Home Minister Amit Shah Confers President's Colours Award to Assam Police

  • Home Minister Amit Shah presented the President's Colours Award to Assam Police at a Special Ceremony at Guwahati. Assam is the 10th state in the country to receive this honour which is conferred as recognition for exceptional services. Mr. Shah said that almost all militant organisations have joined the mainstream of the society and government has rehabilitated all of them. Insurgency and bloodshed has come to an end and peace has returned after decades.
  • The President's Colours, a special flag, also known as 'Nishaan' is the highest honour to be given to any military or police unit in recognition of exceptional service rendered to the nation, both in peace and war. It is an emblem worn by all the officers in the unit on the left-hand sleeve of their uniform.
  • Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Gujarat and Tripura are the other states which have received the President's Colour Award so far. Delhi is the only Union Territory to bag this prestigious award.

NASA's Cynthia Rosenzweig Receives the 2022 World Food Prize

  • A senior research scientist and head of the Climate Impacts Group at NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) in New York City, Cynthia Rosenzweig received the 2022 World Food Prize from the World Food Prize Foundation. Rosenzweig was selected for the award for her research to understand the relationship between climate and food systems and forecast how both will change in the future.
  • Her modelling work has provided a foundation for decision-makers around the world to create strategies to mitigate climate change and adapt our food systems to a changing planet, which has helped communities worldwide address the consequences of Earth's changing climate.
  • Rosenzweig has been a research scientist at NASA GISS and head of the Climate Impacts Group since 1994. Her research focuses on improving models and assessments of how climate change will affect agriculture and the food supply in the future.

Two Indian Groups Win NASA 2022 Human Exploration Rover Challenge

  • Two Indian student groups from Punjab and Tamil Nadu won the NASA 2022 Human Exploration Rover Challenge. Announced by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration during a virtual awards ceremony, the challenge involved as many as 91 teams, including 58 colleges and 33 high schools.
  • The challenge required US and international student teams to design, engineer, and test a human-powered rover on a course simulating terrain found on rocky bodies in the solar system. The teams also performed mission assignments, including sample retrievals and spectrographic analysis, while negotiating the course.
  • Decent Children Model Presidency School from Punjab was the winner of the STEM Engagement Award in the High School division. The team from Vellore Institute of Technology in Tamil Nadu was declared the winner in the College/University division in the Social Media Award.

DD National Pet Show Wins ENBA Award 2021

  • Yet again, proving its mettle when it comes to production of quality content that matters, Doordarshan won ENBA Award 2021 for the best in-depth Hindi series. TV series based on pet care 'Best Friend Forever' on Doordarshan has won big at the 14th edition of the Exchange4media News Broadcasting Awards (ENBA).
  • Best Friend Forever is half-an-hour weekly live phone-in show on DD National, wherein two pet experts guide people on how to take care of their pets, about their food, nutrition, routine health check-ups, vaccination and other pet related issues. Objective of the show is to maintain a two way communication where viewers can directly call and talk to the experts, and share their worries and experiences. From the first day, phone calls started pouring in from across the country. Apart from other age-groups, youngsters and kids engage the most with the show.

  • The India Pharma Awards 2022 and India Medical Device Awards 2022 were handed over by the Minister of State for the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers Bhagwanth Khuba. The awards were handed over during the seventh edition of India Pharma and Indian Medical Device 2022 which was organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the Department of Pharmaceuticals.

Snow Leopard Conservationist Charudutt Mishra Wins Whitley Gold Award

  • Noted snow leopard expert and wildlife conservationist Charudutt Mishra won the prestigious Whitley Gold Award for his contribution to involving indigenous communities in the conservation and recovery of big cat species in Asia's high mountain ecosystems. Princess Anne presented the award to Mishra at London's Royal Geographic Society. This is his second Whitley Fund for Nature (WFN) Award. He got the first in 2005.
  • Mishra was given the award for his work in 12 snow leopard range countries including Afghanistan, China, and Russia. In 2017, Mishra wrote a paper on eight approaches to community-based conservation that helped involve local communities in snow leopard protection in the upper reaches of the Himalayas, leading to a reduction in retribution killings of the big cats. UN Biodiversity Conference recognised his approach as an outstanding global practice.
