World Bollywood Day

World Bollywood Day, observed annually on September 24, stands as a testament to the rich heritage and global influence of Indian cinema. This day serves as a unique platform for Bollywood enthusiasts and film industry professionals to come together and celebrate the art of cinema and its contributions to culture and society.
World Bollywood Day is more than just a date on the calendar; it's a global phenomenon that showcases the universal appeal of Indian cinema. From the bustling streets of Mumbai to the neon-lit avenues of New York, Bollywood's influence stretches far and wide, touching the hearts of millions across diverse cultures and languages.

Antyodaya Diwas 2024

Every year, Antyodaya Diwas is celebrated on September 25th to honour the legacy of one of India's most renowned political thinkers and social reformers, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay. Antyodaya Diwas date marks his birth anniversary and is observed as a tribute to his philosophy of 'Antyodaya,' meaning the upliftment of the most marginalised sections of society.
It is a day of remembrance and celebration of his life and legacy and he was one of the most prominent figures in India's political history. He was a co-founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh (BJS) and a thinker of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Upadhyaya is also known for his efforts to uplift the poor and less fortunate, and so his birth anniversary is celebrated on Antyodaya, which means 'rising of the last'.

International Day of Sign Languages

The International Day of Sign Languages is an annual event observed on September 23 globally. The day is marked to raise awareness about the rights of the deaf community and other sign language users.
The proposal for the International Day of Sign Languages came from the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD), an organisation representing deaf people worldwide. The Permanent Mission of Antigua and Barbuda to the United Nations and 97 United Nations Member States moved a resolution A/RES/72/161 in 2017 that proclaimed September 23 as the International Day of Sign Languages.
This date holds historical significance as it commemorates the establishment of the WFD in 1951. The day was first celebrated in 2018 as part of the International Week of the Deaf. The International Week of the Deaf has grown into a global movement advocating for deaf rights since its first celebration in September 1958.
The theme for the 2024 International Day of Sign Languages is 'Sign up for Sign Language Rights'.

World Alzheimer's Day

World Alzheimer's Day is observed annually on September 21 to raise awareness about Alzheimer's disease and dementia, promote understanding, and combat the stigma surrounding these conditions. It serves as a day of global awareness and education, encouraging people to learn more about the challenges faced by individuals living with Alzheimer's, their families, and caregivers.
World Alzheimer's Day was first launched in 1994 by Alzheimer's Disease International (ADI) to mark the 10th anniversary of the organisation. The day was created in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO) to shed light on the growing impact of the disease and the importance of early diagnosis and support for those affected.
The theme for World Alzheimer's Day 2024 is 'Time to act on dementia, Time to act on Alzheimer's'.

World Rivers Day

World Rivers Day is a celebration of the world's waterways. It highlights the many values of our rivers, strives to increase public awareness, and encourages the improved stewardship of all rivers around the world. Rivers in virtually every country face an array of threats, and only through our active involvement can we ensure their health in the years ahead.
In 2005, the United Nations launched the Water for Life Decade to help create a greater awareness of the need to better care for our water resources. Following this, the establishment of World Rivers Day was in response to a proposal initiated by internationally renowned river advocate, Mark Angelo.
The proposal for a global event to celebrate rivers was based on the success of BC Rivers Day, which Mark Angelo had founded and led in western Canada since 1980. A World Rivers Day event was seen by agencies of the UN as a good fit for the aims of the Water for Life Decade and the proposal was approved. It is annually celebrated on the fourth Sunday of every September.

International Day of Peace

The International Day of Peace is observed annually on September 21 to promote peace and celebrate the power of global solidarity for a peaceful and sustainable world. Also known as World Peace Day, it encourages people of all races and ethnicities to propagate the importance of world peace.
The International Day of Peace was established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly. In 2001, the General Assembly unanimously voted to devote a day to commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace. The UN initially designated the third Tuesday in September 1981 to celebrate World Peace Day. Later in 2002, the date was then shifted and fixed to September 21.
Every year, a new theme is announced to celebrate the International Day of Peace. This year (2024), the theme mentioned by the United Nations is 'Cultivating a Culture of Peace'.

World Cleanup Day

The inaugural event of the World cleanup Day celebrated was on the 20th of September.
On December 8, 2023, the United Nations General Assembly, in its seventy-eighth session, unanimously adopted resolution 78/122 "World Cleanup Day", which proclaims September 20 as World Cleanup Day.
The resolution invites all Member States, organisations of the United Nations system, other international and regional organisations, and other relevant stakeholders – including civil society, the private sector and academia.
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) facilitates the observance of the Day.
The host for World Cleanup Day 2024 was Norway.
The theme for World Cleanup Day 2024 is 'Arctic Cities and Marine Litter'.

International Talk Like a Pirate Day

International Talk Like a Pirate Day is celebrated annually on September 19. The day is marked by pirate-themed events, social media posts, and, of course, conversations filled with pirate talk. It's a day to let your creativity run wild and enjoy the silliness of speaking like a pirate.
International Talk Like a Pirate Day was created in 1995 by John Baur ("Ol' Chumbucket") and Mark Summers ("Cap'n Slappy"), two friends from Oregon, USA. What started as a playful idea during a game of racquetball quickly turned into a global phenomenon after humour columnist Dave Barry wrote about it in 2002. Since then, the day has been celebrated by millions of people worldwide, with pirate enthusiasts, organisations, and even businesses getting involved in the fun. It's a day where everyone can let loose, have fun, and embrace their inner buccaneer.
