Odisha Govt. Collaborates with Infosys, NASSCOM

The Odisha Government's Higher Education Department entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Infosys Limited and NASSCOM to enhance the skills and employability of students in Higher Education Institutions in Odisha. This collaboration aims to provide learning and employment opportunities for students and promote equal access to education for passionate individuals, equipping them for the future.
Infosys, in line with its ESG Vision 2030, has set a goal to enable digital skills on a large scale and empower more than 10 million people across India from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds by 2025 through its programme called Infosys Springboard.
Infosys Springboard intends to offer a wide range of courses developed in partnership with renowned digital education providers such as Coursera, Skillsoft, Techademy, Knolskape, and Harvard Business Publishing. It also includes a learning portal, specialised resources, and expert mentors to empower women and students from rural areas, promoting their holistic development. The programme fully aligns with India's National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Under this MoU, NASSCOM will provide training to 800,000 students through their future skills prime program. The collaboration focuses on developing technical expertise across various disciplines, promoting digital fluency, and delivering industry-curated content. It offers a comprehensive career-building programme that leads to industry-recognised Nasscom certifications.

IIT Madras Launches 15 Centres of Excellence

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) unveiled 15 Centres of Excellence (CoE) under the 'Institute of Eminence' (IoE) Scheme. These centres are dedicated to pioneering research, aiming to develop technologies with a global reach. The IoE Scheme, initiated by the Government of India, empowers higher educational institutions to transform into world-class teaching and research establishments. IIT Madras was selected as an IoE in 2019 and has since established numerous research initiatives across various fields.
IIT Madras had identified 68 research initiatives across 21 technology clusters in diverse fields in Phase I. Out of these, the experts shortlisted 15 Centres of Excellence within the IIT Madras system alongside 23 Research Centres and 10 Research Projects in Phase II. This selection was done by conducting an extensive and rigorous review process.

IIMA's Executive Education Programmes Number 1 in India

The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) was ranked overall number 1 in India for its executive education programmes, as per the latest Financial Times (FT) Executive Education Rankings, 2023. The IIMA ranked 2nd in Asia and the 35th globally.
This year (2023), the IIMA moved up two places in the Open Enrolment Programmes category and five places in the Custom Programmes rankings. In the combined category rankings, the IIMA moved up by four places to the 35th position globally.
Overall, the IIMA's executive education programmes have done well on several parameters, which include international participants, international location, faculty, programme design, teaching methods, aims achieved, value for money and future use, among others.

Colleges Failing to Get NAAC Mandate to Lose Varsity Affiliation

Colleges in Maharashtra, who have yet not started the process to obtain National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) grades, stand to lose their respective university affiliation at the beginning of the academic year 2023-24.
In an order issued to registrars of all non-agricultural universities across the state, Director of Higher Education Shailendra Deolankar issued instructions to collate data of such colleges by the beginning of the admission process and take action against such institutions prescribed under the Maharashtra State Public Universities Act 2016, which suggests de-affiliating the college.
This is only the first stage of the NAAC accreditation process. If there are colleges which are not willing to take steps for this, it raises serious questions on the quality of education being imparted at such colleges. It is not possible to ensure effective implementation of the new National Education Policy (NEP), without colleges having the basic grading.

Oxford University, XED Announce Senior Executive Leadership Programme

XED, an ed-tech firm in Asia, joined hands with Oxford University's Saïd Business School to launch the "Senior Executive Leadership Programme" (SELP) for senior leaders and C-suite executives.
The course is scheduled to begin on November 15, 2023.
This programme is a nine-month course, which has been tailored to CXOs and senior leaders seeking to enhance their operational and strategic skills from a global perspective. The experts are hoping that this will enable candidates to navigate emerging business challenges. The programme includes intensive in-class learning at Oxford's UK Campus, industry immersion in Dubai and live-online modules.
On successful completion of the programme, aspirants will join the Oxford Business Alumni Network and gain a certificate at the graduation ceremony at Oxford, UK.

Education Ministry Calls First Meet Aimed at Unifying 60 School Boards

The Ministry of Education organised a workshop in New Delhi with the aim of unifying the 60 school examination boards operating in different States and union territories under one umbrella. The workshop will study school assessments, examination practices and equivalence of boards across the country.
The main component of this plan is PARAKH or the National Assessment Centre which has been set up as an organisation under the National Council of Educational Research and Training.
The mandate of PARAKH is to work on bringing the school boards across the States and the Union Territories to a common platform.
As a first step, a workshop on PARAKH will act as a common platform for interaction of all concerned stakeholders in order to develop a holistic approach that ensures a fair assessment system which promotes equity in performance and equivalence in assessment of students.

Stanford Researchers Develop 'e-skin'

Stanford University's Bao Research Group developed a soft, flexible electronic skin that can mimic the process that causes a finger or a toe to react and move away when poked, or when they touch a hot surface.
This current e-skin really has all the attributes that we have been dreaming about, said chemical engineer Zhenan Bao of Stanford University.
This technology, as per Nature, could lead to the development of a covering for prosthetic limbs. The best part about this breakthrough soft "e-skin" is that it can directly transmit electrical signals to the wearer's brain to allow them to 'feel' pressure, strain or changes in temperature.
The goal is to use this technology in prosthetic limbs to provide sensory feedback and improve control for amputees.

IIM-Kozhikode Ranks 72nd in Financial Times Rankings 2023

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Kozhikode made debut in the Financial Times Rankings 2023 (FT Rankings). IIM Kozhikode was ranked at the 72nd position, among the top-75 open-enrolment executive programme providers globally.
This came a little after the institute earned a spot in the top 251-300 Institutes in Business and Management Studies globally, in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject 2023, which was released in March 2023.
IIM Kozhikode is only one of the three IIMs and four Indian business schools to feature in the top 75 FT Open-enrolment Executive Education Rankings 2023. In the Executive Education Open 2023 category, IIM Ahmedabad ranked at 45th spot, IIM Bangalore at 47th spot and Indian School of Business at 65.
In the Executive Education Custom 2023 category, Indian School of Business has ranked at the 29th spot, followed by IIM Ahmedabad at 45th spot and IIM Bangalore at 53.

TuTr to Tie up with IIT Madras on IP development in Hyperloop Technology

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras)-incubated Deep Tech Start-up TuTr Hyperloop is collaborating with the Institute on developing Intellectual property (IP) in hyperloop technology. The start-up also partnered with Tata Steel to jointly work on the development and deployment of Hyperloop technology at scale.
The start-up is presently finalising an MoU with a major Indian Engineering, Procurement and Construction Services company to work together to create and develop the Infrastructure and Systems for Hyperloop technology. Towards these, TuTr Hyperloop entered into an IP Agreement with IIT Madras.
TuTr Hyperloop is a deep-tech startup operating from National Centre for Combustion Research and Development (NCCRD), IIT Madras, in 2022 to carry forward the work done by CFI Team Avishkar and focus on commercialising hyperloop technologies.
