International Dance Day

International Dance Day, also known as World Dance Day, is celebrated annually on April 29 worldwide. It serves as a special day of celebration to recognise and appreciate the value and significance of the art of Dance. It recognises dance as a powerful tool for stress relief, self-expression, the celebration of happiness, and a means of fostering connection and togetherness among people.
International Dance Day was established by the Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute (ITI), which is the main partner for performing arts of UNESCO, in 1982. The date of April 29th was chosen to commemorate the birthday of Jean Georges Noverre, a renowned innovator and scholar of dance who is credited with creating a modern ballet. Dance is celebrated on this day as one of the most dynamic and expressive forms of art, offering numerous benefits to individuals and communities.

International Astronomy Day

International Astronomy Day is observed on several days a year to observe celestial objects such as the moon and to share knowledge about astronomy with everyone. This is a day for astronomy enthusiasts to come together and share their knowledge and ideas with one another. The International Astronomy Day 2023 was observed on April 29.
Doug Berger started the celebration of International Astronomy Day in 1973. He was the then president of the Astronomical Association of Northern California. He intended to set up various telescopes in busy urban locations so that people could get a peek at the universe. It was an attempt to raise the general public's interest in astronomy. The event received a remarkable response and was later expanded to other countries.
International Astronomy Day is now celebrated in many countries worldwide. Many organizations associated with astronomy sponsor the event.

World Veterinary Day

World Day for Safety and Health at Work

World Day for Safety and Health at Work is observed every year on April 28 to promote safe, healthy, and decent work environments across the globe. The day serves as an occasion for individuals and organisations to promote a culture of safety and health in the workplace.
The World Day for Safety and Health at Work was first observed in 2003 after the International Labour Organization (ILO) declared it an annual international campaign to raise awareness of the importance of workplace safety and health. The day coincides with the anniversary of the 1971 adoption of the Occupational Safety and Health Convention by the ILO.
Every year, on World Safety and Health Day, the ILO announces a theme or topic for discussion. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness about safety and health issues in the workplace. In 2023, the theme for World Day for Safety and Health at Work was "A safe and healthy working environment as a fundamental principle and right at work".

US State Pennsylvania Recognizes Diwali as an Official State Holiday.

Senator Nikil Saval tweeted that the state of Pennsylvania in the United States has declared Diwali, the Hindu festival, as a national holiday. The legislation to make Diwali an official state holiday was introduced by State Senators Greg Rothman and Nikil Saval in February of this year.
The bill was passed unanimously by the Senate. According to My Twin Tiers, there are almost 200,000 South Asian residents in Pennsylvania, many of whom celebrate Diwali as a time for gathering and reflection. Senator Saval expressed gratitude to Senator Rothman for the opportunity to introduce this bill and welcomed all Pennsylvanians who celebrate Diwali.

Australia to host third in-person Quad Summit on May 24 in Sydney

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said that his country will host the third in-person Quad Summit on May 24 in Sydney. It will be attended by US President Joe Biden, Japanese PM Fumio Kishida, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He said, the Quad is committed to supporting an open, stable, and prosperous Indo-Pacific that is respectful of sovereignty and ensures security and growth for all. The Australian PM said that the Quad leaders will discuss how the grouping can work alongside partners and regional groupings including the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Pacific Islands Forum, to strengthen cooperation and shape the region.

International Girls in ICT Day 2023: 27th April.

International Girls in ICT Day is an annual event celebrated on the fourth Thursday of April to encourage and empower girls and young women to explore and pursue careers in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). This day helps to promote gender equality and diversity in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). It raises awareness about the gender gap in the tech industry and inspires women to consider careers in ICT.
This year, it is being observed on April 27 with the theme "Digital Skills for Life". Despite the significant role of ICT in our lives, a relatively small percentage of women globally opt for higher education in ICT-related fields, according to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
International Girls in ICT Day was declared by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) on April 8, 2011, to encourage women to pursue careers in information and communication technologies. The Day has been celebrated globally since its inception, with over 11,400 events held in 171 countries and more than 3,77,000 girls and young women participating.
Governments, ICT regulatory bodies, businesses, academic institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs support the event, which provides opportunities for girls to learn about ICT, meet role models and mentors, and explore various career paths in the industry.

World Intellectual Property Day 2023

World Intellectual Property Day is celebrated on April 26. The aim is to promote the importance of intellectual property (IP) rights and its role in encouraging innovation and creativity. The day was first established by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2000.
The theme for this year's World Intellectual Property Day 2023 is "Accelerating Innovation and Creativity: Women and IP". Intellectual property rights provide the legal framework for protecting the rights of innovators, inventors, and creators in this changing landscape.

International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace is being observed today

The International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace is being observed today. It seeks to reaffirm the UN Charter and its principles of resolving disputes among countries through peaceful means. The Day acknowledges the use of multilateral decision-making and diplomacy in achieving peaceful resolutions to conflicts among nations.
It was established on the 12th of December 2018 through resolution A/RES/73/127 and was first observed on the 24th of April 2019. Since then it is observed annually on the 24th of April.
Multilateralism is not simply a practice or a question of the number of actors involved. It involves adherence to a common political project based on the respect of a shared system of norms and values. In particular, multilateralism is based on founding principles such as consultation, inclusion, and solidarity. Its operation is determined by collectively developed rules that ensure sustainable and effective cooperation. In particular, they guarantee all actors the same rights and obligations by applying themselves continuously (and not on a case-by-case basis, depending on the issue handled). Multilateralism is, therefore, both a method of cooperation and a form of organization of the international system.

World Malaria Day: India registers over 85 per cent decline in malaria cases from 2015 to 2022

World Malaria Day is being observed on 25th of April . It is an international observance commemorated every year on 25th of April to recognise global efforts to control malaria. It is an occasion to highlight the need for continued investment and sustained political commitment for malaria prevention and control. World Malaria Day was instituted by WHO Member States during the World Health Assembly of 2007. This year the theme is - Time to deliver zero malaria: invest, innovate, implement. Malaria is a disease caused by parasites that are transmitted to people through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. It is preventable and curable. Malaria symptoms include high fever,chills, headache and other flu like symptoms.

World Immunization Week 2023 observed on 24th to 30th April.

World Immunization Week, celebrated in the last week of April, aims to highlight the collective action needed to protect people from vaccine-preventable diseases. The aim of this week is to increase awareness around the benefits of immunization and also to encourage people to get vaccinated. This year the day is observed from April 24th to April 30th and is an important effort to help prevent the spread of deadly diseases around the world. The theme for this year's World Immunization Week is "The Big Catch-Up" and aims to emphasize the need for countries to accelerate their progress towards ensuring that everyone, particularly children are protected from preventable diseases
