Union Health Minister Inaugurates Health Food Street 'Prasadam' In MP's Ujjain

  • Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya inaugurated the country's first 'Healthy and Hygienic Food Street', 'Prasadam', at Neelkanth Van, Mahakal Lok in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. Prasadam will connect people in every corner of the country with pure and safe local and traditional food, Mandaviya said.
  • Spread over an area of 939 square metres with a total number of 19 shops, 'Prasadam' offers convenient and culturally rich dining options for the 1-1.5 lakh devotees who visit the Mahakaleshwar Temple daily.
  • Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, State and Minister of State for Public Health and Family Welfare Narendra Shivaji Patel attended the inauguration.

Chennai Tops as Best City for Indian Women

  • Chennai is the safest Indian city for working women, thanks to concerted efforts of the government and local organisations.
  • The Top Cities for Women in India (TCWI) report by diversity consultancy firm Avtar Group came up with two lists of Indian cities based on population. On the list of cities that are home to over a million people each, Chennai is followed by Bengaluru, Pune, Mumbai and Hyderabad, for building the most conducive environment for women's employment.
  • The study created a City Inclusion Score (CIS) for a list of predetermined cities. The CIS is a composite of three pillars: Social Inclusion Score (SIS), Industrial Inclusion Score (IIS), and Citizen Experience Score (CES).
  • The survey covered 113 cities in India to gauge their inclusivity and conduciveness to working women. The million-plus list had 49 cities, while the second list of cities with less than a million populace had 64 entries.
  • In the second category, Tiruchirappalli bagged the first spot, followed by Vellore, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, and Shimla.

Regional Conference on E-governance Inaugurated in Guwahati

  • A two-day regional conference on e-governance was inaugurated in Guwahati.
  • Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria inaugurated the conference and Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh addressed the inaugural session.
  • The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), in collaboration with Government of Assam involving eight North Eastern states and four states of Eastern region, organised the two-day Conference on January 9-10, 2024. This is the 26th Regional Conference convened by DARPG during the period 2014-2024.
  • The main objective of the conference is to bring national and state level public administration organisations on the same platform to share experiences in innovations in public administration, transforming future public solution for improving quality of life, good governance, e-governance, digital governance, etc.

Sonowal Chairs First Inland Waterways Development Council Meet

  • The Inland Waterways Authority of India, under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW), hosted the inaugural 'Inland Waterways Development Council' meeting in Kolkata.
  • The day-long meeting on board the vessel MV Ganga Queen, by Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and AYUSH, brought together key figures from across the waterways states and central government including Shripad Naik and Shantanu Thakur, Ministers of State for Ports, Shipping & Waterways.
  • Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal unveiled groundbreaking initiatives, including 'Harit Nauka - Guidelines for Green Transition of Inland Vessels' and the 'River Cruise Tourism Roadmap 2047', during the meeting.

Cabinet Approves MoU between India, Guyana on Cooperation in Hydrocarbons

  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, India and the Ministry of Natural Resources, Guyana, on cooperation in the hydrocarbon sector.
  • The proposed agreement covers the complete value chain of hydrocarbon sector including the sourcing of crude oil from Guyana, the participation of Indian companies in Exploration and Production (E&P) sector of Guyana, cooperation in the areas of crude oil refining, capacity building, strengthening bilateral trade, collaboration in natural gas sector, collaboration in developing regulatory policy frameworks in oil and gas sector in Guyana.
  • The agreement shall enter into force on the date of its signature, remain in force for a period of five years and be automatically renewed thereafter on a quinquennium basis unless either party gives the other party written notice three months in advance of its intention to terminate this understanding.

  • Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma allocated portfolios to the newly appointed ministers in his cabinet during a ceremony. The Chief Minister strategically retained eight key departments, including the pivotal Home and the Excise Departments along with the anti-corruption bureau, signalling a hands-on approach in critical areas.
  • Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari was entrusted with six diverse departments, prominently featuring the Finance Department, Tourism Department, and Women and Child Development, reflecting her broad responsibilities.
  • Deputy Chief Minister Prem Chand Bairwa assumed leadership in four significant departments, including the crucial Higher Education Department and the responsibility for Road Transport and Highways.
  • Cabinet Minister Kirodi Lal Meena took charge of the Agriculture and Rural Development portfolio, while Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore was appointed as the Minister for Industry and Commerce, Sports, and Youth Affairs. Gajendra Singh Khimsar secured the Health Ministry, and Madan Dilawar was entrusted with the crucial Education, Sanskrit Education, and Panchayati Raj departments.

Punjab Becomes First State to Map All Accident Prone Sites

  • Punjab became the first state in India to map all 784 accident black spots on the Mappls App, a navigation system developed by MapMyIndia. The announcement was made by Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav.
  • Citizens navigating using Mappls App will now receive voice alerts in Punjabi alerting the commuters about the black spot ahead, making Punjab the first state to map accident-prone sites as part of the road safety.
  • An accident black spot is a place where road traffic accidents have historically been concentrated.
  • MapmyIndia is an Indian technology company that builds digital map data, telematics services, location-based SaaS and GIS AI technologies. The company was founded by Rakesh and Rashmi Verma in 1995 and is headquartered at New Delhi with regional offices in Mumbai and Bengaluru and smaller offices across India. It also has international offices in the San Francisco Bay Area and Tokyo.

  • Sabyasachi Banerjee, an advocate and special public prosecutor practicing in the Calcutta High Court, was appointed as a member of the Commonwealth Expert Team (CET) assigned to observe the Bangladesh general elections, slated to be held on January 7.
  • Besides Banerjee, the team comprises eight other members from all over the world including former Jamaican Prime Minister Bruce Golding.
  • Banerjee achieved his law degree from University of Pune and was awarded the "best student advocate of India" by Thrissur Law College, Kerala in 2000.
  • He enrolled with the Delhi Bar Council in 2002 and has been practicing law for 21 years. He has appeared as a special public prosecutor for the Government of West Bengal.

Alka Lamba New Chief of Congress Women Wing

  • The Congress appointed former Delhi MLA Alka Lamba as its women's wing chief, replacing Netta D'Souza. Lamba was included as a special invitee to the Congress Working Committee some months ago.
  • A former president of the Delhi University Students' Union, Lamba quit the Congress and joined AAP in 2014. She became an MLA from Chandni Chowk Assembly constituency in 2015. Lamba, however, returned to the Congress in 2019.
  • The Congress also appointed former DUSU secretary Varun Choudhary as the president of the party's students wing NSUI.

Kerala CM Launches K-SMART App for Digital Access to Local Govt. Services

  • Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the K-SMART application, aiming to provide digital access to services offered by local self-government bodies through a unified platform across the state.
  • The Chief Minister said that the government's objective is to leverage advanced technology for the improvement of various sectors in society.
  • With the introduction of K-SMART (Kerala Solutions for Managing Administrative Reformation and Transformation), services provided by local self-government bodies will now be available at citizens' fingertips.

Czech PM to be Chief Guest at Vibrant Gujarat Summit

  • The Prime Minister of Czech Republic Petr Fiala is expected to be the Guest of Honour at the 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit to be held from January 10-12 in Gandhinagar. Besides PM Fiala, Timor-Leste's President José Ramos-Horta, President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Mozambique's President Filipe Nyusi will also be attending. The Prime Minister will open the event on January 10 in Gandhinagar.
  • The Czech Republic is also a partner country in the 10th Summit.
  • The biennial event has become a crucial platform for policymakers, diplomats, business leaders, investors, and corporates to foster collaborations, and partnerships and explore investment opportunities.
