IIM Ahmedabad Hosts Two Day International Research Conference on 'FinTech: Innovation, Inclusion ...

Misra Centre for Financial Markets and Economy (MCFME) at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA), along with the Centre for Advanced Financial Research and Learning (CAFRAL) organised the 'International Research Conference on FinTech: Innovation, Inclusion, and Regulation' on campus.
The two-day conference was organised with the objective of bringing top researchers, practitioners, and regulators from across the globe together to deliberate on key issues that accompany the exponential growth that FinTech has seen in the past few years.
IIMA-CAFRAL FinTech conference came at an opportune time during India's Presidency of the G20. The G20 Finance Track emphasizes improving financial inclusion through harnessing emerging technologies, improving the financial architecture, digital financial literacy, and bridging the digital divide.

IIT Kanpur Licenses Gene Therapy Technology to Reliance Life Sciences

The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur licensed a gene therapy technology that has the potential to treat many hereditary eye diseases to Reliance Life Sciences Pvt Ltd. The gene therapy technology from IIT Kanpur will be further developed as an indigenous product by Reliance Life Sciences.
Developed by Jayandharan Giridhara Rao and Shubham Maurya from the Department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering (BSBE), IIT Kanpur, the patented technology modifies the gene of an organism to treat a hereditary disorder.
Reliance Life Sciences is developing several gene therapies to address unmet clinical needs. Besides, the company is also developing a range of human and animal health vaccines and mRNA products.

BITS Pilani Launches BITS Law School in Mumbai

BITS Pilani launched BITS Law School in Greater Mumbai. The law school would offer two five-year integrated degree programmes, BA LLB (Hons) and BBA LLB (Hons). The first academic year will commence on August 1, 2023.
The law students will also gain access to and benefit from the over 1,70,000 BITS Pilani Alumni Network spanning across 55 countries. BITS Law School will seek intellectual guidance from luminaries of the legal fraternity, higher education, business, and policymaking.
As per reports, scholarships will be offered for meritorious students to enable access and preserve diversity. Among the specialisations offered are technology and media law; entertainment and sports law; corporate and financial law; and alternate dispute resolution and mediation.

University of Melbourne, 3 Indian Varsities Launches Joint BSc Dual Degree Course

The University of Melbourne will offer a new Bachelor of Science Dual Degree to Indian students. The dual degree will be offered in partnership with the University of Madras, Savitribai Phule Pune University, and Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (Hyderabad).
Indian students who enrol in the new dual will complete their degree both in India and Australia. They will be spending the first two years of their course in India and the remaining two years at the campus in Melbourne.
After completing the degree, they will be awarded a Bachelor of Science from the University of Melbourne.

IIT Kanpur to Launch New eMasters Program on Sustainable Construction

The Department of Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur will launch India's first-ever online post-graduate level programme on Construction Engineering.
The programme is a new addition to the unique eMasters degree programme being run by the institute and is focused on 'Sustainable Construction Practices and Project Management'.
The programme is designed to cater to the needs of the rapidly growing infrastructure and construction sectors in India.
This programme aims to equip practising civil engineers and architects with the knowledge and skills to manage projects effectively, using minimum resources and energy requirements, and with a minimum carbon footprint.

IGNOU Launches MA in Migration and Diaspora (11)

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) launched M.A. in Migration and Diaspora. As per the varsity, this is the first-of-its-kind to be introduced in India in the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode from January 2023 cycle.
The programme aims at developing knowledge and understanding for professionals who intend to work in the field of migration governance, diaspora engagement, human trafficking and labour flow.
The 80 credits, MA programme, is expected to open new avenues of employment to students in external and foreign affairs ministries, diplomatic missions, UN organisations, civil societies and non-government organisations.
The duration of the course is one year.

Kerala Govt. Announces Slew of Schemes and Initiatives to Support Women Entrepreneurs

The Kerala government launched significant initiatives to support female entrepreneurs in the state on International Women's Day, including a rise in the loan limit for women under the KSIDC's 'We-Mission Kerala' initiative from Rs. 25 lakh to Rs. 50 lakh at 5% interest.
Industries Minister P. Rajeeve made the announcement at the women entrepreneurs' meeting held by the Department of Industries and Commerce. He said that the decision would assist women entrepreneurs participating in the 'We-Mission Kerala' project of the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) in scaling up their businesses.

NCTE Launches Four-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme

The National Council for Teacher Education launched the four-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP). The programme was launched in 57 Teacher Education Institutions from the academic session 2023-24 across the country. The ITEP, as notified in 2021, is a four-year dual-major holistic undergraduate degree offering BA-BEd, BSc-BEd and BCom-BEd.
This course will prepare teachers for the four stages of the new school structure – foundational, preparatory, middle and secondary (5+3+3+4).
The programme is being offered in pilot mode initially in reputed central/state government universities/institutions. ITEP will be available for all students who choose teaching as a profession after Secondary, by choice.
This integrated course will benefit students since they will save one year by finishing the course in four years rather than the customary five years required by the present BEd plan.

Women Lead 4 out of World's top 5 Universities for the First Time

Men typically hold positions of authority in academia. But the scene is changing quickly as more women take on leadership roles. For the first time ever, women are set to hold the top positions at four out of the top five universities.
As per QS World University Rankings 2023, the top five universities of the world are Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge University, Stanford University, Oxford University, and Harvard University respectively.
Claudine Gay is set to become the first black woman to lead Harvard University, while Deborah Prentice will the helm at Cambridge University from July 2023. They will join the ranks of Irene Tracey, President of Oxford University, and MIT President Sally Kornbluth.
As per data from Times Higher Education's (THE) Global University Rankings 2023, women now lead almost a quarter of the world's top 200 universities, a 41% jump in five years. It states that 48 out of 200 universities have female presidents or vice chancellors, up from 43 the year before. And of these, 10% are run by women of colour.

New Health Programme 'Arogya Mahila' for Women in Telangana

Telangana Health Minister T. Harish Rao launched a new health programme for women, named 'Arogya Mahila', on the occasion of International Women's Day.
Under the programme, tests would be conducted for women every Tuesday initially in 100 health centres and medicines provided to them free of cost.
The women, if necessary, would be sent to 'referral hospitals' for further medical care.
