US President Biden Designates Two New National Monuments in the American Southwest

The Biden administration established two new national monuments in the Southwest, a decision that will protect the Spirit Mountain area in Nevada and Castner Range in Texas from development.
The Spirit Mountain area, also known as Avi Kwa Ame, became the largest protected area under the administration so far and only the second monument designated to honour indigenous tribes while conserving public land.
Avi Kwa Ame is considered sacred by tribes including Mojave, Chemehuevi and Paiute. The area is also home to one of the world's largest Joshua tree forests and provides habitat and migration corridors for species such as desert bighorn sheep, desert tortoise and Gila monster.
The other designation, Castner Range, is located on Fort Bliss and served as a training and testing site for the U.S. Army during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War until it closed in 1966.
Protecting Castner Range connects the area with the Franklin Mountains State Park, which will provide habitat for wildlife including the golden eagle, Texas horned lizard and western burrowing owl. The area also contains cultural sites documenting the history of Native tribes.

India & Sri Lanka Inaugurate Exhibition 'Geoffrey Bawa' in New Delhi

India's External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, inaugurated the "Geoffrey Bawa: It is Essential To Be There" exhibition at the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi. The exhibition, which is a joint collaboration between the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi, the High Commission of Sri Lanka in New Delhi, and the Geoffrey Bawa Trust, showcases the architectural works of Sri Lanka's renowned architect, the late Geoffrey Bawa.
To commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Sri Lanka, the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi organised the "Geoffrey Bawa: It is Essential To Be There" exhibition. This is the first retrospective international exhibition of Bawa's architectural works since 2004, following exhibitions in Sri Lanka, the United Kingdom, North America, Australia, Brazil, Singapore, and Germany.

AAHAR 2023: Asia's Biggest International Food and Hospitality Fair in Delhi

Aahar 2023 organized with the support of the Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Agriculture and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), and other bodies, focus on unveiling the potential of the hospitality sector and exhibiting technologies, products and services to domestic and international buyers.
Aahar is India's largest four-day culinary show where hoteliers and restauranteurs, caterers and distributors come to source the best in culinary, hospitality and equipment and also guage the market trends.
Aahar 2023 was held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

Ministry of Jal Shakti Recommends 75 Water Heritage Sites

The Ministry of Jal Shakti had constituted a Committee to identify 75 Water Heritage Structure (WHS) in reference to 75 years of India's Independence.
The Committee recommended 75 water heritage structures, which include 5 Water Heritage structures from Gujarat and 4 Water Heritage structures from Andhra Pradesh respectively.
The maximum number of Water Heritage Structures were selected from Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu with 7 each. They were followed by Madhya Pradesh 6, Gujarat and Karnataks with 5 each.
In this connection, the "Jal-Itihas" sub-portal under the India-WRIS portal, showcasing the 75 WHS, was launched at the 1st All India State Ministers Conference on Water at Bhopal.
Jal Itihaas showcases some selected water heritage structures more than 100 years old.
India-WRIS portal is a web-enabled Water Resources Information System popularly known as India-WRIS.
It was initiated through a Memorandum of Understanding between the Central Water Commission (CWC), the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation (now Ministry of Jal Shakti) and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

Minister of State for Culture Arjun Ram Meghwal inaugurated the exhibition "Women and Nation Building: 1857 to the Republic" at the National Archives of India in New Delhi. The exhibition was held on the occasion of the 133rd Foundation Day celebrations of the National Archives of India.
