Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) for Central Government Employees Approved

  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) for central government employees. This scheme will be effective from April 1, 2025, and will benefit 23 lakh central government employees.
  • The Central Government has launched the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS), which provides government workers with a steady pension based on their length of service and most recent basic salary drawn.
  • As per reports, central government employees can select between the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) and the National Pension Scheme (NPS). Additionally, current NPS subscribers of the central government will have the choice to transfer to the UPS. State governments will also be able to choose to implement the Unified Pension Scheme shortly.

Cabinet Approves BioE3 Policy for Fostering High Performance Bio-manufacturing

  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the 'BioE3 (Biotechnology for Economy, Environment and Employment) Policy for Fostering High Performance Bio-manufacturing' of the Department of Biotechnology.
  • Overall, this Policy will further strengthen Government's initiatives such as 'Net Zero' carbon economy & 'Lifestyle for Environment' and will steer India on the path of accelerated 'Green Growth' by promoting 'Circular Bioeconomy'. The BioE3 Policy will foster and advance future that is more sustainable, innovative, and responsive to global challenges and lays down the Bio-vision for Viksit Bharat.

Assam Government Introduces Bill to Repeal Muslim Marriage, Divorce Law in State

  • The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Assam tabled a new Bill in the State Assembly to repeal the existing law governing Muslim marriages and divorces in the State.
  • The Bill aims to abolish the Assam Moslem Marriages and Divorces Registration Act, 1935 on the primary ground that it facilitates the practice of child marriage.
  • The Bill outlines several other reasons for repealing the Act.
  • The statement of objects and reasons notes that the 1935 Act is a pre-independence Act adopted for the erstwhile Province of Assam to address Muslim religious and social arrangements.
  • It also states that the registration of marriages and divorces is not mandatory, and the informal registration process leaves room for non-compliance with existing norms.

Postal Department Launches Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana to Encourage Philately

  • The Department of Post under the Union Ministry of Communication launched the Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana to promote research and scholarship in philately among students across India. Announced by the Postmaster General of North Gujarat Region, Ahmedabad, Krishna Kumar Yadav, during the closing ceremony of the 'The Ideal and Great Stamps' Paintings exhibition, the scheme aims to foster the hobby of stamp collection among children.

Rs. 10, 000 under the Subhadra Yojana for Women in Odisha

  • Over 1 crore women, aged between 21 and 60 years, in Odisha will receive Rs. 10,000 annually under the Subhadra Yojana of the BJP-led government in the state.
  • Calling it a "path breaking" initiative for women empowerment in Odisha, CM Mohan Charan Majhi announced the standard operating procedure (SOP) for the scheme, which is set to be launched on the occasion of PM Modi's birthday, on September 17.

CM Adityanath Announces Scheme to Boost Entrepreneurship among Youth

  • Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced a scheme to promote entrepreneurship among the youth of Uttar Pradesh, saying it was aimed at empowering the state's youngsters.
  • With a target to set up 10 lakh micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) units, the state government will provide financial support to the youngsters interested in taking up entrepreneurship under the initiative, 'Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyam Vikas Abhiyan Yojana'.
  • The scheme aims to create employment opportunities for 50 lakh youngsters. "Under the scheme, 10 lakh youth will get employment or self-employment in the coming years.
