliable and resilient supply chains of materials used in the green/clean hydrogen and renewable energy sector.
  • Singh, who participated in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Climate Week 2023, urged the MENA countries to join the Global Biofuel Alliance to bolster international cooperation in sustainable biofuels and fully harness the potential of the Alliance.

New Drone Rules 2023 for Pilots Notified

  • The Ministry of Civil Aviation notified the new Drone (Amendment) Rules 2023 for drone pilots.
  • The move aims to further liberalise, promote and facilitate drone operations across the country and make India a global drone hub by 2030.
  • After the amendment, it has now been made clear that a government issued proof of identity and a government issued proof of address, i.e. Voter ID, Ration Card or Driving License can now be accepted to apply for a Remote Pilot Certificate if the drone pilot does not have a passport.
  • The prerequisite of having a passport was becoming a hurdle for aspiring drone pilots especially in the agricultural sector across rural India.
  • According to drone regulator DGCA, no individual other than a holder of a valid remote pilot certificate enlisted on the digital sky platform will operate an unmanned aircraft system in India. However, no Remote Pilot Certificate is required when the drone is of small to medium-size up to 2kg for non-commercial drone use.

Canada Evacuates Diplomats from Delhi to Southeast Asia

  • With New Delhi asking Canada to withdraw 41 out its 62 diplomats in India by October 10 to achieve a parity in the number of diplomatic staff in each country, Ottawa has reportedly evacuated its staff from its High Commission to Southeast Asia, according to a media report.
  • As per report, Canada evacuated the majority of its diplomatic staff from India and shifted them to either Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) or Singapore.
  • The news came amid claims by Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly that the government was engaged diplomatically with India on the issue of staff reduction.

Centre Bans Jailed Separatist's Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party

  • The Centre banned jailed separatist Shabir Ahmad Shah's Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP) for five years for its 'anti-India' and 'pro-Pakistan' activities.
  • The ban was ordered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
  • Founded in 1998 by Shah, a prominent separatist leader in Jammu and Kashmir, the JKDFP was a constituent of the separatist amalgam Hurriyat Conference. After the division of the Hurriyat Conference in 2003, the JKDFP became a part of the hardline faction headed by Syed Ali Shah Geelani then.

Centre Approves Use of Forest Land for Ambitious Ken-Betwa Link Project

  • The Centre approved the use of forest land for the ambitious Ken-Betwa Link project. Madhya Pradesh (MP) Chief Minister (CM) Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that work on the project will speed up after the approval from the Union forest and environment ministry.
  • The project will irrigate 1.062 million hectares of the Bundelkhand region of MP, which will see Assembly elections by the year-end. The CM said that the project will provide great relief to the water-scarce Bundelkhand.
  • This will provide drinking water to about 6.2 million people and two electricity projects – 103 Megawatt (Mw) hydropower and 27 Mw solar plants – will be set up under this river-linking initiative. Two other projects of 72 Mw capacity will also be put up.

Race for Tribal Votes in Poll-bound Madhya Pradesh

  • Ahead of Assembly elections later this year, the race for Scheduled Tribes (ST) votes heated up in Madhya Pradesh with star campaigners of both the ruling BJP and opposition Congress feting local tribal heroes, besides wooing women electors.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in tribal-dominated Jabalpur where he laid the foundation stone of Gond warrior queen Rani Durgavati's Memorial and attacked the Congress for sufficing to sing praises of one family while ignoring all other national heroes.
  • Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was in another ST-dominated district, Dhar, where she unveiled the statue of tribal hero Tantya Mama, a revered Bhil revolutionary who fought the British.

Amit Shah Calls for Uniform Anti-terrorism Structure under NIA in All States

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated a two-day anti-terror conference organised by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the national capital.
  • During his address, Shah called for dismantling the entire terror ecosystem.
  • He said that Model Anti-terrorism Structure should be established under the purview of NIA, the hierarchy, structure, and SoPs of Investigation of all anti-terrorism agencies in all states should be made uniform for better coordination between central and state agencies.
  • All anti-terrorism agencies must adopt such a ruthless approach so that a new terrorist organisation cannot be formed. The task of NIA, ATS, and STF should not be limited to investigation but they should also think out of the box and take innovative measures to counter the terrorism, said Shah.

India, UAE Sign Pact to Increase Cooperation in Industries, Technologies

  • India and the UAE signed a Memorandum of Understanding on increasing cooperation in the field of industries and advanced technologies.
  • The MoU aims at strengthening and developing industries in both nations through investments, technology transfer and deployment of key technologies in industries, by benefitting from joint funds and mutual efforts.
  • It was signed between Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology of UAE Sultan Al Jaber.
  • The areas and fields of industrial and advanced technology cooperation include strengthening the supply chain resilience of industries, renewable and energy efficiency, health and life sciences, space systems, artificial intelligence, and Industry 4.0 enabling technologies.

50th India International Knit Fair to be Held from October 12 to 14

  • The India Knit Fair Association (IKFA) will organise the 50th edition of India International Knit Fair in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu from October 12 to 14.
  • Organised in association with the Apparel Export Promotion Council and the Tiruppur Exporters' Association, the theme for the event this year (2023) is 'Active & sportswear, Environmental Social Governance, Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Digitalization'.
  • Seventy exhibitors from Tiruppur, Chennai, Coimbatore, Karur, and Gujarat will take part in the fair.
  • Chairman of the Association, A. Sakthivel said that the IKFA tied up with Sourcing Consultants Association, Association of Buying Agents for Textiles, Brand Sourcing Leaders, and the NIFT Alumni. Leading buyers and their representatives from Europe, US, UK and other countries have been invited for the fair.
