75th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle to mark Commonwealth Games Day nationwide

India's Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports will organise the 75th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle to celebrate Commonwealth Games Day nationwide. Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya will lead the celebrations from Ahmedabad on 24 May. The initiative aims to deepen public engagement with cycling, fitness, and health while linking to India’s hosting of the 2030 Commonwealth Games. The cycling drive will span more than 8,000 locations across the country and include a Commonwealth Games-themed exhibition in Ahmedabad. Officials emphasize sport as a nationwide movement and a step toward long-term Olympic ambitions.

International Day for Biological Diversity 2026 observed worldwide

On 22 May 2026, the United Nations-designated International Day for Biological Diversity is observed worldwide. This year's theme is Acting locally for global impact, highlighting community actions at homes, schools, and cities. Biodiversity includes plants, animals, microorganisms, genetic diversity, and ecosystems that sustain life on Earth. The day aims to raise awareness of biodiversity loss and to spur public engagement, education, and policy action. Governments, businesses, and civil society are encouraged to promote nature-friendly practices and protect habitats, water, soil, and pollinators. IDB has been celebrated annually since its inception by the UN to mobilize action for conservation.

Yuva Sangam Phase-6 inaugurated at IIT Tirupati; 10-day cultural exchange

The Union Ministry of Education inaugurated the Yuva Sangam Phase-6 under Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat at the Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati, Yerpedu. The 10-day programme, continuing until 27 May 2026, brings together students from diverse regions to explore India’s cultural diversity and heritage. IIT Tirupati Director K. N. Satyanarayana highlighted the initiative’s aim to promote cultural exchange, intellectual development and national integration. Participants from Pune colleges will visit historic and developmental sites across Andhra Pradesh, including Amaravati and Chandragiri Fort, and will observe the Sriharikota rocket launch scheduled for 21 May.
