Ministry of Tourism to Host PATA Travel Mart 2023 in New Delhi

  • Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, will be hosting the 46th edition of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Travel Mart 2023 at the magnificent International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC), Pragati Maidan, in New Delhi.
  • The Mart is scheduled to take place from October 4 to 6, 2023, bringing together tourism professionals and business stakeholders from across the world. The physical version of the Travel Mart is being held after a hiatus of three years due to the pandemic.
  • The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) founded in 1951, with its Head Quarters in Bangkok, is a renowned not-for-profit association recognized internationally for its role as a catalyst in the responsible development of travel and tourism in the Asia Pacific region. PATA Travel Mart is one of the important international trade exhibitions catering to the tourism sector and it serves as a platform for trade interactions between global buyers and sellers mostly from the Asia Pacific region. The Mart will bring together exhibitors and attendees from diverse sectors, offering a unique platform for networking, learning and collaboration.
  • This year the event will feature different activities, including the prestigious PATA Gold Award, the PATA Youth Symposium, PATA Forum on Sustainability besides the B2B Mart. The event is being held at the International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC), Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

Kanthallur Village Bags Gold Award for Best Tourism Village

  • Kanthalloor village in Idukki district, Kerala where a sustainable and inclusive tourism project of the State Responsible Tourism Mission was successfully implemented, was bestowed with the 'Gold' award by the Government of India in the category of Best Rural Tourism Projects. The project named STREET, which stands for 'Sustainable, Tangible, Responsible, Experiential, Ethnic, Tourism' was implemented in selected places across the state, including Kanthalloor, based on UNWTO's theme 'Tourism for Inclusive Growth'.
  • Kerala Tourism director P. B. Nooh received the award from the Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, India, V. Vidyavathi at a ceremony held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Kerala Responsible Tourism Mission (RTM) coordinator and state Rural Tourism nodal officer K. RupeshKumar and Kanthalloor village panchayat president P. T. Mohandas were also present.
  • Kanthalloor was selected for the honour after an eight-month-long extensive evaluation of rural village projects across the country. In all, 767 projects from around the country vied for honours, and, 5 of them won 'Gold', 10 won 'Silver' and 20 won 'Bronze.' This honour is a huge endorsement for Kerala's sustainable and responsible tourism initiatives led by the Responsible Tourism Mission.

CM Stalin Releases TN's First 'Tourism Policy

  • In what is believed to be the first time in Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister M. K. Stalin released a separate policy for the tourism department. As per the statement issued by Stalin, the 'Tourism Policy 2023' is a landmark initiative that aims to propel Tamil Nadu to new heights in the tourism space.
  • With this policy, the state can harness its inherent strengths and leverage the power of tourism as a vital catalyst in realising our ambitious goal of achieving a USD 1 Trillion economy by 2030.
  • The policy aims to attract investments to the tune of Rs. 20,000 crore in the next five years and proposes strategic interventions, attractive incentives, and requisite regulatory reforms to facilitate investment and incubate private participation in the tourism sector. Further, it strives to create a sustainable tourism ecosystem in Tamil Nadu and lays emphasis on providing safe and high-quality experiences for tourists.

Biswanath Ghat in Assam Named 'Best Tourism Village of India 2023

  • Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that Biswanath Ghat has been selected as the Best Tourism Village of India 2023 by the Ministry of Tourism.
  • Located on the banks of the Brahmaputra River, Biswanath Ghat is also popularly known as 'Gupta Kashi' and is named after the ancient Biswanath Mandir. 
  • The village is located towards the south of Biswanath Charialii Town.
  • The ghat boasts a cluster of temples of different gods.

Ministry of Tourism Recognises Pembarthi and Chandlapur as Best Tourism Villages in Telangana

  • In Telangana, Pembarthi in Jangoan district and Chandlapur of Siddipet district were chosen by the Ministry of Tourism as the best tourism villages in Telangana for the year. Union Tourism Minister G. Kishan Reddy announced this.
  • Pembarthi is known for brass and bronze products and home decorations, figurines of gods and goddesses, and other handicrafts, which are exported to countries like the U.S., Germany, Belgium, and Japan. About 25 thousand people visit the village annually. Chandlapur village is renowned for the famous Ranganayaka Swamy temple, 'Gollabama' sarees, and other crafts of the region. The Minister further said the Central government actively promoted Telangana arts and crafts, especially during the conclusion of the G-20 summit, where foreign delegates were presented with the Pochampally sarees and scarves.
