Helicopter Unit Inducted at Air Force Station Thanjavur

One Helicopter Unit was inducted at Air Force Station Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu, a move that will ensure availability of sufficient resources with the Southern Air Command's headquarters to enhance operational capabilities as well as meet peacetime tasks.
The Southern Air Command (SAC) is based in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
SAC was established in July 1984 in response to certain geopolitical developments to ensure effective command and control of IAF assets and facilitate quick deployment of combat forces in the event of threats developing in the Indian Ocean Region.

IIT Kharagpur, Indian Navy Join Forces to Drive Innovation through Research Partnership

Indian Navy and Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Naval Headquarters, New Delhi, symbolising their commitment to promote technology development, innovative solutions and joint R&D. Rear Admiral K. Srinivas, Asst. Chief of Materiel (Dockyard & Refit) at Naval Headquarters and Prof. (Ms) Rintu Banerjee, Dean (R&D) of IIT Kharagpur signed in presence of Prof. Virendra Kumar Tiwari, Director of IIT Kharagpur.
The strategic collaboration focuses on joint research and development initiatives involving teams from Indian Navy and IIT Kharagpur. The MoU will be co-ordinated by INS Shivaji, Lonavala.
This alignment signifies a move towards a symbolic relationship between the Academia and the Military, fostering an environment conducive to innovation and knowledge exchange.

Indian Army's New Tech Unit STEAG

The Indian Army set up a specialised technology unit called Signals Technology Evaluation and Adaptation Group (STEAG) to research and evaluate next-generation communication technologies.
STEAG will focus on studying and adapting technologies like: Artificial Intelligence, 5G and 6G networks, Machine Learning and Quantum Technologies.
The aim is to develop advanced communication capabilities for defence applications and future warfare.
STEAG will operate under the Corps of Signals, which handles military communications.
STEAG will be a premier organization to harness niche technology, identify suitable use-cases for defence, and foster collaboration with academia and industry.

Guyana Inks Deal to Purchase Indian-Made Dornier Aircraft

The Indian defence industry is expanding its reach to the Caribbean region. The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) inked a deal to purchase two aircraft from India with a loan of $23.27 million from the Export-Import Bank of India.
Guyana will acquire two Dornier 228 aircraft made by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) of India.
An agreement was signed between the Guyanese Finance Minister and the Deputy GM of EXIM Bank.
The HAL Dornier 228 aircraft are ideal for Short Take-Off and Landing (STOL), suitable for Guyana's terrain.
These planes will be used by Guyana for: Maritime patrols, resupplying military bases and troop movement to interior locations.
This is the first-ever defence loan that India has provided to any Caribbean country.
Guyana, which has a large Indian diaspora, also plans to purchase patrol vehicles, radars, and armoured vehicles from India.

Indo-US Naval Exercise Tiger Triumph - 24 Begins

Indian Navy Ships with integral helicopters and landing crafts embarked Indian Navy aircraft. Indian Army personnel and vehicles and Indian Air Force aircraft and helicopters along with the Rapid Action Medical Team (RAMT) would be participating in the exercise.
In consonance with the established partnership between India and the US, a bilateral tri-Service Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) Exercise between both countries, Tiger Triumph-24, is scheduled on the Eastern Seaboard from 18 to 31 Mar 24.
The US would be represented by US Navy Ships with embarked troops of the US Marine Corps and US Army. The exercise is aimed at developing interoperability for conducting HADR operations and refine Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to enable rapid and smooth coordination between forces of both countries.

Indian Army Contingent Departs for Seychelles for Joint Military Exercise 'Lamitiye-2024'

An Indian Army contingent departed for Seychelles in March to participate in the 10th edition of Joint Military Exercise 'LAMITIYE-2024', the Ministry of Defence said in a statement.
The Joint Exercise between the Indian Army and Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF) will be conducted at Seychelles from March 18 to 27.
'LAMITIYE' meaning 'Friendship' in the Creole language is a biennial training event and has been conducted in the Seychelles since 2001. 45 personnel each from the GORKHA RIFLES of the Indian Army and Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF) will participate in the exercise.
"The aim of the exercise is to enhance interoperability in sub-conventional operations in a semi-urban environment under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter on Peacekeeping Operations. The exercise will enhance cooperation and interoperability between both sides during peacekeeping operations. The exercise will also build and promote bilateral military relations in addition to exchanging skills, experiences and good practices between both armies," the statement read.
Both sides will jointly train, plan and execute a series of well-developed tactical drills for the neutralisation of likely threats that may be encountered in a semi-urban environment, while exploiting and showcasing new-generation equipment and technology.
The 10-day joint exercise will include field training exercises, combat discussions, lectures and demonstrations, which culminate in two days of validation exercises.

MoD Signs Contract with HAL for Mid Life Upgrade of 25 Dornier Aircraft of Indian Navy

The Ministry of Defence signed a contract with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for Mid Life Upgrade (MLU) of 25 Dornier Aircraft along with associated equipment for the Indian Navy at a cost of Rs. 2,890 crore.
The MLU for Dornier Aircraft includes an upgrade to incorporate state-of-the-art avionics systems and primary role sensors.
As per the defence ministry, the project will be implemented within six and half years.
The upgrade would significantly enhance the operational capability of the Dornier aircraft of the Indian Navy to perform primary roles of maritime surveillance, coastal surveillance, electronic intelligence and development of maritime domain awareness.

Rajnath Singh Inaugurates India Navy's First Independent Headquarters 'Nausena Bhawan' in Delhi

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the 'Nausena Bhawan', the new state-of-the-art headquarters of the Indian Navy at the Delhi Cantonment which is equipped with modern facilities and cutting-edge technologies. It marks a significant milestone for the Navy as it has established its first independent headquarters in Delhi.
Previously, the Navy operated from 13 different locations, necessitating a consolidated and purpose-built facility such as the 'Nausena Bhawan'.
