Bharat Dynamics Signs contract with Indian Army for supply of Konkurs Anti-tank Missiles

Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) and the Indian Army signed a contract worth Rs. 3,131.82 crore for the manufacture and supply of Konkurs-M anti-tank guided missiles.
The contract, which was signed in New Delhi, will be executed in three years.
Bharat Dynamics has augmented its manufacturing capacity to meet the domestic as well as overseas demand for Konkurs-M. As a part of its global outreach, BDL is also offering Man-Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missiles, Nag, Milan-2T, and Amogha, in addition to Konkurs M, for export.
Konkurs-M is a second generation, mechanised infantry anti-tank guided missile, to destroy armoured vehicles equipped with explosive reactive armour. The missile can be launched either from the BMP-II tank or from a ground launcher. It has a range between 75 to 4000 metres.

India Successfully Flight-tests Marine Version of Rafale for INS Vikrant

The marine version of the French-made Rafale fighter jet was successfully flight-tested at a shore-based facility in Goa where conditions similar to that on the indigenously-developed aircraft carrier INS Vikrant were simulated.
The Rafale-M is pitted against the US-made Super Hornet -- both of which are being evaluated for a possible purchase by the Indian Navy for deployment on the 44,000-tonne INS Vikrant that is undergoing trials in the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal for likely commissioning in August.

Lt Gen GAV Reddy is New Defence Intelligence Agency Head

Lieutenant General GAV Reddy was appointed as the new head of the Defence Intelligence Agency. General Reddy succeeded Lt Gen KJS Dhillon. Lieutenant General KJS Dhillon retired after serving in various strategic positions during his 39-year career in the Indian Army.
The Director-General of the Defence Intelligence Agency is the head of the organisation and is among the principal advisors on intelligence to the Minister of Defence and the Chief of Defence Staff. The post of the director general is held on a rotation basis between the three Armed services. The first Director-General of the DIA was Lt Gen Kamal Davar, former director-general of the Indian Army's Mechanised Forces.

Lt Gen Pande Takes Charge as Army Vice Chief

The Indian Army got a new Vice Chief, besides new Northern Army Command and Eastern Command chiefs.
Lt Gen Manoj Pande, Eastern Army Commander, moved to the Army Headquarters as the new Vice Chief of the Army.
Lt Gen YK Joshi, the Northern Army Commander and one of the senior-most generals after the Army Chief, superannuated. Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi took over as the new Northern Army Commander.
Lieutenant General R. P. Kalita was appointed as the new Eastern Army Command chief in Kolkata.
Lt Gen Joshi, who retired, is one of heroes of the Kargil conflict. Then a Lt Col, he was commanding the 13 battalion of the J&K Rifles. The battalion captured Point 5140, that is at a height of 16,863 ft and the highest occupied point on the Tololing ridge facing Gilgit Baltistan in Pakistan.

North Korea Tests Long-range Missile, Biggest since 2017

North Korea fired its most powerful missile since President Joe Biden took office, as it revives its old playbook in brinkmanship to wrest concessions from Washington and neighbours amid a prolonged stalemate in diplomacy.
As per Japanese and South Korean militaries, the missile was launched on a lofted trajectory, apparently to avoid the territorial spaces of neighbours, and reached a maximum altitude of 2,000 km and travelled 800 km before landing in the sea.
The flight details suggest the North tested its longest-range ballistic missile since 2017, when it twice flew intermediate-range ballistic missiles over Japan and, separately, three intercontinental ballistic missiles that demonstrated the potential to reach deep into the American homeland.

Indian Armed Force Select 'Saab' for Supply of Anti-Armour Weapon

Swedish defence company 'Saab' was selected by the Indian Armed Force through a competitive programme for the supply of single-shot anti-armour weapon AT4. AT4 will be used by the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force. The order includes the AT4CS AST, which can be fired from confined spaces such as from inside buildings, bunkers and other urban environments. Carl-Gustaf system of Saab is being already used by the Indian Armed Forces.
The weapon can be fired with a range of projectiles, such as high-explosive anti-tank rounds, anti-structure tandem-warheads, and high explosive rounds. It can penetrate more than 17.5 inches (44 centimetres) of armour.
The AT4 is equipped with an optical night sight for missions in low-light environments and has a minimum arming distance of 10 meters (32.8 feet), making it more accurate when hitting closer targets.

HAL-made MK III Aircraft Inducted at INS Utkrosh

The Andaman and Nicobar Command inducted indigenously developed advanced light helicopter MK III at Indian naval station Utkrosh in Port Blair. "The induction marks a continuing increase in the capabilities of the Andaman and Nicobar Command in the past two decades of its raising as India's only joint theatre command.
The MK III helicopter is manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and represents a tremendous leap towards self-reliance in the field of military aircraft, in line with the government's push towards 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

India's First Woman Rafale Fighter Jet Pilot Part of IAF Tableau

The country's first woman Rafale fighter jet pilot Shivangi Singh was part of the Indian Air Force tableau at the Republic Day parade 2022. She is only the second woman fighter jet pilot to be part of the IAF tableau. Last year, Flight Lieutenant Bhawna Kanth became the first female fighter jet pilot to be part of the IAF tableau.
Singh, who is from Varanasi, joined the IAF in 2017 and was commissioned in the IAF's second batch of women fighter pilots. She had been flying MiG- 21 Bison aircraft before flying the Rafale.
She is part of the IAF's Golden Arrows squadron based out of Ambala in Punjab.
The IAF tableau was based on the theme -- 'Indian Air Force transforming for the future'. Scaled down models of Rafale fighter jet, indigenously developed light combat helicopter (LCH) and 3D surveillance radar Aslesha MK-1 were part of the float.

Indian Navy Conducts 20-day Joint Maritime Exercise at Arabian Sea

The Indian Navy conducted a 20-day joint maritime exercise Paschim Lehar at the Arabian Sea to validate operational plans of the Western Naval Command and enhance inter-service synergy among the Navy, Air Force, Army and Coast Guard.
The intra-theatre exercise included mobilisation and participation of over 40 ships and submarines of the Indian Navy.
Additionally, the IAF (Indian Air Force) deployed SU 30 MKI and Jaguar maritime strike aircraft, flight refuelling aircraft and airborne warning and control system (AWAC), alongside the Indian Navy's maritime reconnaissance aircraft P8i, Dorniers, IL-38SD, unmanned aerial systems and MiG-29K strike aircraft.
Various elements of the Indian Army including air defence batteries were also mobilised for the exercise. After a long gap, many OPVs (offshore patrol vessels), FPVs (fast patrol vessels) and air cushion vessels of the Coast Guard also participated in the exercise.
