World Travel Awards Winners Unveiled at Star-studded Ceremony in Jamaica

  • The finest travel brands from across the Americas and the Caribbean were unveiled at a star-studded Gala Ceremony in Jamaica. The elite of the travel industry assembled for the World Travel Awards (WTA) Caribbean & The America's Gala Ceremony 2022 to find out who amongst them had been crowned best of the best.
  • The red carpet evening, hosted at Sandals Montego Bay, marked the opening leg of the WTA Grand Tour 2022 – an international search for the finest travel and tourism organisations in the world.
  • Winners included the paradise island of St. Lucia, which fended off stiff competition to emerge as 'Caribbean's Leading Honeymoon Destination', whilst Turks & Caicos was voted 'Caribbean's Leading Beach Destination'. The Bahamas took the title of 'Caribbean's Leading Luxury Island Destination'. Jamaica emerged triumphantly a multiple winner, picking up the ultimate title for 'Caribbean's Leading Destination', along with 'Caribbean's Leading Cruise Destination' and 'Caribbean's Leading Tourist Board'.

Aavas Financiers Ltd Wins the Best NBFC Award at FE India's Best Banks Award'22

  • Jaipur head quartered Housing finance company (NBFC – HFC), Aavas Financiers Limited ("Aavas") was awarded the Best Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC) for the year 2020-21 in Financial Express India's Best Banks Awards 2022. The glittering ceremony took place at ITC Grand Central, Mumbai, with the Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman as the Chief Guest.
  • This time, the committee recognized winners from NBFC and Fintech space as well. The evaluation process was rigorous and the winners were selected by an eminent jury Chaired by S. The other members were Amit Chandra, Chairman, Bain Capital, B Mahapatra, Former Executive Director, Reserve Bank of India and Chairman, NPCI, R Shankar Raman, Director and Group CFO, Larsen and Toubro, Amit Tandon, Managing Director, IIAS India and Sharad Sharma, Founder, iSPIRT.
  • Aavas is primarily engaged in offering home loans with an average ticket size of Rs.10 Lakh.

The 67th Filmfare Awards 2022

  • The 67th Filmfare Awards ceremony, presented by The Times Group, honoured the best Indian Hindi-language films of 2021. Held at Jio World Centre, the 67th Filmfare Awards honour the films released in 2021. Bollywood actors Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor were announced as co-hosts.
  • Best Film: Shershaah (Dharma Productions), Best Director: Vishnuvardhan (Shershaah), Best Actor: Ranveer Singh (83) as Kapil Dev, Best Actress: Kriti Sanon, Mimi as Mimi Rathore, Best Supporting Actor: Pankaj Tripathi (Mimi) and Best Supporting Actress: Sai Tamhankar (Mimi).

17-Year-Old Pilot Mack Rutherford Sets Record for Solo Flight Around the World

  • A 17-year-old pilot, Mack Rutherford became the youngest person to fly solo around the world in a small aircraft after he landed in Bulgaria, where his journey kicked off five months ago.
  • Mack Rutherford, a Belgian-British dual national, landed on an airstrip west of Bulgaria's capital, Sofia, to complete his task and claim two Guinness World Records.
  • Along with becoming the youngest person to fly around the world by himself, Rutherford is the youngest person to circumnavigate the globe in a microlight plane.

Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel Wins UNESCO Peace Prize 2022

  • Former German chancellor Angela Merkel has been awarded the UNESCO Peace Prize 2022 for "her efforts to welcome refugees".
  • In the summer of 2015, as refugees were streaming into Europe, Merkel opened her country's borders and famously declared to Germans "Wir schaffen das", "We can do this." She eventually pulled back on her pro-immigration stance as support eroded among the public and within her own conservative party.
  • All the members of the jury were touched by her courageous decision in 2015 to welcome more than 1.2 million refugees, notably from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Eritrea.
