Kamal Haasan Honoured by the UAE, Obtains a Golden Visa

Kamal Haasan, a prominent figure in the Tamil cinema industry, was given the prestigious Golden Visa by the United Arab Emirates. The Golden Visa has been given to others besides actor Kamal Hasan. Actors Nasser, Mammootty, Mohanlal, Tovino Thomas, Parthiepan, Amala Paul, and Shah Rukh Khan all have received it before Kamal Hasan.
The UAE Golden Visa is an extended resident visa programme which lasts between five and ten years.
The visa is perpetually extended. It is given to high performers in a variety of industries, as well as to professionals, investors, and those with potential skills.
The cost of the Golden Visa for those who are currently residents of the UAE ranges from AED 2,800 to AED 3,800.

Indian-Origin Professor of Engineering Wins Prestigious Global Energy Prize

Kaushik Rajashekara, an Indian-origin professor of engineering at the University of Houston, won the prestigious Global Energy Prize for outstanding contributions to transportation electrification and energy efficiency technologies while reducing power generation emissions.
Only three people in the world were selected this year for the honour, bestowed by the Global Energy Association, out of a record 119 nominations from 43 countries.

Rajashekara was joined as a 2022 laureate by Viktor Orlov, chief specialist of the Centre for Innovative Technologies (Rosatom in Russia) and pioneer in thermonuclear physics; and Mercouri Kanatzidis, professor of chemistry and materials science at Northwestern University and senior researcher at the Argonne National Laboratory.

68th National Film Awards 2022 Announced

The winners of the 68th National Film Awards were announced in New Delhi. This year's (2022) awards ceremony honoured films from 2020 as well due to COVID-19-related delays. The event was organised by the Directorate of Film Festivals, which comes under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur announced the award winners. Soorarai Pottru won three of the four biggest awards of the night, while Tanhaji The Unsung Warrior also took home major trophies.

Best Feature Film: Soorarai Pottru
Best Director: Sachidanandan KR, Ayyappanum Koshiyum
Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment: Tanhaji
Best Actor: Suriya for Soorarai Pottru and Ajay Devgn for Tanhaji
Best Actress: Aparna Balamurali, Soorarai Pottru
Best Supporting Actor: Biju Menon, Ayyappanum Koshiyam
Best Supporting Actress: Lakshmi Priya Chandramouli, Sivaranjaniyum Innam Sila Pengallum

Malayalam Filmmaker K. P. Kumaran Honoured with JC Daniel Award 2022

Malayalam filmmaker K. P. Kumaran was honoured with Kerala's highest film award, the JC Daniel Award. Kumaran won the award for his contribution to the Malayalam film industry. The award comprises of a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh, a citation and a plaque.
The filmmaker made his directorial debut with Athithi in 1975 and earned fame for his films like Rugmini, which won the National Award for Best feature film in Malayalam and the Kerala State Film Award in 1989. He is also known for films like Thenthulli, Laxmivijayam and Thottam.

NAARM Receives Sardar Patel Award of ICAR

The National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (NAARM), established by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), bagged the Sardar Patel Outstanding ICAR Institute Award 2021 (in the Large Institute Category) for its overall performance.
Srinivasan Rao, Director of NAARM, received the award from Minister of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar.
Set up in 1976, the Hyderabad-based institute's mandate includes capacity building in agricultural research services.
The academy has 6 divisions namely Agribusiness Management, Education Systems Management, Extension Systems Management, Human Resources Management, Information and Communication Management, Research Systems Management.

Maharashtra Governor Presents Mother Teresa Memorial Award to Dia Mirza, Afroz Shah

Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari presented the Mother Teresa Memorial Award for 2021 to actor and UN Goodwill Ambassador for Environment Dia Mirza and 'UN Champion of the Earth' awardee Afroz Shah at Raj Bhavan Mumbai.
The awards instituted by the Harmony Foundation were presented to Dia Mirza and Afroz Shah in recognition of their outstanding work for the protection of the environment.
