Hinduja Group Patriarch Srichand P. Hinduja Passes Away
Hinduja family patriarch Srichand P. Hinduja passed away at the age of 87. S. P., as he was popularly known, was the eldest of four brothers who set up a global, diversified conglomerate with interests in banking, automobiles, and chemicals.
S.P. joined his family business after completing his education in early 50s.
Led by his vision and leadership, S. P. along with his brothers, Gopichand, Prakash and Ashok Hinduja, conceived and strategized the diversification and expansion of Hinduja Group.
S. P., a leading Non-Resident Indian (NRI) businessman and head of Hinduja Group, conceived the vision of IndusInd Bank - the first of the new-generation private banks in India - and through collective contributions from the NRI community towards India's economic and social development, brought the Bank into being.

Robert Lucas, Winner of the 1995 Nobel Prize in Economics, Passes Away
Robert Lucas, who won the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1995 for his work on rational expectations and the efficacy of government intervention in the economy, died at the age of 85 years.
Born in 1937 in Yakima, Washington, Lucas received a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Chicago in 1959. He went to the University of California, Berkeley but returned to Chicago for financial reasons. In 1964, he earned his PhD in economics.
Lucas won the Nobel Prize for research on how expectations impact the decisions of consumers as well as businesses. In 1976, he came up with the 'Lucas critique' where he argued that policymakers cannot presume that their actions will yield the expected results. On the other hand, they must keep in mind how their actions will impact the expectations of people.

Alia Bhatt is First Indian Global Ambassador of Gucci
Gucci, the luxury fashion brand from Italy, appointed Alia Bhatt as its first global ambassador from India. She made her debut as the brand's newest global ambassador at the Gucci Cruise 2024 show in Seoul on May 16. This appointment is an important moment for both the brand and the Indian fashion industry, especially since it comes after Bhatt's Met Gala debut.

Veteran Corporate Lawyer Rajiv Luthra Passes Away
Rajiv Luthra, veteran corporate lawyer and founder of the law firm Luthra and Luthra, died at the age of 67.
A first-generation lawyer, Rajiv Luthra set up the law firm Luthra and Luthra in 1989. The firm burnished its reputation by pioneering taxation and corporate law in India.
Rajiv Luthra himself specialised in public-private partnerships and project finance. He led various corporate mergers and acquisitions, Coca-Cola-Parle being one of the most prominent. He was involved in the $4 billion Sun Pharma-Ranbaxy merger. He also advised the government on the Air India-Indian Airlines merger.
The government had also appointed him to the Advisory Board of the Competition Commission of India (CCI) to help frame the Competition Act, 2002.
Former AIFF Vice-president Khaleel Passes Away
Former All India Football Federation (AIFF) Vice-President A. R. Khaleel passed away. He was 91. Khaleel, who had served as the president of the Karnataka State Football Association (KSFA) for 28 years, had also served as the AIFF treasurer and executive committee member. On occasion, Khaleel was a member of Asian Football Confederation Standing Committees.
A President of the KSFA for 28 years till 2018, Khaleel had worked for the game in various capacities. He was a footballer, who ran Jawahar Union FC, one of Bengaluru's traditional clubs, was an administrator par excellence, and served Karnataka football as an office bearer for many years. He also donned managerial roles for the Indian National Teams in various age groups.
Renowned Bengali author Samaresh Majumdar died. He was 79.
Born on March 10, 1944, novelist Majumdar is best known for his 'Animesh' series. He was first published in the year 1967- a novel named 'Dour' (Run). One of his works was even was adapted into the 2013 film 'Arjun-Kalimpong E Sitaharan'.
Majumdar is also known for 'Uttoradhikar', 'Kaalpurush', 'Satkahan', and 'Adventures of Detective Arjun'.
The writer-poet has innumerable accolades under his belt, including Sahitya Akademi Award which he won for 'Kalbela' in 1984.
Apart from this, was conferred the Anand Award and Bankim Award. In 2018, the West Bengal government honoured him with the 'Banga Bibhushan' award.
