National Farmers' Day

India observes National Farmers' Day, also known as Kisan Diwas, on December 23 every year to honour the farmers who are integral to the nation's progress. The day is marked by paying tribute to the life and achievements of Chaudhary Charan Singh, India's fifth Prime Minister, whose advocacy for farmers' rights led to the declaration of his birthday as a day dedicated to farmers.

National Mathematics Day

In India, National Mathematics Day is observed every year on December 22 to honour the life and achievements of Srinivasa Ramanujan, one of the most brilliant mathematicians the world has ever seen. This day serves as a reminder of the importance of mathematics in our everyday lives and its role in shaping the future.
National Mathematics Day was established in 2012 by the Indian government to celebrate the 125th birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan. The announcement was made by Dr. Manmohan Singh, the then Prime Minister of India, at Madras University.
The theme for National Mathematics Day 2024 is 'Mathematics: The Bridge to Innovation and Progress.' This theme focuses on how mathematics drives scientific discoveries, technological advancements, and solutions to real-world problems. It encourages students, teachers, and professionals to embrace the subject and use it to build a better, more innovative world.

World Meditation Day

The world marked December 21 2024 as the first-ever World Meditation Day, following a resolution passed by the United Nations General Assembly in November 2024.This marks a significant moment in global recognition of meditation's value. This historic event will establish an annual global celebration of meditation, highlighting its transformative benefits for mental and physical health and its potential to foster peace and unity.
To celebrate this day, the Permanent Mission of India hosted a special event at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The event was themed as "Meditation for Global Peace and Harmony."

World Basketball Day

World Basketball Day is an annual celebration held on December 21, commemorating the invention of basketball by Dr. James Naismith in 1891.
On August 25, 2023, the General Assembly adopted resolution A/RES/77/324 proclaiming December 21 as World Basketball Day.

International Human Solidarity Day

International Human Solidarity Day is observed on December 20. International Human Solidarity Day is celebrated to raise awareness of the need for our governments to uphold their commitments to international agreements. It is a day to celebrate Unity in Diversity.
In 2005, the United Nations General Assembly declared December 20 as International Human Solidarity Day to promote solidarity in accomplishing the Millennium Development Goals and tackling global concerns.

Goa Liberation Day

Goa Liberation Day is celebrated every year on December 19 to mark the freedom of Goa from Portuguese rule in 1961. This ended the struggle of freedom fighters against the 451 years of colonial rule. Goa gained independence on this day and became an integral part of India.

Good Governance Week to Begin on December 19, 2024

Good Governance Week 2024 is taking place from December 19 to December 24, 2024. As part of this national initiative, the Prashasan Gaon Ki Ore campaign is being held across more than 700 districts, states, and union territories of India. The campaign focuses on the redressal of public grievances and enhancing service delivery to rural areas. The campaign is a significant element of the Good Governance Week, which highlights the government's commitment to improving governance and reaching out to citizens, especially in rural areas.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised the campaign's transformative approach, stating that it is not just a slogan but a grassroots democracy effort aimed at improving governance and ensuring that development reaches rural communities.
