India Tests K-4 Missile from INS Arighaat

  • India achieved a significant milestone by successfully testing the K-4 nuclear-capable ballistic missile with a range of 3,500 km from the nuclear-powered submarine INS Arighaat in the Bay of Bengal. This test strengthened India's nuclear deterrence and placed the nation among the select few capable of launching nuclear missiles from land, air, and sea.

India-Singapore Bilateral Exercise Agni Warrior 2024

  • The bilateral military exercise "Agni Warrior 2024" between India and Singapore took place at the Devlali Field Firing Ranges in Maharashtra from November 28 to November 30. Organised as part of professional military collaboration, the exercise aimed to strengthen interactions between the artillery units of both nations. The exercise included the exchange of best practices and advanced techniques between the Indian Army and Singapore Armed Forces, aimed to deepen military cooperation and operational understanding.
  • Another interesting component that the exercise saw was providing a platform for cultural exchanges, thereby strengthening the bond between the two nations. The exercise came a month after Ng Eng Hen, Singapore's Minister of Defence, visited India to co-chair the sixth India-Singapore Defence Ministers' Dialogue in New Delhi, with his Indian counterpart Rajnath Singh.

Army Chief Presents President's Colours to Four Mechanised Infantry Battalions

  • Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi presented the prestigious President's Colours to four battalions of the Mechanised Infantry at a grand ceremony held at the Mechanised Infantry Centre and School (MICS) in Ahilyanagar, (formerly known as Ahmednagar) Maharashtra.
  • The 26th and 27th Battalions of the Mechanised Infantry Regiment and the 20th and 22nd Battalions of the Brigade of the Guards received the Colours. This marked a significant achievement for these units, representing the youngest battalions of the arm.
  • The award of President's Colours is a symbol of pride and honour, granted to units that have shown exceptional courage, discipline, and dedication. It reflects the battalions' commitment to upholding the highest standards of the Indian Army, connecting the past and present traditions of military excellence.

Army Launches 'Eklavya' Online Digital Platform for Officers' Training

  • Gen Upendra Dwivedi, the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), launched an innovative online learning platform for the Indian Army, named 'Eklavya.' This initiative is part of the Indian Army's ambitious agenda as it moves into what the COAS branded the 'Decade of Transformation.' The platform also coincides with the Army's central theme for 2024, which is designated as the 'Year of Technology Absorption.'
  • The Eklavya platform has been meticulously developed under the auspices of the Headquarters Army Training Command, with backing from the Army War College. Notably, the software was created at zero cost in collaboration with the Bhaskaracharya National Institute of Space Applications and Geoinformatics (BISAG-N) located in Gandhinagar, with additional support from the Directorate General of Information Systems. This collaborative effort underscores the Army's commitment to leveraging technological advancements for enhanced training and development.
  • Eklavya has been seamlessly integrated into the Army Data Network and boasts a scalable architecture. This feature allows the Headquarters Army Training Command to integrate numerous training establishments, thereby accommodating a wide range of courses. In an encouraging development, student officers are now allowed to register for multiple courses simultaneously. Currently, the platform hosts a total of 96 courses across 17 Category 'A' Training Establishments within the Indian Army.

  • IIT Kanpur introduced a groundbreaking innovation in stealth technology with its Analaksya Metamaterial Surface Cloaking System (MSCS). This cutting-edge system is designed to make objects almost invisible to radar, offering significant advancements in defence and national security.
  • Developed by a team of researchers and students from IIT Kanpur, the Analaksya MSCS is a textile-based broadband metamaterial microwave absorber.
  • Its unique capability lies in its ability to absorb radar waves across a wide spectrum, rendering Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imaging ineffective.

Scientist Jaiteerth Joshi Takes Charge as New Chief of BrahMos Aerospace

  • Jaiteerth Raghavendra Joshi was appointed as the new Chief of BrahMos Aerospace, the organisation behind the world's most potent supersonic cruise missile system. With a distinguished career spanning over three decades, Joshi has made significant contributions to missile technology, non-destructive testing (NDT), and the professional skill development of industry experts.
  • An alumnus of Osmania University, where he earned his BTech in Mechanical Engineering, Joshi also holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from NIT Warangal.
  • His extensive experience includes key contributions to India's missile programs, particularly the Prithvi and Agni missile systems. As Deputy Project Director for the Long Range Surface to Air Missile (LRSAM) program, he played a pivotal role in the development of mission-critical technologies.

Coast Guard to Conduct 'SAREX 24' in Kochi from Nov 27-30 under NMSAR Board

  • The Indian Cast Guard is conducting National Maritime Search and Rescue Exercise & Workshop (SAREX-24) under the aegis of NMSAR Board at Kochi from November 27 to 30.
  • This workshop is being conducted with imperatives to validate the National M-SAR construct through 'all-inclusive' and 'collaborative' approach.
  • Taking cognizance of the vast 4.6 Million Sq Km of Indian Search and Rescue Region (ISRR) bestowed to India, Indian Cast Guard has been a proponent of cooperative engagements not only with the resource agencies but also with littorals and friendly foreign countries.
  • Response operation to large scale contingencies at sea, termed as 'Mass Rescue Operation' (MRO) is the essence of 11th edition of SAREX-24.
  • The theme of the exercise is "Enhancing Search and Rescue Capabilities through Regional Collaboration".

Army's Kharga Corps Demonstrates Combat Readiness with Integrated Field Firing Exercise

  • The Kharga Corps of the Indian Army successfully conducted a two-day integrated field firing exercise, 'Kharga Shakti', at the Mahajan Field Firing Range. This comprehensive exercise was aimed at testing and validating the effectiveness of combined arms operations in a simulated battlefield environment.
  • Lieutenant General Rajesh Pushkar, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Kharga Corps reviewed the 'Kharga Shakti' exercise at the firing range in Rajasthan.
  • The troops demonstrated their combat readiness through live firing drills, tactical movements and air support missions, incorporating cutting-edge technology such as swarm drones, loiter munition systems, quadcopters and logistic drones.
