Sudhir Kakar, 'Father of Indian Psychoanalysis', Dies

  • Sudhir Kakar, India's foremost psychoanalyst who helped readers understand Indian men and women like none other, passed away. French magazine Le Nouvel Observateur had once described Kakar as one of the 25 major thinkers of the world. With wit and humour, he deeply probed culture, social mores, family ties and elucidated what sets apart Indians from citizens of the world, and what sets apart Indians from Indians.
  • He received several awards, some of them are: Kakar's was awarded the 1987 Boyer Prize for Psychological Anthropology of the American Anthropological Association. He received the Order of Merit, Federal republic of Germany, 2012, Distinguished Service Award, Indo-American Psychiatric Association, 2007.

Citroen India Ropes in M. S. Dhoni as Brand Ambassador

  • In a move to enhance its brand presence and awareness in the Indian market, French carmaker Citroen engaged cricketing legend M. S. Dhoni as its brand ambassador. The Stellantis Group company, which is a relatively new entrant in the competitive Indian passenger vehicle market, aims to find a firm footing and strengthen its brand identity through this association.
  • Citroen, part of the Stellantis Group, entered the Indian market in 2019 and started selling cars in 2021. Despite being a newcomer, the company has managed to establish a small presence, with a market share of 0.21%. In the fiscal year 2023-24, Citroen retailed 8,330 units in the domestic market, an increase from 5,990 units in the previous year, according to data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA).

Former England Test Batsman Raman Subba Row Passes Away at 92

  • The cricketing world mourns the loss of a legendary figure as Raman Subba Row, the former England Test batsman, has passed away at the age of 92. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced the sorrowful news, paying tribute to England's oldest living men's Test cricketer at the time of his demise.
  • Subba Row's cricketing journey began at Cambridge University, where he showcased his talent as a first-class cricketer. His skills then led him to join the formidable Surrey side of the 1950s, a team that etched its name in history by winning an impressive seven successive County Championships.
  • Although unable to secure a permanent first-team spot at The Oval, Subba Row's determination drove him to Northamptonshire, where he was appointed captain in 1958. This year marked a significant milestone in his career as he earned his first of 13 England caps.

Renowned Carnatic Musician K. G. Jayan Passes Away

  • Prominent Carnatic musician and singer K. G. Jayan died at the age of 90.
  • Born on November 21, 1934, in Kottayam, Kerala, Jayan's life was steeped in music from a young age. Along with his twin brother, K. G. Vijayan, they were known as the illustrious "Jaya-Vijaya" duo. The name was bestowed upon them by the legendary Malayalam actor Jose Prakash, who collaborated with them in his plays.

Indian Air Force's Oldest Pilot Dalip Singh Majithia Passes Away

  • Veteran air warrior Squadron Leader Dalip Singh Majithia (retd), who joined the Indian Air Force during the tumultuous years of World War II and distinguished himself as a "fearless aviator" during his career died. He was 103.
  • The centenarian had over 1,100 flying hours to his name, including missions in aircraft such as Hurricanes and Spitfires.
  • He was affectionately called 'Maji' by his fellow air warriors.
  • His exceptional talent earned him the prestigious 'Best Pilot Trophy' during his training at the Initial Training School in Walton in Lahore.
