S.S. Rajamouli Wins Best Director at New York Film Critics Circle
Filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli won the Best Director Award for RRR at the New York Film Critics Circle. The group is one of the first critics' groups to weigh in on the awards season. Rajamouli's win surprised many as his competitors included Steven Spielberg, Darron Aronofsky, Sarah Polley, and Gina Prince-Blythewood.
At the New York Film Critics Circle, Todd Field's Tar has won the Best Picture of the year, also nabbing Best Actress for Cate Blanchett's leading performance. Colin Farrell won Best Actor for two of his performances this year — Kogonada's future-set sci-fi drama After Yang and Martin McDonagh's The Banshees of Inisherin. Ke Huy Quan has won the Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once, Keke Palmer won the Best Supporting Actress for Nope.
Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai Awarded Padma Bhushan
Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai was awarded the Padma Bhushan - India's third-highest civilian award - for 2022 in the Trade and Industry category in the presence of his close family members in San Francisco. India's Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu handed over the award to Pichai and said that his inspirational journey reaffirms Indian talent's contribution to global innovation.
President of India Presents National Awards for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities
President Droupadi Murmu conferred the National Awards for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities for the year 2021 and 2022 at a function in New Delhi. National Awards for 2021 were given to 25 Individuals, institutions and organizations while for 2022, the Awards were presented to 29 individuals, institutions and organisations for their outstanding achievements and work done towards empowerment of Persons with Disabilities. These awards were given in various categories including Sarvshresth Divyangjan, Shresth Divyangjan, Shresth Divyang Bal and Balika, Sarvshrestha Vyakti working towards the empowerment of Divyangjan and Sarvshrestha Rehabilitation Professional worker. Speaking on the occasion, President Droupadi Murmu said, the objective of International Day of Persons with Disabilities is to promote awareness about the issues concerning disabilities. She stressed on the need to create a healthy atmosphere for Divyangjans so that they can live a dignified life and also participate in political, social, economic, cultural and sports activities without any discrimination.

Kerala Green Start-up Tree Tag Bags Award in 2022 Climathon
A green start-up by climate-conscious individuals from Kerala, striving to reduce carbon emissions through tech-integrated afforestation projects, emerged first in the Climathon-2022.
Tree Tag, the start-up, received Rs. five lakh as prize money in the hackathon which was held in Kerala Technology Innovation Zone (KTIZ), Kochi. They won the award under the category of Life on Land, addressing the problem statement such as 'monitoring and protecting existing forest eco-systems'.
The team Tree Tag included Abhijith Kumar Meenakumari , CEO, Aashuthosh B. Sai - Chief Technology Officer, Mohamed Wazeer - Chief Operating Officer, Anoop Babu - Chief Strategy Officer.
Climathon-2022, a hackathon, was organised by Kerala Start-up Mission (KSUM) in collaboration with EY Global Delivery Services, UNDP, Startup India, Global Shapers Kochi, NASSCOM, TiE Kerala.
The Climathon-2022 focused on climate change with the theme- of securing a sustainable and climate-resilient future.

Two Films from Northeast Win at 'tve Global Sustainability Awards' in London
Two films from Northeast India, one about rhino conservation in Assam and the other on water scarcity in one of the world's wettest places Cherrapunji, won prizes at 'tve Global Sustainability Film Awards (GSFA) 2022'.
The tve GSFA, now in its 11th year, recognises outstanding films from the business, non-profit, media and creative sectors that inspire audiences with real-world solutions for a more sustainable future.
While the film from Assam, 'Bad Blood', by Vice Media won in the Greener Living Short Film Award category, the special tve Trustee Choice Award was given to 'Water for Life' by Green Hub.

President Droupadi Murmu Awards MAKA Trophy to GNDU VC for Promoting Sports
President Droupadi Murmu presented the coveted "Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy" (MAKA) to the Guru Nanak Dev University for its all-round best performance in sports for the year 2021-22 in an investiture ceremony held at Ashoka Hall of the Rashtrapati Bhawan this evening. The university received the award for a record 24th time.
Vice-Chancellor Jaspal Singh Sandhu and Dr. Kanwar Mandeep Singh, in-charge, Sports Department of the University, received this trophy. The replica of trophy and award money of Rs. 15 lakh was also presented to the university by the President for the promotion and development of sports.

Tamil Writer Imayam Selected for Kuvempu National Award
Rashtrakavi Kuvempu Prathishtana Kuppali selected Tamil poet V. Annamalai aka Imayam for the Kuvempu National award for the year 2022 at the Kuvempu's 118th birth anniversary program on December 29 at Kuppali in Thirthahalli taluk. 'Kannada National Poet Kwembu Rashtriya Puraskar Award is presented annually in memory of the late poet Kwembu. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh, a silver medal and a citation.
Annamalai writes in the pen name Imayam and has penned seven novels, six short story collections, and a novella. His debut novel 'Koveru Kazhudaigal has been translated into English, French, and many other Indian languages. Imayam has brought new sensibilities to Tamil literature through his writings. His novels Koveru Kazhudaigal and Pethavan, have been translated into English and several other languages.
VP Jageep Dhankhar Confers Shilp Guru and National Awards
