India-Guyana Air Service Agreement

The Union Cabinet approved the signing of an air services agreement between India and Guyana that will pave the way for flight services between the two countries. The agreement will come into force after the exchange of diplomatic notes between the parties confirming that each party has completed the necessary internal procedure for entry into force of the pact.
As per the 2012 census, Indians have a sizeable presence in Guyana and are the largest ethnic group comprising about 40 per cent of the population.
The agreement will provide the legal framework for air operations between two countries based on the principles of sovereignty of nations, nationality of carriers and reciprocity in terms of commercial opportunities for the designated airlines of each side.

Tourism Ministry to Organise 1st Global Tourism Investors' Summit

The Tourism Ministry will organise 1st Global Tourism Investors' Summit from May 17 to 19, 2023 in New Delhi to showcase opportunities in the tourism and hospitality sector. The Summit will deliberate on potential opportunities for investment across tourism segments including hotels and restaurants, adventure and eco tourism, cruise and other related tourism sectors.

Govt Launches Pan-India Best Tourism Village Competition, New Web Portal

The Centre launched a competition to select the best tourism village from across the country, and also a new website to promote rural tourism.
The launch took place in the presence of Union Culture and Tourism Minister G. Kishan Reddy and Minister of State for Culture and Defence Ajay Bhatt.
The 'Best Tourism Village Competition' helmed by the tourism ministry will be held in three stages, and will seek entries at district level, state level and finally at the national level.
The evaluation criteria have been aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
On the occasion, a new web portal to promote rural tourism in India was also launched.
Reddy also launched the website of the first Global Tourism Investors Summit which will take place at Pragati Maidan later this year.

Ministry of Tourism Selected Four Pilgrim Centres under PRASHAD Scheme

The Ministry of Tourism under its schemes of 'Swadesh Darshan' and 'National Mission on Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD)' identified four pilgrim centres for development. They provide financial assistance to State Governments/UT Administrations etc. for the development of tourism infrastructure in the country.
The Ministry of Tourism revamped its Swadesh Darshan scheme as Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0) to develop sustainable and responsible tourism destinations. Under SD2.0, the Ministry identified 'Hampi' and 'Mysuru' as destinations for development.
Pilgrim centres identified by Ministry of Tourism in Karnataka were (i) Development of Maa Chamundeshwari Devi Temple, Mysuru, Karnataka, (ii) Sri Madhwa Vana, Kunjarugiri, Udupi District, (iii) Papnash Temple, Bidar District and (iv) Sri Renuka Yallamma Temple, Saudatti, Belagavi District.
The Government of India launched the PRASAD scheme in the year 2014-2015 under the Ministry of Tourism. The full form of the PRASAD scheme is the 'Pilgrimage Rejuvenation And Spiritual Augmentation Drive'.

India Jumps to 55th Place in ICAO's Aviation Safety Oversight Ranking: DGCA

India's aviation safety oversight ranking jumped to the 55th position from 112th place earlier, with a significant improvement in the country's score under the ICAO's coordinated validation mission, according to regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Under its Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme (USOAP) Continuous Monitoring Approach, an ICAO Coordinated Validation Mission (ICVM) was undertaken in India from November 9 to 16, 2022.
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) undertakes audit of all the contracting states under this programme.
The eight audit areas of a Member State's aviation system that the programme monitors are: Primary Aviation Legislation and Civil Aviation Regulations (LEG), Civil Aviation Organization (ORG), Personnel Licensing and Training (PEL), Aircraft Operations (OPS), Airworthiness of Aircraft (AIR), Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation (AIG), Air Navigation Services (ANS) and Aerodromes and Ground Aids (AGA).
