World Chocolate Day

  • World Chocolate Day is celebrated on July 7 every year to commemorate the invention of chocolate. This special day allows people around the world to indulge in their favourite treat without any guilt. The day also celebrates all kinds of goodies made from chocolate, including chocolate milk, hot chocolate, chocolate candy bar, chocolate cake, brownies, or anything covered in chocolate.
  • World Chocolate Day was first celebrated in the year 2009. However, some even believe that people started marking July 7 as International Chocolate Day because it was the day when chocolate was first introduced to Europe in 1550.

World Kiswahili Language Day

  • World Kiswahili Day is celebrated on the 7th of July every year following a declaration by UNESCO member states in this regard. Kiswahili is one of the most widely spoken languages in Africa and the most widely spoken in sub-Saharan Africa. Kiswahili is also the only African language that is an official language of the African Union.
  • High Commissioner of the United Republic of Tanzania to India, Anisa Kapufi Mbega said that Kiswahili language needs to be nurtured as it reflects African heritage.

World Forgiveness Day

  • Global Forgiveness Day is observed on July 7 every year to forgive and be forgiven in order to lead a happy and peaceful life. This day reminds us that forgiving people helps to wash away all painful sins and begin a new journey. Global Forgiveness Day is observed to celebrate goodwill among people, and it gives us a chance to set things right and make our relationships stronger.
  • In 1994, The Christian Embassy of Christ's Ambassadors(CECA) founded National Forgiveness Day in British Columbia. CECA hung a huge banner proclaiming it as National Forgiveness Day in downtown Victoria.
  • The day started gaining momentum and was later renamed 'Global Forgiveness Day'. With each passing year, Global Forgiveness Day caught the media attention and people started celebrating it to spread the message of forgiveness across the world.

World Zoonosis Day

  • World Zoonosis Day is held annually on July 6, worldwide, to raise awareness about the infectious diseases collectively termed zoonotic diseases. The day is celebrated in memory of Louis Pasteur, a French biologist who, on July 6, 1885, successfully administered the first-ever Rabies vaccine to a patient named Joseph Meister.
  • Zoonotic diseases originate in animals and can spread to humans. Infections occur through bites or contact with the infected animal's bodily fluids. Virus, bacteria, fungi, prions or parasites cause zoonosis.
  • The National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in India publishes an annual report called 'Zoonotic Diseases of Public Health Importance.' The document provides detailed information on several zoonotic diseases and safety precautions for laboratory personnel handling such diseases.

International Plastic Bag Free Day

  • The International Plastic Bag Free Day is held on July 3 around the world to spread awareness that a plastic bag free world is possible and that sound environmental alternatives to single use plastic bags are available. 2022 was the 13th edition of the celebrations. The day is an initiative by Bag Free World for the purpose of getting rid of the single-use of plastic bags around the world and promoting environmental conservation by encouraging us all to stay away from the use of plastic bags and instead look for more eco-friendly alternatives.
  • The first International Plastic Bag Free Day was observed on July 3, 2008, when Rezero, a member of Zero Waste Europe (ZWE), initiated it. The holiday was only observed in Catalonia in its inaugural year. However, a year later, ZWE introduced the International Plastic Bag Free Day to the European Union.

International Day of Cooperatives

  • International Day of Cooperatives is marked annually on the first Saturday of July. This year, in 2022 it was observed on 2 July to highlight the contributions of the cooperative movement. The aim of this celebration is to increase awareness about cooperatives by highlighting how the United Nations shares similar goals and objectives as the international cooperative movement.
  • The International Day of Cooperatives celebrates the formation of the International Co-operative Alliance and how cooperatives work towards making the world a better place.
  • The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) passed a resolution on 16 December 1992 to declare the first Saturday of July 1995 as the International Day of Cooperatives. The date was chosen as it marked the centenary of the International Cooperative Alliance's establishment. It is also called Coops Day.

  • World Sports Journalists Day is observed globally on 2nd July every year. The day aims to acknowledge the work of sports journalists and to encourage them to do better at their work. Sports journalists help millions of people in the world to receive information on various sports. These journalists have their associations to maintain their standards in their profession.
  • World Sports Journalist Day was established by the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) in 1994 to mark the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the organization. AIPS was formed on July 2 of 1924, during the Summer Olympics in Paris.

National Chartered Accountants Day

  • India celebrates Chartered Accountants Day every year on July 1 to commemorate the findings of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) by Parliament in 1949.
  • ICAI is deemed as the second biggest accounting organization in the world.
  • After Independence in the year 1948, an expert committee recommended that a separate autonomous association of accountants should be set up to regulate the profession of accountants in the country. The Indian government adhered to the recommendation and passed an act in the Parliament that gave birth to a statutory body named the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).

National Doctors' Day

  • Every year, National Doctor's Day is observed to recognise the role and contributions of doctors in people's lives and communities. Different countries observe this day on different dates, but in India, National Doctor's Day is celebrated on July 1 and is organised annually by the Indian Medical Association (IMA).
  • It was first celebrated in the year 1991 to pay honour to Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, who was also the Chief Minister of Bengal back then. This day was celebrated to acknowledge the extraordinary contributions to the medical fraternity made by Dr. BC Roy in his medical career.
  • Born on July 1, 1882, DR BC Roy was one of the prominent freedom fighters as well as a highly respected doctor who was also honoured with the Bharat Ratna in February 1961. Roy played a significant role in establishing medical institutions like Jadavpur T.B. Hospital, Chittaranjan Seva Sadan, Kamala Nehru Memorial Hospital, Victoria Institution (college), Chittaranjan Cancer Hospital, and the Chittaranjan Seva Sadan for women and children.
